35. "I'll Be There" - Gail Davies Total: 360 Average: 27.69 Std Dev: 9.89
Year Released: 1980 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #4
Gail Davies is the next 80's Lady to leave for our next round of reveals. Both myself and someguy lose our #40 song while bboat11 see's another top 10 eliminated. This is the second song to be eliminated that will be featured in bboat11 's Martina McBride's album series rankdown. "To Know Him Is to Love Him" was covered by Martina on her Everlasting album while "I'll Be There" was covered on her Timeless album. While I think Gail is a great singer/songwriter this song just didn't have much replay value and therefore I ended up ranking it last. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) Heaven Only Knows I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool I’ll Always Come Back It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leaving’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache Some Girls Have All the Luck Somebody’s Knocking’ There’s No Stoppin’ Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose The Way We Make A Broken Heart Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

Martina's version of "I'll Be There" is MUCH better. I love her version whereas this one was kinda just there. Not terrible but not great either.

34. "Somebody's Knockin'" - Terri Gibbs Total: 359 Average: 27.61 Std Dev: 9.55
Year Released: 1980 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #8 Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Peak: #3
This song ended up performing a bit better than I expected as I initially thought this would end up in the bottom 5 considering her lack of name recognition as well as it being one of the oldest songs selected for 80's Ladies. LBTrocks loses their first top 10 while three more lose a bottom 5 ranking. "Somebody's Knockin'" was Terri's debut single and became a crossover hit reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Terri went on to become the first recipient of the CMA's Horizon Award. {Songs Remaining} 80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) Heaven Only Knows I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool I’ll Always Come Back It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leaving’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache Some Girls Have All the Luck There’s No Stoppin’ Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose The Way We Make A Broken Heart Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

SERIOUSLY you guys? Should have known Pulse would tank a song in a minor key early on lol.
Anyway, the song is incredible. Terri Gibbs is incredible. Stay hatin' y'all.

33. "Heaven Only Knows” - Emmylou Harris Total: 351 Average: 27 Std Dev: 8.27
Year Released: 1989 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #16
The 2018 recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award is the next 80's Lady to leave. Glove Slap takes another top 10 loss while myself and sabre14 lose a top 20 ranking; three others see another bottom 5 ranking eliminated. I initially had a different song selected for Emmylou, however upon listening to more of her discography and discovering the great album Bluebird I opted to include her final top 20 country hit. Emmylou Harris became my favorite discovery when researching songs for this rankdown and I just fell in love with her music. She just happened to come through Austin last month so I was lucky enough to be able to see her in concert and she didn't disappoint. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool I’ll Always Come Back It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leaving’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache Some Girls Have All the Luck There’s No Stoppin’ Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose The Way We Make A Broken Heart Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

That's better lol.
I honestly can't stand Emmylou's voice. Song is alright I guess, but that voice is a no. This technically isn't a good song for her either. The music totally drowns out her voice.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
"I'll Be There" is SOOO CATCHY!!!!!!
Well, I guess that's what I get for tanking "To Know Him is to Love Him"; I even played the latter three times to see if it would ever click with me. :(

Brace yourself...you won't like the reveal for #32 If it's Crystal Gayle then this rankdown is officially CANCELLED. I can't imagine you heathens eliminating her in the bottom 10 but sometimes with Pulse you just never know. (I'm going worse case scenario here. That way, if it isn't that, I won't be as upset lol!)

32. "The Way We Make A Broken Heart” - Rosanne Cash Total: 344 Average: 26.48 Std Dev: 8.74
Year Released: 1987 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1 Roseanne Cash loses her first of two songs for 80's Ladies. Unfortunately for LBTrocks they lose their second top 10 tonight while three others lose a top 20; bboat11 is the only one to rank this in the bottom 5. I wanted to make sure to include one song from her King's Record Shop album which saw all four of its singles go to #1. I kept coming back around to this song even knowing that it wouldn't likely perform well. I would've liked to have seen it make the top 30 at least, but this placement seems about right for what I was expecting. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool I’ll Always Come Back It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leaving’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache Some Girls Have All the Luck There’s No Stoppin’ Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

I love Rosanne Cash! Her voice is incredible and the instrumentation on "The Way We Make A Broken Heart" is just wonderful.
I'm relieved it's this and not "Seven Year Ache" yet. That song is amazing and should hopefully make the top 10.

