I just listened to one of Tove Lo's new songs, "shedontknowbutsheknows" ("She Don't Know But She Knows")
I was reviewing this year's charts, and saw one song, "The Way I Are" by Bebe Rexha - Timbaland also released a song with that same title one decade ago.
Are those titles correct? Why the mistakes? Another examples?

I don't think most of these are grammar errors. Just grammar that differs from that taught and used academically.
But if somebody from 200 years ago was reading all of our academic articles, they would also think it was full of "errors". But that's because language is constantly evolving. Faster than people can keep track. Or at least faster than print-based dictionaries can keep track of.

It just a difference in dialect. Double negatives ain't no error neither. Just a difference in dialect. And "ain't" is indeed a word. Every fluent English speaker knows its meaning, and it predates many more "formal" contractions. I believe "ain't" even predates the word "should". Confusing "to" with "too" is basically an error. Confusing "its" with "it's" is also an error. |
