Meant To Be: first song to reach 40k spins on Kworb's radio updates since Shape Of You. Before SOY? Uptown Funk in 2015.

Man I am so bored of the charts I don't see how you guys can be so bored when we're getting mass debuts every other week. Especially ones that aren't expected. It's the Hot 100, not the Hot 1. If you're getting bored, it might be smart to look beyond the top few positions.

just last year drake was nowhere to be found on the charts and now he's like a itch that won't go away. I assume you mean specifically the second half of last year. Because Drake broke the record (again) for the biggest week ever when More Life dropped.

Yeah, I don't get people saying the charts are stagnant right now. In terms of turnover, 2018 is actually doing pretty well so far.

The charts should be just a reference for what is popular with others.
Personally that is all it is to me
Music is never boring

The Longest-Leading Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s Just 3 percent of all Hot 100 No. 1s have led for 10 weeks or more. Just 2 more 10 week hits away from Billboard needing to check their math as it stands now, 36 out 1071 is 3.4%, Once this hits 3.5% they will have to round up

^Another thing to point about that stat is that only 2 songs managed that before Nielsen SoundScan's introduction as source of data for the Hot 100, so just over 33 years. Since then, we've had a total of 34 songs with 10 or more weeks in just over 26 years, which is just over 1.3 songs per year.

yeah, I bring up variations of that every time
I think the magazine, pulls out the old articles and does a cut and paste job. That will only work for so long.
Nothing magical about 1958 other than a chart change, if you include back to 1955, Elvis did it too

I think you should mention Neilsen BDS, too, as the introduction of airplay monitoring had as big (if not bigger) of an effect on the Hot 100 since station playlists were unreliable. Anyway, the point you make is valid. They obviously are giving that % as hyperbole of sorts, to make it seem dramatic and newsworthy. But we know it's no longer even news.

Drake loses 7-8 million streams a week. He's now below 15 million on Spotify and below 30 million on YT. It's coming to an ENDt.

I agree that the chart hasn't been nearly as boring this year as it has been in the past, it seems like almost every week there's at least one new entry in the top 10. There were so many times last year when no new songs made the cut. I guess we're just all frustrated with "God's Plan", of all songs, going #1 for so long (which, after spending a week looking after a group of kids, I totally get now - they wouldn't stop playing it!! "Look Alive" too). Also how "Finesse" keeps getting screwed over. xD I am slowly trying to convince myself to just get with the times; hip-hop is the big thing now, and it's mostly uninspired in this era (IMO, they all sound the same), it might not be for long. It gets frustrating when so many songs I like don't make top 10 or #1 in lieu of so many songs I dislike. This must be what soccer fans feel all the time about their teams and rival ones. But there has indeed been a good turn-over, and quite a variety of genres and artists over the last year, especially in these few months of 2018.

Not so much Kendrick, I quite like him, but Drake and Migos? Absolutely, especially with their own catalogues - meaning, Migos' songs, for example, they're all very similar to me. With Drake, it's more lyrical than musical, but still "Fake Love" sounded like "Hotline Bling" etc. And every song of his is about the fake people he surrounds himself with... He really needs to get better friends or go into seclusion. And Migos' vocal effects (those woot-woots or whatever), I know I spotted them elsewhere, pretty sure even Pharrel used them. I have a problem, I'm not big on unoriginality and I'm also not big on change. I hated "No Excuses" right away because it's the same basic theme of every Meghan single, three albums in. I haven't warmed up to "The Middle" because it reminds me of "Stay" so darn much. Yet I hated the 'Lemonade" era because I just wanted fun, catchy, radio-friendly Beyoncé. Which means that, yeah, I probably shouldn't generalize artists and their sounds. But it's the rare hip-hop song of the decade that I have actually enjoyed, they all seem so dull to me, I don' find them catchy, singalong-y nor meaningful, so that's why I said that.

I thought you were saying hip-hop as a genre sounds alike lately, didn't realize you meant specific artists within the genre make music that sounds like their other songs.
