I'm just gonna say it. This album does absolutely nothing for me and I hate that. As much as I like Scotty and his previous albums (not all songs but a good enough amount from each album) the fact that I can not get into this album makes me mad since I was really looking forward to it.
I was given that survey to help decide his next single (shoutout to fan page) and I was little worried since most songs they picked didn't seem strong enough (for me) to follow up 5MM. They had boys from back home (love the instrumentation) home in my mind, in between, this is it and out of them I figured In Between would get picked (Scotty has mentioned it several times and the lyrics seem good enough) but I loved Home In My Mind and hoped it would win. I really thought This Is It was just terrible (which makes me feel like shit to say since it's their engagement song).
I was worried after hearing those songs for the album and yup here I am wondering how the hell I couldn't like his album.
The album isn't terrible but it's not something I would listen to for a new release.
Also biggest disappointment is Barefootin' I love his fun songs and I was really looking forward to hearing some "Carolina style beach songs" but I'll pass.

Solid 6.5/10
I like this album but I really wanted to love it. There really isn't any awful songs, it just seemed to me that half of them are decent and the other half are good. But to me their isn't really any amazing songs on this album. That could change over time as I've only listened once.

I like this quite a bit. I've been looking forward to it for a long time and I wasn't disappointed.
A little disapointed with This Is It as a single choice though - Wherever You Are, In Between, Boys From Back Home, and Home in my Mind are all much better songs. Hope This Is It doesn't have a slow chart run so some of these other songs can see the light of day.
Seasons Change: 7/10 Wherever You Are: 8/10 Boys From Back Home: 8/10 Five More Minutes: 9/10 In Between: 8/10 This Is It: 5/10 Wrong Again: 8/10 Move it On Out: 6/10 Barefootin: 6/10 Still: 7/10 Home in My Mind: 9/10

I really like this album and the fact that he did it his way. “Barefootin’” & “Move it On Out” are the only fillers on this album but hey I’ll take them! His best asset is definitely his voice and he knows it. {Spoiler} Before seeing the credit for Wrong Again I was secretly hoping it was a Martina McBride cover

Very early first week prediction from HDD is 27-32k pure sales and 32k-37k SPS.

I got to listen to "Seasons Change" a number of times over the weekend. What I like about it is that you could tell that Scotty is living those songs. There is much more soul and sincerity to his singing compared to his previous album eras. There is also improvement in the lyrical content.
But in terms of production work, I think 'See You Tonight' is still a superior album. I also revisited that album and realized that it could have been a breakthrough for him had UMG played it right: "Forget to Forget You", "Feel Good Summer Song", and "Carolina Moon" should have been singles.
Nonetheless, I am still thrilled to see Scotty becoming his own person and artist in this new album. I think there is enough material to give him a string of hits. "This Is It", "In Between", "Home In My Mind" are my bets for singles.
PS: I just wish Scotty re-recorded "Forget to Forget You" and included it in the new album. The smash that never was!

Listening to the album now. I am shocked at the outcry for "This Is It" - I love it!

Updated prediction of first week sales of 34-37k pure sales and 39-42k SPS. Good. It went up. Like it should. Maybe Billboard will have higher numbers this Sunday.

PS: I just wish Scotty re-recorded "Forget to Forget You" and included it in the new album. The smash that never was! Honestly that album was stacked with potential singles...shame that things went sideways at that time. I think re-recording a couple of those and releasing one (Forget to Forget You is one of the best songs he has imo) would have made this album the extra bit more than many are looking for. I don't think it helps whenever the best tracks are the pre-release tracks. Because then you go into the album with a raised expectation and it is hard to meet that. If I hadn't heard "In Between" and "Home in My Mind" before the album was released I would probably have felt it was a better album, but the double edge sword of that is the lack of buzz those songs created that may have been the reason someone checked out the album in the first place.

#1 country, #7 top 200 album with 34,000 sold. Congratulations, Scotty McCreery! Yes, those numbers you said were close but Scotty actually sold 34,400 physical albums, 40,400 total consumption to land at #1 with this record. I was conservative with my estimate in the 20-25k range but knew his fans would probably help him do better than that. It's also good for the still growing label as Russell Dickerson's record hasn't sold but around 20k to date (but s+s is probably closer to 50k).

There hasn't been much in the way of mainstream country album releases in 2018 thus far, but Scotty's 40k debut is definitely the most impressive start of the year to date. Quite impressive.
