Is a radio promoted single still needed in today’s music climate? I would think if an artist on the scale of Chainsmokers released a song to Spotify or YouTube, that would be sufficient for it to hit, and for radio to catch on. No? I don't think radio is needed anymore, but I do think it's still very viable and even essential for most artists. Things are evolving tho. There's a reason these artists just throw singles out there these days - it's a cheap way to potentially have a hit, even if only for a week or two.

How big is "Psycho," the new single from Republic's Post Malone f/Ty Dolla $ign? Well, it's really too early to tell. Naw, we're f**king with you: We can totally tell this thing is gigantic. "Psycho," following on the heels of Post's massive and relentless "rockstar," is #1 at Spotify U.S., having displaced the similarly formidable "God's Plan" by labelmate Drake. It's also #2 at Spotify Global and Apple Music behind "Plan," #1 at iTunes and the biggest mover at Shazam. At Rhythm radio, the track left the field in the dust as #1 Most Added, tacking on 56 stations at first blush. It's made significant inroads at Pop as well. The song also debuted in the Top 5 on the U.K. singles chart. A video for the track is due Friday (3/2), which will likely only stoke the fire. Malone's forthcoming full-length, Beerbongs and Bentleys, is due in late spring/early summer. The presale for his pending tour with 21 Savage began on 2/20. The North American leg kicks off in Portland, OR, in April. So... yeah. Big. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=310738

I think Whatever It Takes will be the next Imagine Dragons top 10 hit.

Yeah it seems like it, though I'm not sure if it was an official radio-promoted single. that would be something though if their next era flopped. It actually seems to be a pattern with many duos throughout history: they have one or two albums that are huge, and they suddenly tank after that, either due to them splitting up, some controversy, or their follow-up just being poorly received. It happened with Wham!, Milli Vanilli, Outkast, LMFAO, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. That's not what happened with Milli Vanilli. They were revealed to be frauds who lip synced to two other men's singing. They were simply hired because they "looked better" than the actual singers. The ONLY time the Grammy's ever took back an award was for the one they gave Milli Vanilli for BNA in 1989. If you search the Grammy archives, it now shows no award given out for BNA for that year; it's like it never even existed. I think that would fall under "some controversy."

Yes, as was already pointed out by another poster yesterday. Although frankly it was more than just "some controversy" when it happened.

6. (-1) CHARLIE PUTH - How Long (115.832) (-1.904) I guess How Long has almost no chance peaking higher than #21 now.

I started watching Meghan Trainor's new video, for lead single "New Excuses", and I shut it down after the first chorus. Just no. She keeps making the exact same song, again and again, and making it worse each time. I really wanted to like this song and root for its chart success, but now I want it to flop just so she learns something. How can both she and her producers be so uninspired? The theme has gotten old for her, and the chorus sounds awful.

I have only heard "Him & I", when it came out. Weirdly enough (as it is uncommon with most songs), I can still remember the "in the end, it's him and I" part. Songs rarely stick with me after a first listen. I didn't care much for it that first time, but I should definitely give it another listen.

G-Easy just makes it god awful I pretty much do prefer most of her other songs to No Limit as well I bop to No Limit a biiiiit, G-Eazy is a very "meh" artist, nothing about him really clicks with me much, so his features are usually the ones who save most of his songs for me

yep that too, Lots of other duos that had long careers too Others that were groups became duos like Steely Dan and Air Supply Basically no curse on being a duo. After rethinking it some more, let me put it another way: I guess there's no curse on being a duo per se, but they do seem to crash and burn disproportionately relatively early in their careers, right after a huge album era (usually their first or second). I can't think of nearly as many group and solo artists who have had a similar career pattern. Alanis Morisette? Iggy Azalea?...Those are the only ones who come to mind right away. I realize though that Milli Vanilli might not be the best example of this, because the very premise of that duo was fraudulent from the beginning and they were sort of doomed to fail.
