1 3 4 5 16 21 23 33 34 68 Not bad I suppose. I don't like that "Jump" came dangerously close to top 10, and "What's Love Got To Do With It" is tremendously overrated at this point. Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Let The Music Play would have been my 1 and 2 and they are out back to back missing the top 10. You guys will see these 2 songs in a future rankdown that I will host soon. My personal favorite classic songs. Didn't you already use Let the Music Play for Favorite Female Songs Yea and GJWHF too. But I could use them again.

"Uptown Girl" would of been real high on my list.

the 4 of you need to get to an ENT specialist ASAP because there is something seriously wrong with your hearing In fact, Bananarama is a guilty pleasure but like others said, there were a lot of great songs in 84. I also liked Ace of Base's 1998 cover even though they didn't stray too much to the original version. Attachment Deleted

Most of these songs are on my own personal chart as well, so I can finally reveal some of the missing numbers in DOC()s #20. Hold Me Now - Thompson Twins DOC(9)One of the best New Romantic/New Wave ballads ever. I was charting Thompson Triplets since "Lies" came out, and kept on until that changed their name to Babble. #19. Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr. DOC(86)Not even at 8 years old did this silly song make my chart. It's a fun song. I'll give it that. #18. Footloose - Kenny Loggins DOC(40) I guess I revealed this one a bit sooner on my list. Seriously, catchy ,White boy ,dance Rock ,at it's best. #17. I'm So Excited - The Pointer Sisters DOC(115)Another fun song by the Pointer Sisters. My favorite ;to this date, is still, "He's So Shy" #16. Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper DOC(81)When it came to these and "Mickey", I think I preferred Toni Basil. The 80's were so much fun. #15. Let The Music Play - Shannon DOC(121)One of the earliest Miami Freestyle songs to hit the charts. Freestyle would become one of my favorite dance style genres when Stevie B, Noel, Cover Girls, and Johnny O hit the scene. #14. Jump - Van Halen DOC(2)Only two top 3 rankings for this rocker. I'm guessing Diamond Dave isn't for everybody? #13. Owner Of A Lonely Heart - Yes DOC(51)One of the best comeback hits for a band, ever. #12. Cruel Summer - Bananarama DOC(88)Bananarama were actually three hot babes who bought their clothes at the same place; Dexy's Midnight Runners, did, but they had some great summer music. Ilked their music, but I was much more into, Heart, Missing Persons, Vanity 6, Vixxen, and I think it's because they all wore leather and lace. #11. Karma Chameleon - Culture Club DOC(46)Who doesn't love Culture Club? When I was little I used to sing "Coma coma coma coma Comon Chameloen"

Gonna showcase a few of my own personal favorites from that year. 11--30. Most of these already appeared too. 11. Oh Sherrie - Steve Perry (1)12. Talking In Your Sleep - Romantics (1)13. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! I love this song so much, it got early chart action fro me. It would crossover into my 1985 charts , and end up at a very high position. 14. ? 15. The Reflex - Duran Duran (1)16. Modern Day Delilah - Van Stephenson (1) (B22)
A one hit wonder on Billboard Hot 100. I doubt many of you heard this one? I use to hear this one KLOS all the time and MTV played it all the time. The lyrics were based on that dangerous brand of woman that men obsessed over in those days. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3soJBmu_cFI17. I Want A New Drug - Huey Lewis and The News (3)18. Eyes Without A Face - Billy Idol (2)19. ? 20. (You Can Still) Rock In America - - Night Ranger (4) (B51)As you can see I was a huge Night Ranger fan. Still am too. This was the actual first single off "Midnight Madness"; which peaked at #51 on Billboard Hot 100. I love the fact that everyone on this band was a guitarist and one drummer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GZSFgnORlc21. Lick It Up - Kiss (3) (B66)Kiss is my favorite Hard Rock band. No questions about it. They are Guitar hooks heaven, and Paul Stanley has one of the strongest vocal tones I ever heard, and "Lick It Up" is one of my favorite songs from them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gcj34XixuYg22. When You Close Your Eyes - Night Ranger (4)23. Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell (1)24. Union Of The Snake - Duran Duran (2)25. Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart (2)26. Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung (2)27. Rock You Like A Hurricane - Scorpions (2) (B25)It's obvious, I was raised on MTV. This song has one of the fiercest Guitar hooks. Thanks to the older potheads on my block I got into Metal at a very young age. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQRprgbYdTw28. Looks That Kill - Mötley Crüe (3) (B54)I used to love the post-apocalyptic music videos Heavy metal bands would put out. This one and "Lick It Up" . I was already heavy into the Crüe, by the time "Shout at the Devil" came out. Believ it or not, this Metal favorite also charted on Billboard Hot 100. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbJcUcELlBQ29. The Warrior - Scandal (4)30. Strip - Adam Ant (4) (B42)We haven't gotten around to ranking any Adam and The Ants songs yet, but rest assured I will be one of the highest rankers when "Goody Two Shoes" rolls around. "Strip" was one of my favorite New wave songs back then. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z7fV-wB2z8

