As of right now, the Madame X concert album is geo-restricted on Spotify. Last night it was working for a while and then some of the songs stopped, and then now none of them are available. I wonder what happened. I noticed last night at midnight there were 2 versions of the album, but now only 1. I'm in the US, though, so not sure for others.

The Red Rooster set looked so much fun. Dark Ballet, Crazy, Sodade, and Like A Prayer with the crowd going outdoors to the church were fun treats and she looked like she had a blast.

I started watching MX Tour today but couldn't handle it so turned it off at Human Nature. I don't think i'll watch it anytime soon cause editing disturbed me and i felt depressed after two songs. The movie looks great but it's not my cup of tea.

Another positive review 👍 NME Four stars Madame X’ review: Madonna concert movie proves the Queen of Pop is still in her prime Despite a debilitating knee injury, Madge continues to strive for perfection www.nme.com/reviews/film-reviews/madame-x-review-madonna-documentary-3066124Though Madame X is billed as a “documentary film” and a “concert documentary”, it’s really a concert film – albeit a highly stylised and beautifully executed one. If you’re expecting backstage footage of Madonna grappling with the knee injury that sometimes interrupted 2019-2020’s ‘Madame X’ tour, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to see the pop queen reinvent her live show with an even more devil-may-care attitude, it definitely delivers. That knee injury had already forced Madonna to cancel several shows before Madame X was filmed in Lisbon in January 2020, but she doesn’t appear to be struggling here. Admittedly, it doesn’t feature as many high-octane dance routines as a typical Madonna gig, but this seems by design rather than necessity. The singer was so keen to make her latest theatre tour a more “intimate experience” than previous arena-filling juggernauts that she even banned audience members from using their phones. With 48 performers on the payroll, it’s hardly a stripped back affair, but Madonna is probably as accessible as she can be at this point in her career. During one interlude, she takes a polaroid selfie on stage, then sells it off to the highest bidder. We also see Madonna interacting with a famous friend who attended one of the Lisbon gigs: comedian Dave Chappelle. Sadly, it’s pretty jarring to watch this longtime LGBTQ ally enjoy a mutual love-in with someone who has just branded himself “team TERF” in a Netflix special. Still, it’s a brief blip in a film that captures the sensory thrills of the ‘Madame X’ tour, if not necessarily its intimacy. Because it keeps cutting between footage of Madonna on stage and the tour’s pre-recorded video segments, we can take in her artistic vision, but don’t see the singer herself as closely as we might. The film begins with a James Baldwin quote Madonna is fond of – “artists are here to disturb the peace” – then follows the singer’s eyepatch-wearing Madame X character as she barrels through her own vague but effective version of this. It’s a wilfully provocative mix of politics and pussy jokes as she underlines her feminist credentials by singing ‘Express Yourself’ a cappella and pledges her allegiance to numerous marginalised groups on ‘Killers Who Are Partying’, a clunky track from the ‘Madame X’ album. Fortunately, she also performs superior ‘Madame X’ songs like the stylish house bop ‘I Don’t Search I Find’ and a more generous smattering of classic hits than she is generally associated with. A heartfelt rendition of ‘Frozen’ accompanied by black-and-white footage of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon is a strikingly poignant highlight. Though this film doesn’t acknowledge it, grinding through a lengthy tour with a painful injury must have been traumatic for a performer who’s famously a perfectionist. Madame X feels like an opportunity to end the experience on a positive and empowered note. Throughout Madame X, Madonna is in total command of the stage as she follows her own mantra: “Don’t go for second best, baby.”

Interesting that Crazy is the most listened track on Spotify from the new album.
Just finished watching it tonight. I thought it was great. I found the opening with God Control very emotional. Also I watched with my friend who is just a casual fan and she thought it was amazing and loved how intimate it felt.

I watched Madame X today with my Momma, streamed the live album on the way home and I just downloaded the album on iTunes. I have to say, there are some songs that sound better in the car than when watching it and vice versa. Future in the car is great, compared to watching it and LAP is better watching then listening in the car.

Watched it tonight and loved every second of it. I do agree that billing it as a documentary vs. concert film was misleading (and I would’ve loved some BTS footage or more exposition about the creative process and conceptualizing the show) but it was still a beautiful watch and really emphasized how vital and relevant an artist she still is almost 4 decades later.

I was reviewing some of her earlier releases, specifically "Crazy for You.
CFY was included on the Immaculate Collection and was reissued in the UK as a single in 1991. It was issued as "Crazy for You (Remix)". Both times it was released in the UK, it peaked at #2.
I am assuming that Remix refers to it being the Q-Sound version, which just makes the sound fuller and crisper, because I am hard pressed to hear anything else that is different about the re-issue. The plucked strings in the beginning of the song sounds a little more prominent, but that is all I can tell.

Wow, I had no idea that CFY was re-released in the UK in 1991 - or maybe I didn't realise until now that it was first released as early as 1985 (when I was 2 years old)! I just remember it being everywhere at some point in my life and so I guess that was during the '91 re-release.

I remember were talking about her two new songs that were out during Spanish class. She had both Material Girl and CFY out at the same time. At their peak, they were in the Top 5 at the same time.

I listened to the live album today and I enjoyed it overall.
One issue I had was with the mastering. Some of the songs sounded like they were sourced from low quality mp3s. For some of "Vogue", it sounded like the vocals came from the MDNA Tour performance and I don't mean the rap. I really wish "Sodade" had been included.

A bit confused. The cover is out today, not the mag, right? The article says Nov 2 still.

^ many physical copies of magazines are printed with a date of a week out. Some monthly magazines are dated 2 weeks out. Don’t quote me on that tho lol

MX- the '91 reissues of "Crazy For You" was probably labeled "remix" to distinguish it from the original '85 single (plus it was a Q-sound mix). As you know, both it and the '91 "Holiday" releases were pulled from TIC, and had different catalog numbers vs. the originals, etc. So I have no issue with them counting as "new" top 10 hits. On a related note, though, "Holiday" from the '80s really should count as one top 10, as the re-charting in '85 was the same single that charted originally.

Oh I have no issue with counting it as a separate single. I was just wondering if it was truly a remix or just the Q-Sound thing. For example, with Love Don't Live Here Anymore, they released the version that appears on Something to Remember. It was called a remix and I can hear some subtle differences, but it did get the full remix treatment for the video and then the clubs. Crazy for You sounds relatively the same, just a little fuller.

Yeah, I agree on both counts. LDLHA on STR isn't really a "remix" per se. I've always liked the adjustments made to that version (those keys, for one). The mix used in the video is OK, but puts the strings/musicianship to the background, which is a highlight of her version. I like the dance mix- hope it pops up on iTunes/streaming in the near future. I was just rambling on about the separate-singles thing. Sometimes I just toss stuff in there hat's not necessarily about the discussion at hand.
