Tunji leaving for Def Jam has thrown what little hope I had for her on RCA out the window. But maybe she’s hinting at a Q1 release that can be toured in Summer 2022. Let me dream.

I love her so much. Her team has done a great job at establishing her as a celebrity name and someone of status despite the short list of hits with the GP. She needed to have come hard on this "debut" single for this ever so anticipated debut album.
The song is nice but will do nothing on pop radio imo. If she's fully on board to go only r&b flavoured music then that's her personal decision. I hope it's a gamble that pays off. I'm still going to love anything she puts out but if she doesn't have any pop songs on the album I don't expect her to pull big numbers. Prove me wrong, Queen.

Lipping a song that doesn't require much vocal ability is just...sad. I would love to hear her reasons.

I like the new song, but I agree I don't see it being a huge hit. I'd love to at least see her do some high profile performances, that's where she really shines.

"Fair" is good, but not single good.
At this point, do we need to start a Go Fund Me for her so she can fire her whole ass team?

I'm still going to love anything she puts out but if she doesn't have any pop songs on the album I don't expect her to pull big numbers. Prove me wrong, Queen. Far is not being sent to pop. The radio date announced for it was for urban only, and it's not even clear to me if they're going to push across urban as a whole. According to someone att ATRL adult r&b is the focus, while the single following this one is going to be "the" big single that gets most heavily pushed. There was a snippet that leaked a few days ago and if that is the song they were talking about it does sound very promising, something that could serve win over both urban and pop. She supposedly also has a collab on Calvin's next album so that could also be the pop single he was referring to. Wild Side is the debut for this album; I don't know why anyone would think otherwise. Fair was not made with pop or the Hot 100 in mind and I don't necessarily think that's a problem. Established r&b girls have opened well the past couple of years so it's not a bad lane to aim for. (To be clear here I am not saying Normani herself is established yet...but she's not an established pop staple either, so I see no reason to expect her opening week numbers to be any better just bc she has a pop single out.) Normani has said she doesn't want to be boxed in, but being a 'variety' artist has always been a hard sell so if she can lock in a specific audience that will be good for her in the long run. Based on the two songs we've heard in full + that leaked snippet I think her album must be pretty definitively r&b, so makes sense that is where and RCA have decided to try to grow a solid base. A one-off pop hit probably wouldn't move that many album/SEA units for her unless it was a REALLY big hit. If she'd liked Motivation more I think we'd be having a very different conversation right now, but she has all but said she wasn't super crazy about the song and kind of shut down promo for it herself bc it didn't match the direction she wanted to go in. I don't even think her team is the biggest 'culprit' here, so to speak. If anyone is unhappy with where she's seemingly headed right now you really just got a problem with Normani. This is the conclusion I've drawn anyway, just from trying to keep up with her. She moves oddly (tbh itt's almost like waching the musical equivalent of a recovering trauma victim sometimes) but they feel like her moves, at least. I think it's easier for me to take bc I do really like WS and Fair and will always have room in my heart for an r&b girlie, but admittedly I had other expectations for her bc I thought she was trying to be a main pop girl. I'm trying to shift those expectations accordingly now, though I'm not sure yet where they should be. I'm not actually sure she was lip-syncing in the Fallon performance. I thought that when I first watched it, but later on I noticed some of the ad-libs are different from the recorded version (and it doesn't make sense IMO to record different ad-libs for a song that no one even knows yet). This isn't the first time I've noticed this, but Normani has a voice that sounds very similar both live and in the studio. Odd thing to call a problem, but if she is singing live in these perfs she needs to find a way to make that more obvious somehow bc she legit just sounds like the record. If she was lip-syncing, well *shrug* bc she'd hardly be tthe only girl who does (and some of the ones who don't, I really wish they would)

She has clapped back at lipsynching accusers in the past, essentially saying "yes, I sound THAT good!" Go off, I guess? Tbh, I was basing my lipsynching comment after all I read and, while it's POSSIBLE she sang live (fun fact: there are some REALLY nice microphones out there that can work wonders), after watching it, I still don't buy it. For a song that has raw emotion, the vocals, especially live vocals, should sell that and...she didn't. While I don't know if Normani has ever tooted her own horn as a supreme vocalist, you would think she would use a major platform to really shine vocally, instead of just trying to do a carbon copy of recorded vocals, ESPECIALLY since the performance was beautiful gown x camera and mic stand assault, with a few ad-libs that may or may not have been live. I still think the album, when it drop on October 33, will be good though.

If she was lip-syncing, well *shrug* bc she'd hardly be tthe only girl who does (and some of the ones who don't, I really wish they would) I also noticed the small differences here and there between her Fallon live and the studio version. She might've technically "sung" live on Fallon, but it was probably heavily autotuned. Either way, it wasn't the wisest execution to debut this song on TV. It hurt her reputation as a performer.

I do think the average listener/viewer won't care, though. But, homegirl should definitely avoid the blogs if she doesn't want her feelings hurt.

Wild Side is the debut for this album; I don't know why anyone would think otherwise. Because it was released 8 months ago?

I wish she would perform “Fair” at the Grammys tonight! I don’t really think normani (who I consider myself a fan of) is really big enough to get a Grammys slot yet. Especially for a song not nominated for anything

She had to beg to perform at the Vmas and only got it the last minute bc someone else pulled out. I doubt the Grammys was in her reach.

Normani puts on a good show but doesn't have the clout/hits to be considered for a Grammy performance. If they were to honor Beyoncé or Janet I could see her performing in a tribute.
