#30. Eyes Without A Face - Billy Idol Billy Idol doing a Gorgeous New Wave ballad and hitting a perfect bulls eye!
#29. All Night Long (All Night) - Lionel Richie Very danceable R&B pop. Sometimes those back round noises got a little annoying , but not enough to ruin the song.
#28. Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) - Phil Collins P-P-P-PERFECT ranking, and my favorite Phil Collins ballad ever. This one is also in my personal top 100 of 1984.
#27. The Reflex - Duran Duran The fab five. Man ,do I love this band.
#26. Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell So you get M.J. to do your backup vocals and presto! Instant hit. Reminds me, of George Michael did backups on Deon Estus "Heaven Help Us". I also charted "Obscene Phone Caller"
#25. Self Control - Laura Branigan This, "Solitair" and "Gloria" were all great. man; she looked hot in the "Gloria" MV.
#24. That's All - Genesis When it came to genesis; I was more of an "ABACAB" man, but this one was decent enough.
#23. Missing You - John Waite Pleasantly surprised you all love one of my favorite songs of all time. He also wrote a few masterpieces with Bad English and The Babies.
#22. Holiday - Madonna The first Madonna song I ever heard. I had a mean crush on her back then. "Burning Up" was one of my favorite songs of her's
#21. Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart Got another P-P-P-PERFECT Ranking here. This song and my dad got me into sunglasses....and I never took them off again.

Strong looking Top 20. Counting Prince; we still have some guitar vibe music. Let's keep them in, as long as we can.

30. Eyes Without A Face (25): Booooo!!!! I'm shedding a tear with the nostalgia here. This was the chart-topper of the first personal ranking that I ever did, back in August 1984 :( Billy had such a presence, image, attitude, that I quickly became a fan. Plus, back home he got a huge "era". Dancing with Myself was a huge song in our Summer (ie January-April), then Eyes was another hit, then Rebel Yell and White Wedding, too, then to a lesser extent Flesh for Fantasy and Catch my Fall, and then Baby Talk and Mony Mony were two other big hits. That's another thing I loved in the mid-1980s: the HUGE eras! (by the way, I've just watched the video again with CC, and finally realized that the female chorus were singing Eyes Without A Face in French --I guess we always learn something new :x) 29. All Night Long (All Night) (33): And speaking of huge eras, Can't Slow Down was another exciting one, from All Night to Hello to Runnin' to Stuck to Penny. All Night brought lots of memories of our Summer, and the sound was perfect for that time of the year, with lots of Latin flavor! Still have fun when I listen to it :) 28. Against All Odds (17): One of my favorites from Phil. Subdued, tender, simple but effective production, and one of his most emotional performances. And yes, I love Mariah but I think she destroyed this song and robbed it from its simple but effective emotion and transformed into an unnecessary screamfest... 27. The Reflex (14): Initially I wasn't a huge fan of the WAAaaaAAAaaaa in the pre-chorus, even though this was already a big hit back home. With time I grew to like it and ended up becoming one of my DD favorites 26. Somebody's Watching Me (60): The instrumental is ACE, and of course MJ in vocals provide an extra oomph. By the way, back home this song was clearly presented as Rockwell & Michael Jackson. I clearly under-ranked this one a bit, especially because I missed adding points for its influence over time. I should’ve ranked in my top 40 (sorry!), as I especially appreciate the fact that I did like two ‘covers’ of this song in the next 2 decades: DJ Bobo’s Somebody Dance With Me, and Beatfreaks’ Somebody’s Watching Me. Interestingly, back home, Obscene Phone Caller and Knife had some minor rotation as follow-ups, but at the end of the decade some radio stations did some sort of revivals of 80s hits and all of a sudden Knife became BIG, like chart-topper big. 25. Self-Control (22): Good to see this managed top 25 here! My all-time favorite from Laura. A multi-week chart-topper back home and in my personal chart. Just a solid pop song, with its mysterious intro, followed by a rock-guitar sound, then a more subdued instrumentation with Laura’s seductive voice, a more melodic pre-chorus, and a pop-rock chorus full of attitude, and of course the male Oh-oh-OH, oh-OH-ohs that made this song a classic. I was puzzled when I learned that the follow-up The Lucky One (like a wild bird of prey, like a thief in the NIGHT…). barely reached top 20 –that one was another personal chart-topper!! 24. That’s All (54): Just like with Huey Lewis, this type of Genesis sound just wasn’t my cup of tea. My brother loved Illegal Alien, for example, but I hated it! Lol. I preferred Phil’s solo and Invisible Touch and Can’t Dance Genesis more. That’s All is likely my favorite of this type of Genesis songs, though. 23. Missing You (15): Big hit back home and personal chart-topper, I’ve never stopped liking it. Really like the crescendo in John’s vocal performance, especially after that solid bridge. Further, I appreciated Tina Turner’s cover of this as it brought a different, rockier vibe that didn’t destroy it. 22. Holiday (10): This is one of the few cases where a song I liked enough but didn’t care too much about back in 1984 ended up becoming one of my favorite 80s songs. And it happened progressively. To the point that this song re-entered my personal chart in 1991, with the new Immaculate Collection version, and as Holiday 1991 it reached #1. By the late-90s the original extended version had become one of my favorite dance songs of the 1900s 21. Sunglasses at Night (35): A personal top 10 in 1984, that I grew to like more with time. It’s been a perfect companion for road trips and a constant presence in my mp3 player/iPhone for 10 years.

Many of the songs in my 70s are there due to fatigue more than anything. In other words, I like them, but they receive heavy radio airplay on stations that play a lot of 1980s music. Not coincidentally, my 70s have the most #1 hits of any group of 10.
My prediction for the top 10
1. "Time After Time" - Cyndi Lauper 2. "Thriller" - Michael Jackson 3. "Let's Go Crazy" - Prince & The Revolution 4. "What's Love Got To Do With It" - Tina Turner 5. "When Doves Cry" - Prince 6. "Love Is A Battlefield" - Pat Benatar 7. "Drive" - The Cars 8. "Borderline" - Madonna 9. "Dancing In The Dark" - Bruce Springsteen 10. "Here Comes The Rain Again" - Eurythmics
P.S. to Doc Indie Party Rock: "Jump" is OK, but it's one of those songs that I'm kind of fatigued with, so it ended up in my 70s. I wish "I'll Wait" and "Panama" were part of this rankdown, because I love both of those songs. "I'll Wait" would be in my top 30 easily, and possibly my top 20. "Panama" would be in my top 10 easily, and possibly my top 5.

1 3 4 5 16 21 23 33 34 68 Not bad I suppose. I don't like that "Jump" came dangerously close to top 10, and "What's Love Got To Do With It" is tremendously overrated at this point. Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Let The Music Play would have been my 1 and 2 and they are out back to back missing the top 10. :( You guys will see these 2 songs in a future rankdown that I will host soon. My personal favorite classic songs. Didn't you already use both those songs for Favorite Female Songs