And now for all you Cyndi Lauper haters 31. "Some Girls Have All the Luck” - Louise Mandrell Total: 344 Average: 26.46 Std Dev: 8.6
Year Released: 1986 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #22
Louise Mandrell is the first of the Mandrell sisters to leave with her 1986 hit "Some Girls Have All the Luck." Glove Slap loses a second top 10 ranking while we see two more take another hit to their top 20; rgreen0625 and Kanenrá:ke both lose another bottom 5 ranking. Louise saw modest success on the country charts from 1983-1985 where she was able to take five songs into the top 10. While this song wasn't her highest charting single it did end up being my personal favorite from her. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool I’ll Always Come Back It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leaving’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache There’s No Stoppin’ Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

Okay, surely "I'll Be There" won't be done THIS dirtily when it comes time for the Timeless rankdown..... I have always found that song to be so fun and catchy! Of course Martina's version was the first one I learned, so I may have just been biased when it came time to do these rankings because it was a song I was familiar with. I have no attachment to the Gail Davies version, nor did I even know she was the one who sang the song.

Encore! We see four more 80's Ladies of Country leave us tonight while Rosanne Cash still has one song remaining in the rankdown.
Gail Davies "Grandma's Song" This ended up being my favorite song from Gail and I almost included it for this rankdown, however I opted to go with one of her biggest hits. I still wonder how this would've done overall.
Terri Gibbs "Dream Lover" Terri's debut single was her only top 10 hit so I opted to include a duet she did with Barbara Mandrell on her Mandrell Sisters variety show from the early 80s.
Emmylou Harris "Born to Run" This was the initial song I had selected for Emmylou and almost wish I had left this one in as it still is one of my favorite songs from her early 80s material.
Louise Mandrell "Maybe My Baby" This song was her first single from the album of the same name and went on to become a top 10 for her in 1985.

Not doing well at all, but I'm glad that's the first of Rosanne Cash's songs to go.

So far, so good. There's only 1 song in the remaining 30 that I don't really like.
Agree with others who say "I'll Be There" was better when Martina covered it for Timeless. I had never actually heard the original or knew who sang that one, but I was very underwhelmed with Gail's recording. Wasn't a fan of that Terri Gibbs song at all on first listen, either. The other three songs eliminated in this set are all unsurprising losses as well.

Now that I've got your attention...who is ready for some more 80's Ladies?!? I'm going to get us to the Top 25 before taking a short intermission and then return to get us to the Top 20 all before the night is over! There may be some surprises to come and we'll see both the 1st and 2nd most polarizing songs leave. One particular member is going to lose not one, not two, but FIVE top 10's by the time we reach the Top 20!! Let's get this started!

30. "I'll Always Come Back" - K.T. Oslin Total: 342 Average: 26.3 Std Dev: 9.93
Year Released: 1988 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
The great K.T. Oslin is the first to leave us this evening with "I'll Always Come Back." This was the fourth single from 80's Ladies and became her second consecutive #1 single. rgreen0625 and myself lose a Top 10 while two others lose another bottom 5. The video for this song continues where "80's Ladies" left off with K.T. driving back home to her son after her small reunion with old classmates. I've always had a soft spot for this song if only because of the video and it'll always remind me of my mom. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leavin’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache There’s No Stopping Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whiskey, If You Were A Woman Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

29. "Whiskey, If You Were A Woman" Paulette Carlson of Highway 101 Total: 321 Average: 24.69 Std Dev: 11.2 (4th highest)
Year Released: 1987 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #2
First and foremost...y'all did this song very, very dirty. Ok with that out of the way...next to leave us is one of the great songs by Highway 101 when Paulette Carlson was the lead singer. Highway 101 had a string of hits from 1987 to the early 90's which saw them accumulate four #1's and six top 10's. In late 1990, Paulette Carlson left the band for a solo career and was only able to produce one Top 40 single from her debut record. sabre14 loses a top 10 while myself and two others lose a top 20; and much to my surprise this saw not one but THREE bottom five rankings. Highway 101 will also be featured in Cody Wants Out... 's Country Group Mania rankdown which will open at the end of next week. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Baby I Lied Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leavin’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache There’s No Stopping Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

