Also, people need to remember if it wasn't for Boom Boom Pow we probably would have never gotten such masterpieces as Like A G6. I'm so grateful

Has anyone here heard every single Hot 100 #1? I'd think that'd be interesting, and I'd love to hear the opinion of worst #1 from someone who actually has. I have. And there have been plenty of bad #1's in every decade since the 50's.

(Meaning it may have not been bad then, but is it a complete humor now) :kii:

Jeez, did Bruno strangle a puppy on camera and upload it to youtube yesterday? He lost over 10m AI for both Finesse and TWIL.

Has anyone here heard every single Hot 100 #1? I'd think that'd be interesting, and I'd love to hear the opinion of worst #1 from someone who actually has. I have, but I don't know what the WORST one would be. But yh, like other people have said, there's been crappy music every decade, as well as unjusticed gems that should have been #1. It's just that, in my own opinion, so many of the "crappy" songs people have pointed out aren't that bad. I lowkey love "Disco Duck" or "Yellow Polka Dot Bikini". xD And I'm sorry but "The Chipmunk Song" should be the American national anthem, if not the world's anthem. More bad #1's though: like some people said, "Mr. Custer", but also add "Big Bad John" and "Ringo". These spoken-word songs are boring as hell. And I hate the first two number ones by the Four Seasons, "Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry", which I find so grating, but then love "Walk Like a Man", even though I'm sure it could be just as annoying. Also not big on the two #1's by the Staple Singers, "I'll Take You There" and "Let's Do It Again". Hard to believe so many forgettable acts had multiple #1's when the likes of ABBA, Aerosmith, James Taylor or, heck, even Miley Cyrus, only had one apiece - let's not even get into the many legends who could never hit the top.

Just to clarify, kworb wasnt counting "Urban AC" in total AI, that's the reason a lot of songs of the format lost a lot of AI.

When it comes to my least favorite #1, I’m not sure sure if anything will ever top My Ding-A-Ling for me in the “Oh god, WHY?” category. Listening to a song about a kid asking people to play with his dingaling just feels... gross. Even if I know in the back of my mind he’s referring to a toy.

And there have been plenty of bad #1's in every decade since the 50's. I have as well For this discussion, we should remember what a #1 song actually is. It is #1 and most popular for the week in time it represents. For that week the biggest song in the country. Being a # song does not necessarily elevate the song above others for all time. In many cases the #1 song got to #1 because it was the right song for the pop culture, fads, styles and events of the day. In most cases, what is popular today will not be popular tomorrow. Styles change, opinions change, times change, many songs do not hold up well over time simply because they were written for the time they became popular. So it is no wonder that in this thread and its companion thread in YOP, dozens of songs are being mentioned.

I can...in a time with 3 channels and thirty percent of the country would frequently watch the same show, you get your song performed on one of the biggest music shows of the day, on a show seen by more people than American Idol (at its peek), you're gonna have a hit.

There are crappy number ones from every era though...those novelties from the 50s and 60s, bland generic ballads from the mid 70s and 80s, those simple tuneless songs from the mid 00s hip-hop domination, the generic dance tunes from the turbo-pop days. We only remember the good stuff and the bad/forgettable songs are eventually lost to time.

I own and know them all. “Disco Duck” gets my vote. But it’s all subjective - millions loved it back in its day. And they would have thought “God’s Plan” was a joke it was so bad. So it really depends on context.

Those are some poor numbers for Nicki, but those songs haven't had any real promotion aside from videos. No radio adds or TV performances or big Spotify banners promoting it, so it's fair that they wouldn't be performing very well.

In my opinion, One More Try by Timmy T is the worst #1 hit. I'm just baffled on how an extremely bland song like that got on top of the charts. What do people back then see in that song?

Well, Finesse had a good run. #3 peak and 15 weeks in the Top 10 is pretty damn good for a fourth single, I hope it doesn't fall off the Hot 100 very quickly.