Ughh...I lost so many songs in the top 20, but I'm glad that these songs in bold made it into top 10. I personally don't care for Thriller to be in the top 10. I think it's terribly his most overrated song. I'm just not into spooky, horror theme songs.
"Borderline" - Madonna
"Dancing In The Dark" - Bruce Springsteen
"Drive" - The Cars
"Here Comes The Rain Again" - Eurythmics
"Let's Go Crazy" - Prince & The Revolution
"Love Is A Battlefield" - Pat Benetar
"Thriller" - Michael Jackson
"Time After Time" - Cyndi Lauper
"What's Love Got To Do With It" - Tina Turner
"When Doves Cry" - Prince

20. Hold Me Now (7): Awwww.... I was hoping this could make it to top 10. My favorite from Thompson Twins, for sure, and I song that has remained in my playlist for over 10 years. I love the lush and melancholic instrumentation, from the very first seconds, the harmonies throughout the song but specially during the last minute, the musical bridge, etc. 19. Ghostbusters (59): This was a nice song that reached #1 in my personal chart, but didn't age thaaat well. Not a bad song, and still fun (nice video with so many cameos, too), but just not as good as many songs in this RD. This one really overstayed. Now with this one gone, I finally cleared my bottom half! 18. Footloose (34): Despite also being a soundtrack song, this one was less gimmicky and had more pure pop-rock qualities for a top 40. I do have to say that I'm Free was more of a favorite of mine from Kenny this year, and another chart-topper from him in my personal chart. 17. I'm So Excited (42): Another good one from PS, which I may have slightly under-ranked. Love the last minute with the harmonies! The nice piano in the bridge, and the overall high energy. I always saw this as a female version of I'm Still Standing, and a great song for road trips! (I wish the follow-up, Dare Me, had been a bigger hit...) (PS: What's up with these single covers?! There's one sistah that doesn't look excited at.all) 16. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (20): This debut was soooo good!! I remember buying the 45 RPM, watching and loving the video, and trying to memorize the lyrics :) This was the song that started my first big fandom, as a stan of Cyndi Lauper over any other female artist. I mean, I liked Olivia Newton-John, but I was more conscious of this standom. This ended up becoming the best debut era ever in my personal chart, with 5 chart-toppers: GJWHF, Time After Time, She Bop, All Thought the Night (all of these year-end top 15s), and When You Were Mine. Plus, Money Changes Everything and Goonies were top 5s. HUGE era! 15. Let The Music Play (30): As I shared in other RDs, I've LOVED this song, as well as Give Me Tonight. Both were 1980s classics back home as well. I'm very happy to see it in the top 20, even if I ranked it a bit lower, as I just had a few songs I liked just a bit more. By the way, back home we called this genre "Break music" or "Breakdance" music. Both Shannon's songs, Breakdance, Breakin, I Feel For You, Street Dance, Beat Street Strut, Rock It. 14. Jump (32): Another classic from the 1980s. Strong rock-pop-ish song. I like the synths and guitar here. 13. Owner of a Lonely Heart (13): Awesome song that had a bit of pop, a bit of rock, a bit of prog. Quite the stylistic jam --and a P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!! 12. Cruel Summer (5): It was a favorite of this year for me, and with time I continued loving it. It's just a timeless song, to the point that Ace of Base, albeit doing a good job, just couldn't top this version. 11. Karma Chameleon (39): I liked this (bought the 45 RPM as well), but with time it just didn't hold up as well as other songs from this year. Still a bop. (Btw, in Latin America a Mexican singer, Yuri, made this song a bit more popular by recording a cover in Spanish... even though it wasn't really good )

I like "Thriller," but it's not even one of my 10 favorites of Michael Jackson's.
Overall, if there's any emotion I feel as we enter the top 10, it's amazement that my #1 is still alive.

So far I have left: 1-4, 6, 11, 12, 16, 19, 28. Not bad at all! And I'm even happy about my #28 :) A few other songs from 1984 that would've been in my top 100 personal ranking, and I haven't heard them being mentioned yet (I think?): - Elevator Boy (Laid Back): This song was VERY popular in 1984, and I re-charted it in 1985 and "took it to the top". LOVE IT! Definitely a top 20 of the year for me. - Holding Out for a Hero (Bonnie Tyler): My favorite off Footloose, and a 2-week personal chart-topper that I also ranked quite high in my decade and 1900s chart. Plus a favorite for road-trips since I started driving lol. This would've been in my top 5 of the year, for sure! - Desert Moon (Denise De Young): Great power ballad that was a big hit back home and in my personal chart - Torture (The Jacksons): My favorite from the Victory album and a personal chart-topper. One of my favorites actually from MJ in the 1980s... - Sexcrime (1984): A fan of this song ever since I heard it. Love the pulsating mysterious vibe of the song, Annie's voice, the dark pre-chorus that is followed by a bright chorus. A song that seems timeless, except maybe for the robotic voice lol. - The Lebanon (Human League): A medium-sized hit for that year, that I've liked more with time, especially appreciating the prominence of guitar sound for a HL song. It was in my first personal chart ever, so I still have good memories of this one :) - Music Time (Styx): Another high-energy pop-rock song that I liked a lot at that time. Plus, Styx was a band I liked as well. - Blue Jean (David Bowie): It was a top 5 in my personal chart, and a medium-size hit back home, but with time I've grown to like it much more - All Of You (Julio Iglesias & Diana Ross): A personal runner-up, and the last time that Diana Ross was this high in my personal chart. It's so smooth, sexy, buttery.. (Can't believe the video is not on YouTube!) - Middle of the Road (Pretenders): This song was quite big back home and it's my third favorite from Pretenders. - Dynamite (Jermaine Jackson): One of the biggest songs of that year back home, also a top 5 in my personal chart. - Mega Madness (Michael Sembello): Interestingly, a top 5 back home and in personal chart, likely motivated by the Gremlins movie.

