This is going to be tricky.
She was massive in her first era, but even that it was clear that the situation was potentially dangerous for her in the long time, because she could not stick to the sound that makes her popular.
No was big at first but faded too soon, and then everything went downhill.
So she better comeback or with a massive hit or with a good hit that stays in the charts for a while (like Kesha's Praying)

It’s not even the sound that’s the issue, it’s the lyrics and her personality in the songs. Empowerment songs can be great. All About That Bass and Lips Are Moving has clever lyrics, a fun sound but they didn’t come across as bitter, cocky or “I’m better than you”. For example, “I know you think you’re fat, but I’m here to tell you every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top”. NØ pushed this boundary a bit but she sounded like she was having fun - they were lighthearted insults/remarks, and it had a fun throwback sound to it. Me Too and Dear Future Husband completely went over that line. She sounded so cocky and narcissistic. She didn’t seem like she was having fun, she just seemed mean and they weren’t fun to listen to. If she wants to stick to her usual theme, it needs to be in the vein of All About That Bass or NØ. Not Me Too or Lips Are Moving. Better and Like I’m Gonna Lose You are gems in her discography, and although the latter ended up being a hit, they both deserved so much better (than yooouu, better) |

Almost every artist from Rihanna to Sam Smith is destined to flop big time. Of course after such prediction sometimes you are going to get it right, but even some of the biggest hist from last decade were predicted to flop (even to destroy the career of the artist) here. Only new artists don't receive that treatment (with their first single, with the second the blood bath starts) I think Meghan has a big advantage being a song writer. If the new material doesn't work she can keep herself busy writing songs for others for a while and came back later. She has several hurdles, the sound of her first album was very specific and she can't go there again, the second era ended abruptly, so now is a fresh start. I think her name is still big enough to give the song a push when it's released but it'll need some staying power to make the next releases easier. I agree with people who said that she could better release some singles before the album, it's not something without risk but it gives her more time to test the waters |
