A pure "cover" perhaps However, Parts of Blurred Lines and Uptown Funk were taken from prior hits Hehe that's right. As I wrote that, I almost said "Right Round" doesn't count, lol - it's the one I remembered the most, totally forgot about "Blurred Lines". Side note, I love "Blurred Lines", and hate "Got to Give It Up", I just don't get what that song was trying to be. I didn't know about "Uptown Funk" sampling stuff. Also, lol at "Shape of You" apparently sampling "No Scrubs". Must take a good ear to pick up on that, never in a million years would I have drawn a connection between those two. www.bet.com/news/music/2015/05/04/uptown-funk-splits-writing-credits-with-the-gap-band.html

Guys, perhaps this is quite off-topic, but I just came across this:
"Note: "Last week" (January 4, 1986) and "two weeks ago" (December 28, 1985) columns on chart show the exact same positions for any entry, except debuts, indicating January 4, 1986, was a frozen week."
"Note – the chart was “frozen” last week (week ending 4th January, 1986). The next new chart was dated 11th January, 1986"
Does anyone know what happened with that chart, what this means?

I forget the precise years but this was their year-end double issue. Freeze the charts and take an extra week off. This happened most years between the 70s and early 90s (again, not sure of the precise years) This is not an anomaly - it was on purpose

So it happened more than once? Wow. Interesting. Begs the question, could any songs have performed better overall if those particular weeks hadn't been frozen? Or were the numbers from those weeks taken into account in the subsequent one, the first new week to be tabled again? Just saw www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1986-01-04 . Yep, all one hundred positions frozen.

Doubtful - With technology in place at the time, all likely would not have moved much anyway
Manual sales reports from stores (no itunes) manual radio playlist reports

Plus it was always over the Christmas Freeze.
Radio Stations and retailers were on vacation, did not submit their playlists, and as we all know, stations don't really add or spike anything these weeks.
Nothing really changed anyway till the unfrozen weeks.

I thought about this awhile back when I think I noticed Like A Virgin's 6 weeks on top was actually 7 if you count the frozen week in the middle of it's stay at #1. Right? I'm sure this goes for many other songs too. I realize it's not 7 because the charts weren't formulated that week, but in terms of actual calendar weeks...

Wouldn't that mean it's actually 5, and it was just given an extra, frozen week? Cos, no chart weeks are missing between 1984 and 1985 (the dates all add up), or any year, as far as I could tell.

Don't look at Like A Virgin as a good example. Someone at Billboard screwed up the chart back then with 'weeks at #1" being wrong two weeks running. I'm afraid that's a bad example. LaV got 6 weeks at #1, including the frozen week.

Damn, "rockstar" is out of the top five. :( It had a good run, though, i guess.

Is How Long at 21 again? And is New Rules seriously out of the top 10 already?

Is How Long at 21 again? And is New Rules seriously out of the top 10 already? NR has peaked on airplay, the only component where it was doing remarkably well, so not a huge shocker. God's Plan didn't actually beat Harlem Shake, did it? Boring week overall, good to see both Black Panther songs going up though.

Is How Long at 21 again? And is New Rules seriously out of the top 10 already? New Rules has zero streaming and the song isn't selling well, the only thing holding it up is airplay and it's already starting to fall on radio. So it's out of the Top 10. Also, I am shocked Lights Down Low had such a large jump, especially since it has the same case as New Rules. But, congrats to MAX on his first Hot 100 Top 20, Gnash with his second.

Boring week overall, good to see both Black Panther songs going up though. Harlem Shake had 103 million streams in its first week at #1 while God's Plan has 101 million, so no.

First shake-up in the top 5, which we had been waiting for, and it's "Look Alive". xD F*ck me sideways. Oh well, at least "All the Stars" has risen. HOW is "Finesse" not #2 yet?!

No streaming record just the 100m threshold Not really big news then, I guess the guy wanted to increase the amount of viewers on the livestream, but I'm not sure the 10 extra viewers were worth it...

HOW is "Finesse" not #2 yet?! And given Psycho, I think #3 might end up becoming Finesse's peak

The only metric that Finesse has an advantage over Perfect is YouTube. Even on-demand streaming it was below Perfect last week.

Or were the numbers from those weeks taken into account in the subsequent one, the first new week to be tabled again? Just saw www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1986-01-04 . Yep, all one hundred positions frozen. Billboard froze the final week of the year from 1976 to 1992. So the final published week essentially counted twice. There wouldn't likely be a ton of differences if the final week had been tabulated, but there are probably a few examples. I think there's little doubt Madonna's "Justify My Love" would have bumped Stevie B's "Because I love You", giving both songs 3 weeks on top instead of 4 for Stevie and 2 for Madonna. Fortunately for the Bay City Rollers the policy wasn't started a year earlier: their only number one hit, "Saturday Night", topped the January 3, 1976 chart. If that week had been frozen, the Staples Singers' "Let's Do It Again" would have gotten a second week on top and the Bay City Rollers would never have had a number one hit! But in general, radio and sales slowed down at the end of the year (we still call it the year end freeze to this day) and there wasn't much in the way of big chart action happening.