28. "Baby I Lied" - Deborah Allen Total: 310 Average: 23.84 Std Dev: 11.08 (5th highest)
Year Released: 1983 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #4 Billboard Adult Contemporary Peak: #10
Deborah Allen's 1983 hit "Baby I Lied" is the next song to leave us tonight (this was also my birth year!). Most of you might be more familiar with her as a songwriter as she penned Patty Loveless' 1993 hit "Hurt Me Bad (In a Real Good Way)"; she also appeared on the The Thing Called Love soundtrack where she performed "Blame It On Your Heart." sabre14 loses his second top 10 with @induglecountry and Kanenrá:ke joining him losing a top 10; two others lose a bottom 5. This song did about as well as I expected and glad to see it make the top 30. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leavin’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Satisfy You Seven Year Ache There’s No Stopping Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

" Let's get physical, physical I want to get physical Let's get into physical Let me hear your body talk, your body talk Let me hear your body talk" Yes that Olivia Newton-John song always gets stuck in my head whenever I hear this song 27. "Satisfy You" - Sweethearts of the Rodeo Total: 295 Average: 22.69 Std Dev: 10.7
Year Released: 1988 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #5
Unfortunately for sabre14 he loses his third top 10 this evening while two more lose a bottom 5 ranking; most of us ended up ranking this somewhere in the 20's overall. The Sweethearts of the Rodeo first got their start by winning a Wrangler Country Showdown and went on to accumulate a string of top 10's in the late 80's {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Dear Me Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leavin’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Seven Year Ache There’s No Stopping Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

"It must have been love but it's over now It was all that I wanted, now I'm living without It must have been love but it's over now"
When listening to this song I always envisioned the female character listening to "It Must Have Been Love" when penning the letter to herself. 26. "Dear Me" - Lorrie Morgan Total: 291 Average: 22.38 Std Dev: 12.69 (2nd highest!)
Year Released: 1989 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #9
Somehow "Dear Me" by Lorrie Morgan ended up being the 2nd most polarizing song of the rankdown and I for sure did not expect that! This song accumulated three top 10 rankings and one top 5 by bboat11 ; it also somehow managed to get two bottom 5 rankings by Kanenrá:ke and LBTrocks (yes I'm calling y'all out!). I really expected this song to be a top 15/20 contender so I'm for sure disappointed to see it out already. This song was Lorrie's first top 5 single in 1989 from the great album Leave the Light On. {Songs Remaining}80’s Ladies 9 to 5 Can’t Even Get the Blues No More Cross My Broken Heart Daddy’s Hands Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) I Fell In Love Again Last Night I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye Jose Cuervo A Lesson In Leavin’ Love Me Like You Used To My Arms Stay Open All Night Never Had It So Good Nobody Queen of Hearts Seven Year Ache There’s No Stopping Your Heart Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Who’s Cheatin’ Who Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

Encore! We say goodbye to four more 80's Ladies of Country while K.T. Oslin remains with her hit "80's Ladies."
Paulette Carlson of Highway 101 "The Bed You Made For Me" This song was Highway 101's first top 5 hit in 1987.
Deborah Allen "Rock Me (In the Cradle of Love)" Deborah returned to country music in 1993 with her debut album Delta Dreamland on Giant Records. This song went on to be a top 30 hit for her.
Sweethearts of the Rodeo "Midnight Girl/Sunset Town" This was actually the first song I had selected for them in the rankdown, however somewhere towards the end I changed it to "Satisfy You." This remains my favorite song by them and peaked at #5 in 1988.
Lorrie Morgan "Out of Your Shoes" This was the follow-up single to "Dear Me" and peaked at #2 in December of 1989.
