It's unfortunate that this is off to such a slow start, but I'm not too surprised since their momentum dwindled so much by the tail-end of their debut era and then they disappeared for nearly two years. They need to re-establish themselves at country radio, and I think it could still happen with this song or perhaps something else down the road, but it's definitely going to be quite the uphill battle, it seems. This song is fantastic and deserves better. I hope it can stick around and be a slow climb to the Top 30 at least.

I am glad this re-entered. I will be bummed if this flops, it's definitely my favorite single of theirs at this point. It is a great song.

I love these girls to pieces. I think they are insanely talented and their debut album is one of the best debut albums bar none.
But this? Egh. This doesn't quite have that spark that their debut album had. The lyrics are so basic. Maddie sounds bored out of her mind singing this. The production is so boring and this whole song just sounds so sleepy.
I was really hoping they would continue with the sound they had with their debut album, which was very neo traditional pop country blend. But I'm not gonna lie this disappointed me the first time I heard it, and still has on subsequent hearings of it.
I wouldn't be shocked or opposed if this flopped. I want these ladied to succeed but above all else I want music that I like to succeed more than the artist and I don't like this song.

I mean early fall is like October. If this is on top by October, I will start selling ice to Eskimos.

I actually like this song, and I love Maddie & Tae, but I think this might have been the wrong choice. The song lacks a catchy hook, it's far from a original idea, not really a summer song, etc. Having heard some of the demos and live versions of the material they have written since last album can't help but to feel they might have had other stronger choices. If they were going to go slow song I think One Heart To Another is a much superior song, if they wanted something a bit more summery "Just Fine" or "Blame It On The Tree" are slightly more uptempo. Time will tell, but my guess is that this one might be top 15 more about mid winter.

This doesn't stand out in the way that "Girl in a Country Song" did (for obvious reasons), but "Friends Don't" literally sounds like it could've been slotted into the tracklisting for Start Here. I don't see it how it's in any way a departure from their previous music stylistically at all, and I don't feel like it's lacking in the lyrical department either. I think the premise of the song going through these things that people who are 'just friends' don't do is a strong concept and I love the hook and find that it works well. Unfortunately they were going to have an uphill battle no matter what they released because they're basically starting completely over with country radio.

For what it's worth, they had a free show in Richmond, VA last Friday. Hopefully, they got a good size crowd there.

I really can't stress enough how little I care. ETA: Also what matty005 said.

I do hear a minor sonic change from their first album but not enough for me to really think anything about it other than maybe they're working with a new producer or something along those lines.
I wouldn't say this is their best single but it's growing on me so so much compared to my first listen where I didn't really care for it. I think it's their vocals that keep drawing me in.

This song isn't bad but for me it is just kind of "there." I loved their debut album and while I agree that this could fit on that tracklist, it is more similar to the weaker songs off that album than the stronger ones.
I like the idea behind this but it is missing something that a lot of their other songs had...I can't quite put my finger on it.

I don't hear any songs sounding like the first album. I think their sound was drastically changed after they were dropped from Dot.

One thing I really like about this is that the lyrics are completely gender and orientation neutral. It could be sung by a girl or boy to a girl or boy without changing a single word. Not something seen often and should help with relatability.
