What is this question referring to? The drops. I mean, I understand that they would have taken place anyway, but why are they so huge?

^ I don't think so actually. The number of chart weeks this year will stay the same, it's just that two of them will be dated during the same calendar week (next week, Jan 3rd and 6th). This will be made up for with the fact that the last chart date of the year will be the second to last Saturday in November, not the last Saturday.

I guess we'll see, but I don't see why they would change the chart date of the last chart week of a chart year from the last Saturday of November to second to last.

^ It wouldn't be changing the date, it would just be going by the new dating system they announced, in which the chart date would be the Saturday of the week the charts are posted online and when the paper issue hits newsstands, not the Saturday of the following week. Of course, all this is assuming they keep their year-end cutoff at the mid-November period (roughly after the second week of that month). It is possible that they might keep their first chart date of the charting year as the first Saturday in December, in which case there would be 53 weeks this charting year, but then that would give them a week less to compile the Year-End issue, and something tells me they won't do that. But you're right in that we'll have to wait and see because they haven't said anything for certain about this.

We need something like last year where a major artists releases their lead single in early January so things get interesting again. The song with the most quick traction recently was probably AIWFCIY and that song is from 1994.

Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor were supposed to have new singles out in Nov/Dec. but, it didn't happen.

Even though he's doing the Super Bowl, I wouldn't count on Justin releasing anything. He has a knack for completely missing opportunities and releasing something when he's hot, hence Can't Stop the Feeling and his 4-7 year gaps between albums.

So is this the time radio starts to play year end countdown songs, is that why so many songs made gains?

"AIWFCIY" was actually #30 at Spotify yesterday, which is better than I would have thought. Considering its first 4 days were double what it had been doing, it shouldn't really fall in streams for the chart week. Downloads and airplay are another matter, of course.

So is this the time radio starts to play year end countdown songs, is that why so many songs made gains? AC switching from Xmas is a big contributor and since that format is so late on hits, that's the immediate boost. Countdowns will start later this week into Monday obviously.
