As expected, airplay powers "Santa Baby's" No 87 Holiday 100 rank. On Holiday Airplay, Madonna's version ranks No 49. it's the only version of SB on the 50-position chart. On a great note, SPIN continues to give M the love, placing her at No. 3 on its list of 35 Most Influential Artists of the Last 35 Years. And kudos for the positivity of her film career. :) www.spin.com/2020/12/the-most-influential-artists-3-madonna/3. MadonnaThe “Queen of Pop” isn’t enough to describe Madonna — she is Pop. Over nearly four decades, the Italian girl from Michigan formulated the blueprint of what a pop star should be: a triple-threat who’s willing to take risks and doesn’t give a damn about her critics. Madonna’s dominance began with her eponymous debut album in 1983. But she quickly proved there was more up her lace-ruffled sleeve than bubblegum jams. Since then, she’s crafted definitive eras with a discography spanning 14 albums, over 70 music videos and numerous projects dotted in between. She became an ‘80s club kid, drifted us to “La Isla Bonita,” boldly blended sex and religion to cause a Catholic uproar, transformed into dominatrix Mistress Dita, found a ray of light through newfound motherhood and Kabbalah, brought cowboys back in style at the turn of the New Millenium, dismantled the American Dream while drinking soy lattes, became a disco queen and, in case we forgot, reminded the world that she’s an “unapologetic bitch.” Madonna isn’t necessarily deemed a “political” artist, but she’s continuously shown advocacy for social injustices. She propelled “vogueing” from Harlem’s Black ballroom culture into mainstream success for 1990’s groundbreaking “Vogue,” unapologetically praised her faithful LGBTQ+ fanbase, flipped the male gaze on its head in countless music videos that combated a misogyny-riddled music industry and proudly withstood the constant backlash she received for her sexual expression that later gave other women the freedom to do the same. Madonna’s fearlessness couldn’t be contained within a music box: the artist has also cemented herself as a respected actress, garnering critical acclaim for roles in 1985’s Desperately Seeking Susan, 1990’s Dick Tracy, 1992’s A League of Their Own and even won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for 1996’s Evita. She’s also a fashion icon, creating trendsetting moments with the same chameleon-like flair as her genre-bending music. Madonna has writhed around in a wedding dress for 1984’s “Like A Virgin” (which was reincarnated in a “pass the torch” moment for the lip-locking 2003 MTV VMA performance), nearly poked our eyes out with the cone bra from 1990’s now-infamous Blond Ambition World Tour, brought Hollywood’s Golden Era glamour to the 1991 Oscars, became a military sergeant for 2003’s American Life, combined matador and medieval styles for 2015’s Rebel Heart era, and channeled Marilyn Monroe any chance she got. And of course, all of this impact has resulted in a list of accolades that unfolds longer than a CVS receipt: the highest-grossing solo artist of all time, the best-selling international female recording artist of all time, a seven-time Grammy award winner, a 20-time MTV VMA winner and a record of 38 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Madonna has also birthed a legacy that a new generation of singers — from Y2K queens like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to millennial rule-breakers like Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus — continue to uphold. With the way the icon stretches her limits, it’s a wonder how the icon hasn’t had a comet named after her by now. It’ll be light-years until someone as seismic as Madonna comes crashing down from outer space again.

meanwhile, while Mariah is reaching new heights with her Xmas resurgence and Oh Santa, Madonna is what....posing with her new grillz. Oh god. Madonna is getting more unlikeable each day and by the time her biopic will come out, nobody will care for it i'm afraid. Calm down.

MJ lands at #19 I’m not sure if The Beatles qualify for the last 35 years. David Bowie #1 ?? Not sure if he qualifies either. Nirvana ??

No surprise that Nirvana's at No. 1.
All other nonsense be darned- Madonna's impact/greatness continues to be felt/recognized, no matter what any detractors may say. Been that way for decades now.

it really goes to show you no matter how cringey she is these days, her legacy will always cement her as the greatest female of all time, and you can't take that away from her.
personally tho, I wish she would take that title and act more classy with it. But it is what it is. She'll always be at the top of these lists.

Ugh so overrated. I like a lot of their music, but them topping a list like this is nonsense.

