Done; given how much I haaaate 80's Madonna I've surprised myself how high I put one of her songs here (and I mean high).

I've been wanting to do one of these but I haven't found the time. With this extension though, I might be able to give this a shot. I'm surprised at how many songs from this list I already recognize.

Just submitted my list. It was a fun experience, lots of songs that I haven't heard in years (ever since we had an 80s station down here back when I was like 9 lol). My #1 was also a big reason why I did this rankdown, an underrated gem that I had no idea charted (much less made a year-end Hot 100 list) that I fear will get robbed in here.
Here's how I rated my list: #1-2: 10/10 #3-4: 9/10 #5-9: 8/10 #10-26: 7/10 #27-55: 6/10 #56-70: 5/10 #71-80: 4/10 #81-88: 3/10 #89-95: 2/10 #96-100: 1/10. I have a special place in hell for the artist behind my #100, and the songs between #96-99 were songs that I hated so much that I couldn't even get through them in full.

FALSE. That's a low blow Slappy, even for you. :sip2: The truth doesn't care where it lands :sip2: . Anyway, I knew instantly what my #100 would be for this (and for the '87 one too). Both are definitive 80s songs that might be my two least liked signature hits of the decade (even more than the Wham! song from the previous one). Like I haven't liked them since I first heard them when I was 5 or 6.

Finally done!! As suspected, another great musical experience :) Only a handful of songs that I didn't know or recall... and they stayed ended up in the bottom of my RD anyway lol. In any case, one of the things I found most interesting is the wide range of songs that I liked almost at the same level. I felt that the songs in the 60-80 range approx were almost interchangeable. Same with 26-60 range, and the 10-25. Unlike 1983-85, though, there were only a handful of clear top songs for me. In other years, the entire top 15 was tough to rank. I do love the fact that I found a few songs that had underperformed in my personal ranking in 1986 but have become big favorites with time. It'll be very interesting to see the results. Unfortunately I know I have to be prepared to see good songs by the likes of Elton John, Peter Cetera, Chicago, Survivor, Lionel Richie, Toto, leave soon Hopefully the massacre will not be in the bottom 10 at least. Also, it seems it'll be another good chance to share with Doc Indie Party Rock some nostalgia of 1986 songs that are not on this RD And a good chance to help Az Paynter repent of his Madge sins!! Look forward to the reveals!

"There are a total of 24 of us taking part in this rankdown, the most ever for an 80's list!"
I could see why! I think this is my fave 80s list by far. So many classics I grew up with!

Putting the finishing touches on my list, meanwhile If you ever wondered what my brand of party dance music was? Check out these Hi -Energy classics. These would have been super high on my list. Stacey Q - We ConnectPeople Like Us - Midnight LoverMike Mareen - Love SpyDead Or Alive - Brand New LoverTyrants In Therapy - Too Tuff To CryLatin Lover - LaserlightFun Fun - Baila BoleroGene Loves Jezebel - Desire Erasure - Oh LΒ΄amour The Psychedelic Furs - Heartbreak Beat Ken Heaven - The Calling
OK! - Baila Bolero was a personal chart-topper (just like Color My Love) and a song that I've always kept in my iPhone. It would've definitely been in my top 30 of the year.. - Oh L'amour wasn't popular back home in 1986.... Erasure's first hit was Chains of Love... however, in 1990 radio stations back home put in rotation two live songs from the Two Ring Circus, which became big hits: Gimme Gimme Gimme --and Oh L'amour (both personal chart-toppers). So I personally associate them with that year :) - Brand New Lover peaked around #15 in my personal chart. My 3rd favorite from DoA. - We Connect barely made my personal chart, peaking around #30. I kinda saw it as a lesser version of Two of Hearts... I hadn't heard Heartbreak Beat or Desire --I've just downloaded them, though :) Cool!! I remember hearing couple songs of both bands back in the day, but I had completely forgotten about them. Good reminder!! I may have heard Love Spy and Midnight Lover before. Not sure. In any case, I've also downloaded them as I love that type of hi-energy sound. Thanks for sharing!

