Jack White On Course for Third No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With 'Boarding House Reach' News By Keith Caulfield | March 26, 2018 9:32 PM EDTJack White is set for his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. His third solo studio effort, Boarding House Reach -- which was released on March 23 via Third Man/Columbia -- may launch with around 120,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 29. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new April 7-dated Billboard 200 chart (where White could debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, April 1. White topped the list with his two previous solo studio albums, Lazaretto (in 2014) and Blunderbuss (2012). Boarding House Reach’s debut will be driven largely by traditional album sales, and much of its sales figure will likely come from sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with White’s U.S. and Canada upcoming tour. The trek starts on April 19 in Detroit. Further, it’s also expected that the new album will see robust sales for its vinyl edition. Lazaretto bowed with 40,000 vinyl LPs sold -- the largest sales week for a vinyl album since Nielsen Music started tracking sales in 1991. Boarding House Reach might be the only debut in the top 10 next week, as the next biggest bow could come from Toni Braxton’s Sex & Cigarettes. The latter may start in the top 30 with around 15,000 units. Sex & Cigarettes is her first solo studio album since 2010’s Pulse, which debuted and peaked at No. 9. In between the two albums, she released the collaborative effort Love, Marriage & Divorce with Babyface in 2014, which topped out at No. 4. www.billboard.com/biz/articles/8262278/jack-white-on-course-for-third-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-chart-with-boarding

Jack White's 'Boarding House Reach' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart
White's third No. 1, following 'Lazaretto' and 'Blunderbuss,' starts with the biggest sales week for a rock album in 2018.
Jack White claims his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as the rocker’s third solo studio effort, Boarding House Reach, opens atop the tally.
The set -- which was released on March 23 via Third Man/Columbia Records -- earned 124,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 29, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 121,000 were in traditional album sales -- the largest sales week for a rock album in 2018.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new April 7-dated chart (where Boarding House Reach debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, April 3.
White previously topped the Billboard 200 with his last two studio sets: 2014’s Lazaretto and 2012’s Blunderbuss. The former launched at No. 1 with 138,000 copies sold (before the chart transitioned to an equivalent album units-ranked list in late 2014), while the latter bowed also bowed with 138,000. (Both figures are rounded to the nearest thousand; in its debut week, Blunderbuss sold slightly less than Lazaretto’s opening frame).
Boarding House Reach’s launch of 121,000 copies sold marks the second-biggest sales week of 2018 for any album, trailing only the bow of Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods, with 242,000 sold in the week ending Feb. 8. Boarding nets the biggest sales frame for a rock album since U2’s Songs of Experience (180,000 in the week ending Dec. 7, 2017).
White’s debut, the only new arrival in the top 10, was boosted by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with White’s upcoming U.S. and Canada tour. The trek starts on April 19 in Detroit.
As for White's history on the Billboard 200 as part of his former duo, The White Stripes, the act landed three top 10s in 2003-07, reaching a No. 2 high with 2007's Icky Thump.
In addition, Boarding House Reach racked up a big sales figure from its vinyl LP: 27,000. The handsome performance was expected, considering how White is a champion of the format. The album’s vinyl sales represent the fourth-largest week for a vinyl set since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991.
At No. 2 on the Billboard 200, XXXTentacion’s ? falls a spot in its second week, with 76,000 units (down 42 percent). Black Panther: The Album is steady at No. 3 with 48,000 units (down 10 percent) and The Greatest Showman soundtrack climbs 6-4 with 47,000 units (up 15 percent) following its digital home video release on March 20.
Migos’ Culture II is a non-mover at No. 5 with 45,000 units (down less than 1 percent), Logic’s Bobby Tarantino II falls 4-6 with 33,000 units (down 30 percent) and Post Malone’s Stoney rises 10-7 with 29,000 units (down 2 percent).
Rounding out the top 10: Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) is stationary at No. 8 with 29,000 units (down 6 percent), Imagine Dragons’ Evolve returns to the top 10 with a three position rise to No. 9 with 25,000 units (down less than 1 percent) and Camila Cabello’s Camila ascends 13-10 with 23,000 units (down 2 percent).

