Anyone ever felt like GHV2 is sort of overlooked? Although it has sold about 1.5MM copies, it is always sort of forgotten about. I think it is because it omits a lot of singles and contained no new material. These reasons are probably part of the equation, but I also think it came out a time when hits compilations were generally becoming less in-demand because iTunes was becoming a thing. It may have fared better if it had been released right after (or with) Beautiful Stranger's release. Ok, first of all, the fact that you are using the Edith Puthie reference from SNL is killing me. LOL But....I will also say this in terms of GHV2. After the Immaculate Collection and Something to Remember, her compilations have not sold that well. I think a factor could also be her prior successes. She had been such a presence and sold so many singles and albums, that maybe by the time they release a compilation, most folks who are interested in her already own her music and see no need for a compilation.

I think marketing wise perhaps an Immaculate Collection II would've caught more attention. I don't know. Part II, The Second Coming, etc. As a companion to the first collection would've made perhaps more people buy it. I never liked the title GHV2 either. I found it unfortunate. There was never a "Greatest Hits" volume 1. And of course a very strong new-song single would've helped. Plus I never liked the album cover either. Ok, I complaint enough... ha ha.

I like Celebration more anyways. I know it has its flaws for sure, but the first half (if you've forgotten how it goes) is such a joyous ride.

Like a Virgin has not been certified in a long while, I bet it is higher than that now. I believe she had Immaculate and LAV certified diamond at the same time.

Just before GHV2 was released. This is probably what she has eligible: Like A Virgin - 11x Platinum True Blue - 8x Platinum Like A Prayer - 5x Platinum The Immaculate Collection - 11x Platinum - definite Confessions - 2x Platinum - definite Hard Candy - Platinum - definite +5.5xP = 70x Platinum

Today is Friday...you know what that means...a new tracking week...after the True Blue Anniversary interruption, we are back on track, so put your cowboy hat on and start streaming Ray Of Light this week. I pretty much love all the songs, standouts for me are Sky Fits Heaven and Skin. Of course all the released singles were great.
What about you, what are your faves?

I'm listening to "Has To Be" right now, the Japan bonus track. It's really interesting in how it keeps switching up tempo and production elements.
EDIT: Now THIS is how you make a 5+ minute song and make it listenable. It was so engaging that I was surprised it was ending despite the 5:15 length. It's like a chill pre-cursor to "Amazing" on Music

True Blue (35th Anniversary Edition) is out now. Still no "Open Your Heart" or "La Isla Bonita" U.S. Radio remix versions available commercially. I've been looking for 34 years!

I wish we had a site like MixKylie.co.uk with such a comprehensive list of all of M's songs and remixes.
(And for Janet, Whitney, and Mariah too)

With reported album sales topping 75 million in late 2009, she may even have another title or two eligible for an upgrade (and maybe even 12 platinum for TIC). But unless she gets back with WB, we shouldn't' expect anything, really.
Speaking of TIC, it climbed 12 spots to No. 88 on the UK Albums chart this week, fora 357th week in the top 100. TB re-entered the Albums Downloads chart, at No. 17 (third week on; No. 20 is its peak).

Like a Virgin has not been certified in a long while, I bet it is higher than that now. I believe she had Immaculate and LAV certified diamond at the same time. Eh, it would depend on streaming. The album wouldn't have any real sales to speak of since 1998 between the hits being on compilations, and of course now sales being extinct. So, it would need streaming of its hits to be counted toward the album and not a hits set, and for those streams to be pretty big. It takes 1500 on-demand streams to equal 1 million in sales, so that's 1.5 billion on-demand streams.

No real sales?
Between 11/99 and 5/12, the Like A Virgin album sold 198,000 copies.
11/99: 401,504 - SoundScan report for Madonna 05/12: 599,563 - Catalog chart
In that same time:
True Blue sold 125,000 copies.
Madonna sold 154,000.

I'm sure there's also been some decent vinyl sales over the years thanks to its resurgence and the genX hipsters, specifically with her 80s albums. Obviously nothing to rock the weekly charts, but at least something over the years.
80s albums, especially by the icons, hit different while listening on vinyl. If you haven't gotten into the movement yet, get into it.