A few more hits from 1986 some of you will recall. These are a few songs I became acquainted with while we were in Europe.
Niagara - L'Amour A La Plage French SynthPop band with a style resembling Sade. very classy.
Indochine - Tes yeux noirs One of my favorite New Wave bands of the 80's while we were living in France. There style is very much what inspired Rock en Espnaol
Images - Les DΓ©mons de Minuit French New Wave band. This song was #1, while I was in France ,That summer.
a-ha - Hunting High And Low This gorgeous ballad was also a big #1 in the Europe continent
Kim Wilde - School Girl Huge Pop hit in Denmark, but also very popular on local radio stations in France.

Let the fun begin...the first song we will see leave the rankdown is a duet (the same thing happened in the Billboard 1984 rankdown).
1: PSB, Steve Winwood, Human League, Sade & Prince should all be in the Top 10 if not Top 5 2: all of the sappy ballads 3: Madonna or Janet? 4: Doc 5: "Friends & Lovers" has to be #100 based on the description

2. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the bottom-5?I hope: Alive And Kicking what the fuckAnyways, I'll throw in some answers: 1. What songs do you expect to see in the top-5? "West End Girls", "Kiss", "Your Love", "Take My Breath Away", maybe one of the Janet songs or "How Will I Know"? 2. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the bottom-5? "Friends and Lovers" is a lock. Some of the other ballads ("That's What Friends Are For", "All Cried Out", "On My Own", "There'll Be Sad Songs", etc.) will probably fill up the rest. 3. Which artist/group will have the most Top 40 entries? Janet 4. Which Pulse member is going to have a meltdown first based on the reveals? Drindie, maybe?

1. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the top-5? Hope: Something About You, Sweet Love, Addicted to Love, Sledgehammer, Alive and Kicking Expect: How Will I Know, Nasty, Papa Don't Preach, Kiss, Addicted to Love
2. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the bottom-5? Hope: Party All the Time, Friends and Lovers, Your Wildest Dreams, Say You Say Me, Object of Desire Expect: Words Get in the Way, Friends and Lovers, That's What Friends Are For, On My Own, We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off

4. Which Pulse member is going to have a meltdown first based on the reveals? I remember Doc seemed pretty even keeled in Gravey's rankdown, so Samba?
5. Friends and Lovers (would be more than OK with this).

Oh my, I'm already getting concerned after reading some posts here >:( Anyway. Top 5?: Hope these include songs in my top 10 for sure, so I won't say :) Expect: Kiss, Nasty, West End Girls, Live To Tell (only one of this is in my top 5 though..) Bottom 5? I hope/expect some of the R&Bish songs leave early on, but I can also see some unfortunate casualties like Words Get In The Way, There'll Be Sad Songs, Sarah, That's What Friends Are For also leaving soon Most Top 40? I vote for Madonna!