Jack White Earns Fourth-Largest Sales Week for a Vinyl Album in Nielsen History With 'Boarding House Reach'
News
By Keith Caulfield | April 02, 2018 1:53 PM EDT
As Jack White tallies his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Boarding House Reach, he does so with the fourth-largest sales week for a vinyl album since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991.
In the week ending March 29, Boarding House Reach sold 121,000 in traditional album sales, and of that sum, 27,000 were on vinyl LP. The handsome performance on vinyl was expected, considering how White is a champion of the format.
White’s own Lazaretto continues to hold the record for the biggest vinyl sales week in Nielsen Music history, with 40,000 sold in its debut frame (the week ending June 15, 2014). The album has shifted 120,000 copies on vinyl in total, of its overall 397,000 copies sold in all formats (vinyl, CD, downloads, etc.)
Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy is in second place, with 34,000 vinyl LPs sold in its debut frame (week ending Nov. 27, 1994).
Notably, Vitalogy was available only on vinyl in its first two weeks of release, an unusual move, considering the format had been out of fashion for years at the time of the set’s debut. Still, the band was a big fan of vinyl and wanted to issue the set initially on the format. (Bonus fun fact: the album includes the song “Spin the Black Circle,” an ode to vinyl.)
Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament told Billboard at time of Vitalogy’s release: “Years ago, when the record companies decided they were going to go with the CD format and phase out vinyl, there were a lot of people that listened to records that were unfairly taken out of the loop. I was one of those people.”
Vitalogy has sold 105,000 copies on vinyl, of its overall 4.8 million copies sold.
In third place for the biggest sales week on vinyl in the Nielsen Music era: Adele’s 25 with 31,000 sold during the final week of the 2015 Christmas shopping season — the week ending Dec. 24, 2015. That was the album’s fifth week of release, and one of six weeks in which 25 sold more than 10,000 vinyl copies. In total, 25 has moved 199,000 copies on vinyl, of its total 9.4 million sold.
25 also owns the fifth-largest vinyl sales week, as the set tallied 22,000 vinyl copies sold in the album’s opening week (ending Nov. 26, 2015).

Jack White Tops Billboard Artist 100, Thanks to 'Boarding House Reach' Debut
By Xander Zellner | April 04, 2018 10:14 AM EDT Jack White
Plus, Shawn Mendes returns to the top 10 & Toni Braxton debuts.
Jack White re-enters the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated April 7) at No. 1, becoming the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to his third solo studio album Boarding House Reach, which debuts atop the Billboard 200 with 124,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
The Artist 100, which launched in July 2014, measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
White is the fifth solo artist to re-enter the Artist 100 at No. 1 and the second this year, following Eminem (Jan. 3).
White previously peaked at No. 22 on the Artist 100 in 2016. He also reached No. 32 as a member of The Dead Weather in 2015. Notably, the Artist 100 hadn't launched when he released his previous two solo albums, Blunderbuss in 2012 and Lazaretto in 2014, or, before that, while he was a member of former duo The White Stripes.
Album sales account for all of White's Artist 100 points. Boarding House Reach was boosted by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer tied to White's upcoming U.S. and Canada tour. The trek starts April 19 in Detroit.
Closing out the Artist 100's top five, Ed Sheeran rises 3-2, Imagine Dragons jumps 5-3, Drake holds at No. 4 and XXXTentacion plummets 1-5.
Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes enters the top 10 for the first time since September, leaping 15-6, as his latest singles "In My Blood" and "Lost In Japan" shine on the Billboard Hot 100. The former vaults from No. 72 to No. 22, while the latter debuts at No. 64.
Plus, Toni Braxton debuts on the Artist 100 at No. 48, as her eighth studio album Sex & Cigarettes bows at No. 4 on R&B Albums and No. 22 on the Billboard 200 (16,000 units).

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Drake's 'Views' Spends 100th Consecutive Week on Chart
News
By Keith Caulfield | April 06, 2018 7:00 PM EDT
Plus: Moves, debuts and returns from Led Zeppelin, Toni Braxton, Chloe x Halle and Billie Eilish.
On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated April 7), Jack White notched his third No. 1 in-a-row on the tally, as Boarding House Reach bowed atop the list. It earned 124,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 29, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 121,000 were in traditional album sales -- the biggest sales week for a rock album in 2018.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:
-- Drake, Views -- No. 24: Drake’s Views spends its 100th consecutive week on the Billboard 200, as his former No. 1 rises 42-35 (13,000 units; up 1 percent). Views debuted atop the list dated May 16, 2016 and has never left the top 100 in its nearly two years on the list. (Meanwhile, Drake’s most recent release, 2017’s No. 1 More Life, spends its 54th straight week on the list, climbing 28-24.)
Views has earned 5.41 million equivalent album units, of which 1.73 million are in traditional album sales. The set’s songs have collected 4.39 billion on-demand audio streams.
-- Led Zeppelin, How the West Was Won -- No. 98: The rock band’s most recent No. 1, the live archival set How the West Was Won, returns to the list following a remastered reissue on March 23. The effort, which debuted atop the list back in 2003, comes back to the tally at No. 98 (its first appearance on the chart since 2003) with 7,000 units (up 4,035 percent). The bulk of that sum was driven nearly entirely by traditional album sales.
The album’s remastering was supervised by the band’s Jimmy Page, and the set was available as in a variety of configurations: three CDs, four vinyl LPs, Blu-Ray Audio, along with streaming and digital download versions. It also arrived in a new super deluxe box set with the three CDs, four LPs, a DVD audio version of the album, a book and a print of the original album cover.
