Let's head right on into the Top 5 and talk about #5.
Another seven Top 10s here, but no #1s are involved – instead there's a #2. All but three people ranked this in their top half. Of the bottom rankers, as previously mentioned, this is our final song that features no bottom 10 rankings. Everything else from here on out has at least one.
Here we have another song that held inside the Top 10 the entire time. This also stuck in the Top 5 almost the whole time (four out of it), and this even spent time in the Top 3, and almost at #1. Sadly for it, someone dipped this out of the Top 5 late, and it was only able to make up enough ground to get back to #5.

#4 keeps the pace going with low bottom half rankings, but this one holds similar to "Before I Fall".
Seven people put this inside their Top 10, but three of those are inside the Top 3, and one is a #1. As previously mentioned, this had some low bottom half rankings. One came close to putting it Top 20, but the other two...not so close. They are both bottom 5s, and one of those holds in the bottom 3.
These two bottom 5s actually were costly in this song's development, as this spent exactly two lists outside the Top 10: after their lists were inserted. This one didn't really look like it could have won, but it did well enough to earn its spot, and this could have flown a little higher.

We have three remaining, and we have our three highest Top 10 numbers coming up.
#3 holds a so far rankdown high nine Top 10 rankings. Six of those are in the Top 3...and half of those are #1s. I honestly didn't realize this until now, but this is the only song in the entire rankdown that held more than one #1 ranking. Now, with nine Top 10s and three #1s, why does this finish at #3? Only one other person put this inside their Top 20. A total of five people ranked this in the bottom half, but one of those is low.
This song was a pretty constant Top 10 holder, but it took a bit to get there. This never broke into the Top 2, as our #1 and #2 held there pretty well, but this was looking like an easy Top 5 contender once it got going.

welp Degausser is fantastic. admittedly not one of my favorites off the album, but still a raw, emotional song that packs a punch. definitely landed a spot in my top 10.
as for the winner, i think Tame Impala has this, this is my 4 v 5 so really happy with either winner

#1 vs. #2 Let's get it. - Twenty-one Top 10s remain with our final two here – one has 11 and the other has 10.
- Only four bottom half rankings are still around.
- There are two bottom 10s left.
- These have the 11th and 16th lowest standard deviations.
- Both of these never left the Top 10.
- More impressive, one of these never left the Top 3 (it spent one list at #3 – the rest at 1 or 2).
- One of these songs wins it all.

Thank you to everyone who participated! It's always fun to throw my music tastes in your face. :) I hope everyone found stuff here to enjoy and songs they discovered. I loved putting this list together because, for the most part, it was songs I love that would never get their chance in other rankdowns. There were some parts I didn't agree with ("Ends of the Earth" at like #24, smh), but I wasn't expecting "In Chains" to win, so that was a fun surprise. For the future, there will be a follow-up to this. There's a list floating out there right now, but the list isn't final because I noticed not all of the songs there are on Spotify. I might replace those with something new, but I haven't decided. Before "Indie", Vol. II, there will be a rankdown for everyone's favorite band: Nickelback. I'll be opening that up sometime in the future, but I'm unsure when. Thanks again everyone!

I haven't been keeping up with this that closely.
Oh, my top 2 are already out. :(
I said earlier that it was a tie between the two of them and it was hard to pick. Both of them were first listens, but the best kind of first listens. I was in the middle of a really bad breakup with my boyfriend, and the lyrics to Degausser moved me to tears. "Goodbye to love. It’s just a ride that will push you up right against the wall." "I can't shake this little feeling, I'll never get anything right." "Life is a test and I get bad marks." I had held it in for most of the song, but those vocals were so intense. I felt that pain in his voice, and the instrumentation on it only heightened the emotional tension. I don't like heavy songs, but this is how to create actual emotional intensity in a song using heaviness rather than just mindless screaming. I broke down at the last line - "You're my favorite bird, and when you sing. I really do wish you would wear my ring."
"I Can Feel a Hot One" was the more traditional slow, sad ballad song. It wasn't anguished and tortured like "Degausser" was, but it was still effective on its own right. The opening verse set the tone just right. Sparse instrumentation and vocals that sounded like he was on the verge of crying too. I was crying with him. As it picked up, the emotions only became more intense. It's not been a great few weeks for me lately, so I felt these songs. Indie music ain't just the elitist hipster crap I thought it was. Problem is I'm looking for bops and club bangers from my pop queens and it just ain't the same. It's a more artistic, deep statement and I may not vibe with it all the time but I can vibe with it when it's done well even though it ain't my style.

10. Agent Fresco - HowlsThere is one song that shows up on the tournaments from this band, that is pretty cool, this one isn't it tho. This one is a bit to be fierce with the guitars, and that's what I like about it. 9. Bob Moses - Before I FallAt least I kept this out of the top 5. This is a great example of music I don't like one bit. 8. Deaf Havana - FeverThis was pretty good. I started liking songs in my top 24 and up. I also find this singers vocals to be good. 7. Foals - A Knife in the OceanThis wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that great either. This wasn't "Mountain At My Gates" great, that's for sure. 6. Gang of Youths - The Heart is a MuscleNot bad. Pretty decent AAA guitar work, but that's about it. 5. The Temper Trap - FaderNow this is a great song. Easily in my top 10. The chorus and oohooh's in between. The mini guitar solo puts the icing on top. I think this is one of those songs I missed out on when it was on the charts? 4. Lo Moon - LovelessMore like "lifeless". This is another of example of a Doc Indie Party Rock , no no in music. 3. Brand New - DegausserI didn't exactly boost my NRG button, but I do admire great sounding guitars, Percussion and vocals. The shouting really touched me. 2. Tame Impala - The Less I Know the BetterGreat to see one of my top 10's in the top 2. This had all the ingredients I like in Indie music. The groovy bassline is most important, Good melodic vocals and rhythm guitars seal the deal for me. I really wish this one had won. 1. The War on Drugs - In ChainsYou guys have a mean hard on for this band, don't you?. I like their music compositions, but I cannot get into his tones 100%. perhaps if he had the vocals of the Tame Impala guy, this song would have been in my top 10? Anyway, there were some really cool songs here. I would say, that the only ones I really couldn't stand are those that fell under my #36.

Aww I was hoping In Chains wouldn't upset. The whole top 4 was in my top 8 so that's cool but I was hoping for three perfect rankings.

I have no words. Those tanking rankings on "Loveless" were why I expected it to finish lower than it actually did. But goodness, look at all of those high rankings. Top two was the predictable two I thought it would be, and "In Chains" was the one song going in that I thought had a chance of beating Tame Impala. Oh, and would you look at that? My #6 wins ANOTHER James rankdown. As always, a great rankdown hosted, James, and you know that I'll be there to participate for the next one-- looks at the next planned James RD...well, this day was coming, eh? Alright... buckles up and straps myself in

tLIKtB would've been my #1 & while i like "In Chains", i probably would've put it at around #10 which means the point difference would've given Tame Impala the win - so you guys can blame me as usual, great job on the song selection & the reveals Pollen
