Just wait until they reach the 52 week limit, they'll be re-entering much higher in the years to come I bet.

(Older songs are eligible to return to the Hot 100 if ranking in the top 50 and are gaining in multiple metrics with a significant reason for their resurgences; a few holiday chestnuts re-enter each year.) And who gets to decide what a "significant reason" is? I'd say that being the 50th most popular song of the week is a "significant reason" to be charting at #50. These recurrent rules and all their contingencies are terrible.

for its sales and its streams, mic drops seems a bit high… anyone else think so? or did a formula change happen without me noticing it? Welp. #28 this week. I was right a bit

I decided to do some digging around the Hot genre charts, Recurrent Songs and made the most pessimistic estimates (i.e. the lowest position possible) the recurrent songs could place, and this is how it turned out: 51 When It Rains It Pours 52 Rubbin' Off the Paint 53 Let Me Go 54 Ric Flair Dip 55 XO TOUR Llif3 56 All I Want for Christmas is You 57 What Ifs 58 Body Like a Back Road 59 Crew 60 Walk on Water 61 Location 62 Something Just Like This 63 Wild Thoughts 64 Roll in Peace 65 Unforgettable (Rhett) 66 Sky Walker 67 Light it Up 68 Love So Soft 69 Like I Loved You 70 I'll Name the Dogs 71 Lemon 72 Wanted You 73 Ghostface Killers 74 Candy Paint 75 Good Old Days 76 Dusk Till Dawn 77 Betrayed 78 Lights Down Low 79 The Race 80 Butterfly Effect 81 Love Galore 82 Say You Won't Let Go 83 Redbone 84 In Case You Didn't Know 85 Small Town Boy 86 Round Here Buzz 87 Yours 88 Mayores 89 Losing Sleep 90 Ask Me How I Know 91 I Could Use a Love Song 92 Fix a Drink 93 Awful Things 94 F Love 95 Relationship 96 Transportin' 97 Jocelyn Flores 98 Every Little Thing 99 You Broke Up With Me 100 End Game Too Much to Ask (This Re-Entry Run Wouldn't Have Happened) Sauce it Up Pick it Up (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Home (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Go Flex When We (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Glorious (This Re-Entry Run Wouldn't Have Happened) Questions Beautiful Trauma (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) No Smoke (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Broken Halos (This Re-Entry Run Wouldn't Have Happened) The Rest of Our Life (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Mask Off Drowning Rolex Bad And Boujee I'm The One Closer Slippery Stay Faking It (Wouldn't Have Ever Made Hot 100) Keep in mind that the stuff from Mask Off-Stay might've booted more songs off the Hot 100 in reality, it's just that I can only anchor them from Stay being ahead of Faking It and Small Town Boy being ahead of Round Here Buzz.

"Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" pushes to a new No. 3 Hot 100 high, from No. 5, and becomes his third No. 1 on Digital Song Sales (69,000, down 1 percent)."
Should've been 59k. Perfect sold 60k last week.

Rooting for "All I Want for Christmas Is You" to hit the top 10 this year. It's been doing well on Spotify which is a good sign

Very interesting list though. I've always wondered just how much of the 51-100 range would consist of long-lasting songs if the recurrent rules weren't around. Can you explain what that second list of songs is. First it appears to be a list of songs that wouldn't have entered without the recurrent rules. Then there's Mask Off and Bad and Boujee, which is confusing.

Just wait until they reach the 52 week limit, they'll be re-entering much higher in the years to come I bet. I hadn't thought about how this rule would affect holiday songs once they hit that marker. "AIWFCIY" has to be over halfway there?

A few other jumps into the top 40 this week: NF's "Let You Down" moved 48-29 and Marshmello & Khalid's "Silence" finally moved 43-36 in its 16th week. Also, Charlie Puth's "How Long" moved 34-32 and "Gummo" dropped (though I don't know by how much). "End Game" only moved 86-83.

"AIWFCIY" has to be over halfway there? It's at 20 cumulative weeks this week. Remember, it didn't start charting in the top 40 of the Hot 100 until 2012, when the recurrent rule for older songs was removed (following Whitney's death in February).

^In theory, it should be able to get 4 to 5 weeks each year over the next few years, given how it has continued to be a good digital seller and now has gotten some help from streaming, so it would have to deal with the 52 week rule in about 6 to 7 years.

You say that, but would you actually like the chart if recurrency was gone? I decided to do some digging around the Hot genre charts, Recurrent Songs and made the most pessimistic estimates (i.e. the lowest position possible) the recurrent songs could place, and this is how it turned out: Probably the chart that's most similar (not the same, given that radio doesn't count toward it and only audio streams count) without the recurrency rules (although it now has reduced streaming value after a song has charted for 9 weeks and its streams decreased and the maximum of 3 songs from each album) is the Official Charts Singles chart. There, Mr. Brightside has already charted for 193 weeks, not to mention All I Want for Christmas is You for 82 weeks. Not to mention that according to today's midweek update, the top 100 is expected to be bombarded with many holiday songs re-entering as well as 3 of them in the top 10.

RIP Praying it’s finally reaching the end of its run. I guess it won’t be making it repeat years after all.

Looks like Rockstar and Havana have peaked. Rockstar is down 8% and Havana 14%. I think it's safe to say Camila won't reach #1 now, her only chance was to outpeak Rockstar which isn't happening.

Havana tried it all from remix to discounts but it simply couldn't make it. Maybe it still has a small chance if she releases her album in January and the song is still doing good in airplay and rockstar has declined considerably but it's probably not gonna happen anymore. They should focus on the follow up single to maintain the momentum

Assuming BB doesn’t change the rules again, it would still chart for 2 or 3 weeks a year since it breaks the Top 25 - unless there’s some complete ban on 52+ week songs once they drop below 25 they can’t ever come back.

3 of the 5 songs to debut this week are in a different language: 2 Spanish and 1 Korean.
"It's Everyday Bro" re-enters and gets a second peak at #91. However, Billboard fails to credit Gucci Mane for the remix, which is clearly a mistake on their part.
Gummo takes a pretty big fall from #29 to #54. As we know, Gummo is a YouTube-heavy hit. I have to wonder whether that's another mistake from Billboard, and if we're going to see another big spike next week like we saw with Bank Account and Gucci Gang.

I wonder if "significant reason" also means that a short-lived viral video clip won't be enough to cause a re-entry anymore. (Like that one time Bon Jovi reappeared.) Or at least I hope so.
Also so happy for Dua Lipa!

Full Hot 100 out www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100Shape of Your rises to #26 on its 47th week, with the year end charts coming, the song is almost guaranteed of 52 weeks chart run Humble escapes recurrent status rising 49-47 The beginning of the end of their chart runs for Praying and What About Us. Both had respectable runs Look What You Made Me Do crashes 44-60. Will it even make it to 20 weeks? A The Voice contestant recording makes it to #99.
