'Love Wins' is TRASH. There is literally nothing enjoyable about that song. I am not stunned at all its down towards the bottom. Title track next, please. <3 Southbound is fun, I think. It's definitely not her best effort but I like to jam to it because its in between such other amazing songs on the record. The 4-5-6-7 run on this CD is the highlight for sure. ETA: LOL GHOSTS IS STILL HERE????!!!!

Preview for #8
-- 12 9 10 9 10 8 7 10 10 11 10 10 10 8 10 11 10 9 10 6 6 6 8 8 8 9 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
17 point gap between "Southbound" and #8, so it ended in a pretty big gap, but this one was right in the middle of the pack for a bit, but also spent a good amount of time in the bottom. Wish it would have stayed down there, but at least it made it no higher than #8. 3 people lose their #1 with this one and 2 lose their last place.

I’m probably the highest ranker for The Bullet and I’d be shocked to see it have THREE #1s.

Can't remember how it goes but I didn't hate it based on my ranking lol
I just listened to it, and it's good. Nothing I love.... but solid.

As far as socially conscious songs go, I feel like this one hit a perfect stride lyrically and her vocal on it really drives the message home. It may not go down as one of her most memorable catalog songs but, for me, it’s one of her most personally impactful, especially growing up surrounded by gun violence.

I think "The Bullet" is a song that suffers from people projecting their own expectations, opinions, etc onto it. If you can just see it as a story song in the country tradition, it's a fine song.

My placement of “Southbound” (#4) as high as I did is a good example of what I mean when I said this album for me is very hard to rank and my 4-12 ranks change based on my music mood. I do think the song works for Carrie in every way that “One Way Ticket” didn’t. It’s a fun song for summer that I could see doing well for her. With that said, there are definitely more than 3 better songs on the album...
My ranking of “The Bullet” (#5) is probably more stable in the top half of the album. To me, the sound of this song is reminiscent to 2000s country that I really love. This is the chorus that is stuck in my head after listening to this album and I find myself singing. I actually really appreciate the lack of a political viewpoint in this song that many reviewers wanted. It’s about more than politics and I think that’s what many actually should take away from this song.

Low isn’t my jam but I understand why people like it.
I can only assume Ghosts, however, still remains because people only listened to the first two tracks and ranked them 1-2. That song is so bad.

"The Bullet" is great. That + "Ghosts" are the two A+ tier songs on this album for me.

The thing is, “The Bullet” should be a good song. Lyrically, it holds up; thoughtful imagery and storytelling really bring it together on paper. The production is where it falters, in my opinion. When brought to life, it’s a boring song that isn’t performed with much passion (which is surprising, considering what Carrie said about it prior to the album’s release). This abysmal take on it is what degrades it.
Carrie does put forth a lot of emotion on this record. “Cry Pretty,” “Low,” “Spinning Bottles,” “Love Wins,” and even “Kingdom” portray that. Conversely, “The Bullet” is a lackluster track that relies too heavily on its narrative qualities to sell it. Without the balance between effective songwriting and a meaningful vocal interpretation, the impact is just not there. Even aside from it not being a ‘statement’ song, per se, I believe a mismatch in the production and arrangement is what alienates it from critics and casual listeners.

Preview for #7
-- 4 2 4 5 4 6 6 6 6 6 6 8 7 9 7 7 9 10 8 7 7 8 6 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7
This one had a couple high ranks at first to have it float in or just outside the top 5 for awhile. Then some lower ones came in to knock it down to #10 at one point. Then it gained a couple more spots to end up at #7. Two lose their #1 here and only one person thinks this is the worst song on the entire album. This one happens to be the 2nd lowest Standard Deviation for the album too!

Based on the preview, I could see this being either "Ghosts on the Stereo" or "Cry Pretty". I feel like CP makes the most sense to leave first, but then again I think "Ghosts" feels like one that would be more likely to be the second least polarizing... Like, surely more people have to dislike CP, compared to the one or two boneheads who dislike "Ghosts"?
So, "Ghosts" is my official prediction!

But at this point, I have no idea what I might have caused to move down with my ranks... Everything that is left is in my top half or just barely below. Maybe "Backsliding"??

"End Up With You" is awful. Glad it didn't make it any higher than this.