Before the RD begins, I also wanted to share a few songs that were end-1985 / early-1986 hits back home and in my personal chart --but were not in the Hot 100 of either year :(( most of these songs would've made my top 50 of 1986!
- Gambler (Madonna): This was the Song of the Summer in Peru's #1 radio station. A bit of a surprise, but Madonna was just THE top artist back home (LAV, MG, ITG had already been huge hits, and DYU, Angel, CFY were also hits.. 1985 was a huge year for Madonna, and she'd continue into 1986...
- Invincible (Pat Benatar): After the success of We Belong and The Ooh Ooh Song (which was supported by a version in Spanish that made Pat heard in Spanish-only radio stations as well), Pat got a medium-sized hit back home and a personal top 5 with this song from the soundtrack to The Legend of Billie Jean, that I've kept as recurrent in my iPhone :)
- Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann (Nena): After the BIG success of 99 Luftballoons and the moderate popularity of Just A Dream, Nena got a mid-size hit with this song. A personal top 5 as well that I still use and would've been in my top 50 of the year.
- When You Were Mine (Cyndi Lauper): This song extended Cyndi's life in our charts back home, after the 5 other She's So Unusual singles and the Goonies song, all of them big hits back home. WYWM's intro was used as theme song of a popular TV spot that promoted a line of colorful sneakers "inspired" by Cyndi's fashion. This was a key factor in making the song an official single that reached the top of charts back home --and became her 6th lead in my personal chart! (Plus, of course, this was another Prince-penned song)
- Together in Electric Dreams (Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder): Back home this was the follow-up to Goodbye Bad Times (I believe the opposite happened in most other countries?). GBT was a song in minor rotation, but Together became a more successful hit -and a personal top 5 that I love hearing... I remember hearing this live by Human League several years ago and having a blast dancing and singing to the top of my lungs :)
- Hurts To Be In Love (Gino Vanelli): This was a top 10 back home and in my personal chart in early 1986. It hasn't aged extremely well, but I still have a soft spot of it
And now a few late-1985/early-1986 songs that were not hits at the time but I've grown to like significantly better with time -and they would've definitely been in my top 50 of the year:
- There Must Be An Angel (Eurythmics): Would I Lie To You didn't do much back home... but this song got in high rotation in the beginning of 1986. Unfortunately it didn't really chart in any of our weekly rankings, or in my personal chart, but with time it became a personal favorite, and also a popular hit back home. This is a sure top 30 for this year now.
- Secret (OMD): Enola Gay got into a few charts back home in 1985, although just as a minor hit. Then Secrets also got into rotation. It didn't reach my personal chart and barely got in the bottom tier of a couple of radio stations, but this is another case of a song that I've grown to love with time. Another top 30 contender...
- Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush): This had low rotation back home, although the rock radio stations played it more often. This was a bit too left-field for me at the time, but in the late 1990s I rediscovered it and really appreciated its uniqueness.
- Soul Kiss (Olivia Newton-John): This made a brief dent in my personal chart, but it was a flop back home. This may be one of the clearest cases of a change of image that didn't work, as she tried to sex up her image -and change her style- maybe a bit too much. I've grown to like it much better with time.

1. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the top-5? Gloria Estefan's Conga (gotta represent Miami in the building), Anita Baker, Janet, Cameo, and Human League's Human (beautiful song)
2. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the bottom-5? Paul McCartney, Elton John's Nikita, Eddie Murphy, Friends and Lovers, and a few rocks songs I genuinely don't care for.
3. Which artist/group will have the most Top 40 entries? either, Janet, Madonna, or Whitney.
4. Which Pulse member is going to have a meltdown first based on the reveals? ...

I didn't know that about When You Were Mine - Juanca, great list!
I was also going to add Eurythmics', Missionary Man as a glowing omission from this list but Round and Round mentioned it earlier.

This was a monster debut in Canada from an unusual artist that year. CΓ©line did a technically superior cover nearly a decade later, but many feel that the original is the more memorable version.

1. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the top-5? "Human", "Higher Love", Addicted To Love" "Kiss" 2. What songs do you expect/hope to see in the bottom-5? I'm just wondering if you will all tank a rap song, because it rocks? :kii: 3. Which artist/group will have the most Top 40 entries? Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna. These rankdowns are so predictable. 4. Which Pulse member is going to have a meltdown first based on the reveals? me, if you all tank songs that you deem cheesy ,too sexy, or just too damn fun for pulse? some members are going to tank a shiny classic here, based on lyrics s**t. I know it? I f**king know it?

This was a monster debut in Canada from an unusual artist that year. CΓ©line did a technically superior cover nearly a decade later, but many feel that the original is the more memorable version. OH YEAH!!! This song wasn't played in our pop radio stations --but I saw the video a few times in one of our UHF TV stations that used to play videos in the evenings. I LOVED IT and it entered my personal chart. It only went top 15 (as my chart that year had a popularity component besides my personal preference component), but later on in my list of 1980s hits this ended up performing pretty well. To be honest, I love Celine, but I prefer Jennifer's version. Her tone and the instrumentation work perfectly in my opinion. By the way, an additional detail regarding TPOL is that in 1986 a Spanish cover was released by popular Dominican singer Angela Carrasco (who had arguably had the biggest hit of her career in 1985, but had released a few classics since the late 1970s): "Si Tu Eres Mi Hombre Y Yo Tu Mujer". Interestingly, this version did become a hit in Spanish-speaking radio stations in 1986:
