(Source: allmyinstincts.tumblr.com/post/108258910339/kate-bush-performing-wuthering-heights-1978)Ok, I don't have any more ideas for rock-specific rankdowns, but I wanted to keep the decade theme going. So I figured I'd branch out a little to pop, and in particular, to a decade that basically has been given no quarter in rankdowns to this point: the 70s. Because boy, did pop kick ass in this decade. And I was stunned to find out what hasn't been used yet. These songs are some of my favorites that were released in the 70s and qualify, however loosely, as either mainstream or pop (or both, of course). The list spans everything from soul to piano rock, baroque pop, glam rock, disco, new wave, funk, southern rock, pure pop, hard rock, folk pop, soft rock, reggae, jazz rock, synthpop, power pop, country, etc. I really tried to include something for everyone. Acquaint yourself with these songs thoroughly, then PM me your ranking of all of them from best (#1) to worst (#50). You don't have to tell me if you used a preferred alternate version to rank a song. Leave the artist names in or not, either way is fine, but be sure to number them. After sending your list, you may make changes to your ranks up to 24 hours before the deadline. This time I'm using a "stroke play" scoring system; I think it'll be easier on me. I've also thought about doing a disco rankdown at some point, but it may end up being in multiple volumes and only consisting of my favorites instead of what truly defined the disco era.

Looks like there's some good stuff on here. I still hate that I missed out on the 90s rankdown, but I think I'll be able to do this one no trouble. I'll have more free time and already know more of the songs.

I'm familiar with most of these songs, so I'll do it, but it might be a while before I submit a list, because I might be attempting my first rankdown soon. I still need a few more participants for my rankdown, though.

Excellent selection! Count me in.
I like that you picked Killer Queen instead of other obvious Queen hits.

have to admit that i'm biased toward the end of the decade with the advent of punk & new wave making their way into the mainstream...& i'm quite disappointed that "Pop Muzik" & "My Sharona" weren't included here...but overall, a great selection & wide variety

This RD is including one of my favorite songs ever! I love the 1970s variety, and even though there are many other songs that are big favorites of mine as well (eg songs from Eagles, Kansas, ELO), this list is quite varied and interesting to trigger my interest. Will keep it in my to-do list

oh... I didn't notice when I first read the list... Joan Manuel Serrat - Mediterráneo? Great choice! Curious to see where it would end up.

4 weeks from the current due date! in the form of Pale Shelter's ranking, I received a submission quicker than in either of my previous rankdowns, so that's a good sign. (he actually sent before I had even made a list of my own; I proceeded to add mine a couple days ago)

3 weeks from the current due date! This week, I received the third submission, in the form of Mirago's ranking (again, easily my fastest rankdown to multiple submissions). As it is early, he shook things up quite a bit. Not doing a full-on ballot update, but to get a small picture of how unsettled the results are still: we're down to just two songs with all top 10 rankings and only one with all bottom 10 rankings; as well, various songs moved up or down as many as ~15 spots! So get your ballots in soon if you want to be a part of this exciting action.

Also, At the moment, you are wearing a What's Going On avatar. Still sure you don't want to attempt a rankdown with "What's Going On" in it? Hope you don't mind that I came back to this. Nothing meant by this reply being so late, but I am sort of curious now, because it's possible your opinion might have changed.

Like my previous rankdowns, I'm going to post a grouping of "extras" every so often; these can be songs that came close to making the final list, songs I came around on too late, or songs that fill in gaps in the playlist's picture. However, I'll be posting them before the rankdown starts this time (perhaps daily), both because sometimes people are tired by the end of a reveal set--which means the extras don't get due attention--and because this is a content-rich way to keep the thread on the first page. If people submit in between postings, I'll also mention highlights of how they've affected the numbers. For instance, our fourth submission comes from ★Disco★. The insertion of his rankings entailed quite a few major shifts, including one song jumping all the way from the bottom 10 to the top half, and a former #1 falling out of the top 15. The current #1 has a lead of 11 points, and only the top 19 still have under triple digits. Now, let's get to it: our first extra. I found this song on the compilation Pomegranates - Persian Pop, Funk, Folk and Psych of the 60s And 70s. It's sung by an Iranian actress who had a pretty active career in this decade, prior to the Iranian Revolution. EXTRA

The fifth submission comes from newpower. He actually didn't shake things up too much, but he put into stark relief a couple of neat stats. First off, those two songs I mentioned earlier as having all top 10 ranks? Yea, this is still true. One of them, obviously, is leading the pack, but oddly, the other song is losing a tie for #2! He did, however, make sure there are no songs with all bottom 10 ranks, though this did not change the overall #50. The streak of all users having a unique 1 is broken, but everyone still has a unique 50. Alright so, here's extra number 2. I have a few disagreements with the legacy of The Velvet Underground. I generally like them, and I think the self-titled third album is a classic, but I think VU&N is kind of pap. Also, out of all the member's solo careers (not counting Nico, although she did made some good albums herself despite me not liking her VU collab), I may enjoy John Cale's better than Lou Reed's. This is probably the crown jewel of Cale's solo outings. It was originally on the rankdown, but I removed it to make room for songs with more recognition. But make no mistake, this album continues to be influential on orchestral-tinged arty pop. EXTRA