Juanca The only song I knew from Laid Back was "White Horse", but that "Elevator Boy" you posted was mighty 80's. You can hear that same type of 80's production in the new Blue October song "I Hope You're Happy" I believe "Desert Moon" was a Billboard top 40 hit? I got into Styx songs later in life, but ended up loving "Best Of Times", "Babe" and "Too Much Time On My Hands" The Human League are one of my favorite New wave bands ever. The Lebanon" was huge on KROQ I also charted both "Blue Jean" and Middle Of The Road". Both ended right outside my Top 100. "Dynamite" was cool. Do you remember "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" with backround backups by DEVO? Here he performs it with DEVO. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ImnOLzVBc

The Top 2
I guess it is sort of fitting that these two songs end up as the Top 2 songs of the Billboard 1984 Rankdown...when they charted back in the summer of 1984 they battled each other on The Hot 100 for the top spot. Prince won that battle whilst keeping Bruce Springsteen from ever achieving a No. 1 (with help from Duran Duran's "The Reflex”)...and he does so again on this rankdown.
#2

Michael and Prince being right up there in the top 3 was expected. Bruce was not. Loooove seeing 'Here Comes The Rain Again' coming in as high as #4. I do love the original but I particularly like the Brothers In Rhythm remix:

Eurythmics Top 5! Awesome. Great Top 10. My top 3 finished 1-2-4, I can't complain. Thanks Unhinged, great work as always. Looking forward to 1985.

Pleasantly surprised that Springsteen made the top two. I thought it would be Prince and MJ, for sure, so seeing The Boss sneak in there is a lot of fun. And, of course, P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING straight at the top! Once again, another fine showing as host, Unhinged.

I definitely underranked When Doves Cry. Great winner! So did I, mainly because of fatigue. I like the song, but it gets played A LOT on Adult Contemporary and other 1980s-oriented radio stations, at least where I live. (And I can hear radio stations in two different markets.) Of course, it figures that I'd lose my #1 first of all the people whose #1's made it into the top 10. :(

#10. Drive - The Cars (DOC3) My favorite band of all times made the top 10. Why even complain? This song was originally gonna have a ;bossa nova, vibe to it. I'm glad they discarded that idea.
#9. Borderline - Madonna (DOC4) Easily one of my favorite Madonna songs. Terrific showing. She looked so attainable in that music.
#8. Love Is A Battlefield - Pat Benatar This one is alright. "Hearbreaker" , "Treat Me Right" , "You Better Run" were more my Benatar style.
#7. Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper (DOC22) An amazing Pop Ballad. Truly one of her best.
#6. What's Love Got To Do With It - Tina Turner (DOC45) Nice R&B ballad.
#5. Let's Go Crazy - Prince and the Revolution (DOC1985#8) I love Prince. He always had guitar in his songs.
#4. Here Comes The Rain Again - Eurythmics (DOC31) This is a good song. "Sweet Dreams...." is the one I love.
#3. Thriller - Michael Jackson (DOC2) As far as Michael Jackson songs go; this is one of my favorite too.
#2. Dancing In The Dark - Bruce Springsteen (DOC3) This is a good poprock song, but I don't see why it got this far on this list. Maybe it's because of that chick from "Scream" dancing on stage? "Glory Days" , Cover Me" and "I'm Going Down" blow it away.
#1. When Doves Cry- Prince (DOC2) I wish there were more rockers like Prince and Lenny Kravitz around. This is how you insert guitar into R&B pop songs. Today's artists have no excuse for not doing it.

I remember buying the 45 RPM, watching and loving the video, and trying to memorize the lyrics This was the song that started my first big fandom, as a stan of Cyndi Lauper over any other female artist. (Btw, in Latin America a Mexican singer, Yuri, made this song a bit more popular by recording a cover in Spanish... even though it wasn't really good ) Me too.. :'( :'(

Here he performs it with DEVO. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ImnOLzVBc Oh! I hadn’t heard that Blue October song! I’ve just previewed it and immediately downloaded it Laid Back’s last presence in my personal chart was with One Life, a top 20 in 1985: youtu.be/r_sugtrYNTcI hadn’t heard JJ’s song with DEVO. Quite interesting disco - new wave combo :) JJ’s last top 10 in my chart was the followup to Dynamite (peaked in 1985), a duet with Pia Zadora with a cool video: youtu.be/aahViYznVTQ