I was looking at my past tour books...I have every tour book dating all the way back to the Virgin Tour. All I originally purchased myself when I went to each show. However, I feel like her tour books from Drowned World Tour forward feel a bit hit or miss. They all recycle pictures that had been seen a million times. Not only that, the tour book for The MDNA Tour is almost entirely screen shots from the video for "Girl Gone Wild."
Prior to this, her tour books have had a combination of photoshoots specifically for the tour book mixed with some images of her videos. The Who's That Girl and Girlie Show Tour books especially had a ton of original and new photos. I mean it's fine, because I like the keepsake, but I would have loved some original photographs.
The hits:
Re-Invention Tour: love the photographs. Lots of original shots that were parts of her opening video with that sort of twisted victorian era look. Also lots of photographs and imagery from the X-static Process exhibit in NYC that also appeared in W. But they were different angles and it was such a beautiful photoshoot, that I didn't mind seeing them again. The Confessions Tour program is almost entirely shots from the video for Sorry and opening show video with the horses. The imagery is pretty, but feels a touch recycled, as we had seen a lot of it a few months earlier in W magazine. I also did not like that she printed the entire setlist in the tour book, so it removed any element of surprise as to what was coming up in the show. However, it did come with a "sticker book" inserted in the middle. They were stickers of all the imagery and drawings of horses or her stretching like in the Hung Up video.
The Rebel Heart Tour. It is entirely made up of screen shots from the opening tour video with her prison cage / marilyn monroe look and her Game of Thrones warrior looks. So that was all original, as you would have only seen that imagery once the concert started However, the tour book is so short.
The one tour book I am actually missing is the Madame X tour. They were not ready yet when the show started and I don't think they were made available until after the NY shows. I like to buy the tour book at the show, as it adds to the excitement for me. Buying it after the show felt like a let down, so I never bothered. Should I buy it?

I think because of social media, some images are always going to be as if we have seen them before, etc.

Thriller was MJ's biggest impact, culturally, thus, starting at 1985 may have hurt his ranking on the list. Though being top 20 isn't exactly a bad thing.
The re-Invention tour book was excellent. Those are best when they're not rehashes of images we've already seen/that have been released.

SO i did my Something Else To Remember playlist on Spotify. : ) I had really forgotten how good those songs are. I played it for the first time last night and didn't feel like skipping anything. And that's what I wanted. There are other slow songs, but I really don't like them that much so I didn't include them like What It Feels Like For A Girl, Ghosttown or Drowned World/Substitute For Love. They would've made me click skip. I may still work on the order of the tracks, but it flowed fine last night anyway.
1. You Must Love Me 2. Another Suitcase In Another Hall 3. I Deserve It 4. Frozen 5. To Have And To Hold 6. Nothing Fails 7. Intervention 8. X-Static Process 9. Easy Ride 10. Masterpiece 11. Time Stood Still 12. Be Careful (Cuidado Con Mi Corazón) 13. Paradise (Not For Me) 14. The Power Of Good-bye

The Power Of Good-bye Love your list I would add: Secret Sooner or Later Don’t Cry For Me Argentina Gone Miles Away Falling Free I f**ked up Ghosttown Joan of Arc Messiah Wash All Over Me

Yes, I can add Argentina, you are right! I totally forgot. But this playlist is for what came after Something To Remember so Secret and Sooner couldn't be there. I did listen again to Miles, but it was too fast. I'm going for ballads on this playlist. Ghosttown i don't like. I will for sure check out the other ones you mention since i don't have them fresh in my head to remember them well. Thanks!

I can't believe you don't like Ghosttown. Right? Never did it for me. I mean, it's not ugly, but I just didn't connect with it. I remember during the Music days reading all this unbelievable things about What It Feels Like For A Girl before the album came out and in the end it didn't do much for me either.

I always add Spanish Eyes and The Look of Love whenever i make a Madonna ballad playlist. I wish we had Live To Tell Live from Confessions Tour on Spotify.

it really goes to show you no matter how cringey she is these days, her legacy will always cement her as the greatest female of all time, and you can't take that away from her. personally tho, I wish she would take that title and act more classy with it. But it is what it is. She'll always be at the top of these lists. Not necessarily. There was a time when Aretha topped all of these lists.

She got her first tattoo. The first letter of each of her children’s names. I like it. If she had gotten something big, a huge picture, or something obnoxious I would have eyerolled hard. I like what she chose and where she put it. Attachment Deleted

Surprised she didn't put the E before the S. Unless Stella was born first and that is why.
