Kinda late about the Ariana thing but I feel like people are just ignoring the fact that you don't have to debut at #1 in order to get to #1. Just because Drake's dominating that slot now doesn't mean she won't have the chance to get there if she doesn't make it in the first week.

I didn't know about that record Mariah held. Also, I had to laugh at "a handful" of songs.

Drake Equals Elvis Presley for Fourth-Most Hot 100 Top 10s Among Solo Males News By Gary Trust | April 17, 2018 3:41 PM EDT
Drake notches his 25th top 10 as "Nice for What" launches at No. 1. As Drake's "Nice for What" rockets onto the Billboard Hot 100 (dated April 21) at No. 1, the 6 God ties the King of Rock and Roll in the race for the most top 10s among solo males in the chart's history. The track marks Drake's 25th Hot 100 top 10, tying him with Elvis Presley for the fourth-most among male soloists. (Presley's run of hits predated the Hot 100's origin by two years.)
Here's an updated count of the solo males with the most Hot 100 top 10s, dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception. Most Hot 100 Top 10s Among Solo Males 29, Michael Jackson 28, Stevie Wonder 27, Elton John 25, Drake 25, Elvis Presley 23, Paul McCartney 21, JAY-Z Notably, Paul McCartney made even more trips to the top 10 as a member of The Beatles, who earned 34, a sum second only to Madonna's 38; Rihanna ranks third with 31 top 10s, followed by Michael Jackson's 29. Similarly, the Jackson 5/Jacksons, of which Michael Jackson was a member, totaled 11 top 10s as a group. Beyond top 10s, Drake extends his record for the most overall Hot 100 entries among solo acts to 162.

This reads like a fucking parody of the Hot 100 threads since 2016, oh my goodness. Streaming is the number one way people consume music, so it only makes sense that it would comprise the most points out of all of the components. Digital sales are laughably terrible with the top track getting around 50k these days, which is about what the number one would get in 2005. I'm sorry if the kids these days aren't into the same music as you, but that's just how it is and complaining about it for the billionth time isn't going to change that.

If you start the clock at 1955, rather than at mid-1958 Elvis Presley has 38 top 10's, tying with Madonna and would still be way out in front on the male-solo list.
(Note, Joel Whitburn says 38 hits, other sources have him at 37 --- depends on how you measure it though)

This happened the week Mariah got the 18th #1. Prior to 'Touch Me Body' going to #1 in 2008, Elvis had long been credited with 18#1's and 38 top 10's by Billboard. It was then argued that Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog was one record and not two songs Then early on in this decade to tout HOT 100 achievements as opposed to rock-era, Elvis numbers are reduced again by 10 #1' and 13 top 10's - even today.

I think Ariana will get close to #1 but won't get it. Psycho will go #1 when Post Malone drops his album and then Drake will return to the top. If Ariana's song sticks though I can see it going #1 later.

Moby Scores First Hot 100 Entry Since 2001, With A$AP Rocky
The "Porcelain"-sampling "A$AP Forever" marks Moby's first entry since "South Side," featuring Gwen Stefani. Moby makes his first visit to the Billboard Hot 100 in 17 years -- and his second ever -- as A$AP Rocky's "A$AP Forever" debuts at No. 65 (on the chart dated April 21). The song features Moby's vocals from the singer's Play track "Porcelain," with Rocky crediting him as a featured artist.
"A$AP Forever" drew 11.4 million U.S. streams and sold 7,000 downloads in the week ending April 12, according to Nielsen Music. The song earns Moby his first Hot 100 appearance since "South Side," featuring Gwen Stefani, which peaked at No. 14 in May 2001. The track doubled as the first of Stefani's 17 solo Hot 100 entries to date.
"Porcelain" never reached the Hot 100 after its July 2000 release, but hit No. 11 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart and No. 18 on Alternative Songs. Despite his lengthy Hot 100 break, Moby has maintained an active presence on Billboard charts. He's scored 16 total entries on Top Dance/Electronic Albums since his debut in 2002. His new set, Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt, reached No. 6 (March 17).
Moby also charted his fourth Adult Alternative Songs title, and first in 13 years, in January with "Like a Motherless Child," which reached No. 33 in February.

Does this have to do with whether the double-sided single Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel is counted as one or two singles? This happened the week Mariah got the 18th #1. Prior to 'Touch Me Body' going to #1 in 2008, Elvis had long been credited with 18#1's and 38 top 10's by Billboard.

I remember it being the other way around, that most sources (including Billboard) and even before Touch My Body, credited Elvis with 17 #1's and 37 top ten hits. I clearly remember that when Don't Forget About Us hit #1 in 2005, the media widely reported Mariah "tied Elvis's record of 17 #1's," and that when Touch My Body hit #1 in 2008, she was credited as beating him. That last achievement was pretty big news, because that was also the same week Madonna's 4 Minutes reached #3, and she was widely reported as "tying Elvis's record of 37 top ten hits." I think there was only a minority of sources, probably affiliated with his Estate or labels, that counted Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog as separate singles, and thus 18 #1's and 38 top tens.

There shouldn't be this much confusion, honestly, about Elvis' count. We all said, rather recently, how we have different ways of looking at the pre-Hot 100 #1's, I for one said that I count with the ones from the best sellers list, but the fact of the matter is there was already an all-encompassing top 100 dating back to November 1955 that comprehends, along with the Hot 100, all of Presley's career. And he had 7 #1's on that list; with the 7 he had on the Hot 100, he has 14, the same as Rihanna, not the same as Mariah or just under her.
Top 100:
Heartbreak Hotel Don't Be Cruel Love Me Tender All Shook Up (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear Jailhouse Rock Don't
Hot 100:
A Big Hunk o' Love Stuck on You It's Now or Never Are You Lonesome Tonight? Surrender Good Luck Charm Suspicious Minds
There. Problem solved. I wouldn't know about top 10 hits, don't have a source for that, if anyone does I'd appreciate it greatly.

Obviously Elvis sites dispute it, yes you are correct. Joel Whitburn counts the Elvis songs as 18 not 17, and 38 not 37 --- Paul Haney who posts here can probably shed some light as to why they record it that way. The guy who does the Wiki stats page calls it 18 (not that this makes it right - LOL) As an AT40 listener in the era where Billboard was the source - it was 18 #1's I don't have it in front of me but there was a point when it was 18#1's not 17 - whatever, a good exercise for another day - LOL If you flip it around what is a solo #1? There were indeed 3 Mariah #1's not solo. Regardless, Mariah has 18 in the "Hot 100 era", Elvis does not.

One fun fact on the Elvis discussion
Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog was indeed #1 for 11 weeks
but on the chart for the first 5 weeks (from 8/18/56 to 9/15/56) the record was listed as Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel
then for the following 6 weeks, the record was listed at #1 as Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog (9/22/56 to 10/27/56)
All irrelevant anyway because it occurred in 1956 - LOL
