jenglisbe, Whitney's "Thinking" was eligible for the Hot 100. Any single back then was, unless it was strictly a 12" vinyl. (and even that rule bent depending on the chart manager)
It didn't chart because - as 85la suggested - the Hot 100 in 1985 had no radio input from r&b stations (It was deemed too small an audience - and there were no real rhythmic stations back then,) Also pure r&b singles did not sell well. Clive at Arista clearly sent TAY just to Urban radio to firm up Whitney's r&b base in the face of pop fare like How Will I Know and Greatest Love of All (and perceived backlash)

Loving those predictions - as in, they seem to promise nice things for several songs in the coming weeks. No album bomb is expected anytime soon, is it? When does Drake release his?

Sad that we don't have a 3rd album bomb this week to keep Perfect out of the top 10. Soccer moms (AC Radio) really love his songs.

Radio may be why his songs linger, but they do have tremendous sales success. Shape of you and perfect are two of the three 2017 songs that have sold 2million+

Potentially one of my all-time fave top 10s! Another solid top 10. I like all songs here, but only love half of them.

I did not expect such numbers from This Is America 38.7 MM U.S. YouTube music video views for the song are probably the most surprising number.

Still can't believe it's been 10 years since "Bleeding Love" topped the Hot 100. Where has the time gone? :x

Thanks. When this, Rockstar, and Havana were all battling for the #1 spot, I thought Havana would die off first and Perfect soon to follow, with Rockstar staying in the top 10 for months after. I guess it's the opposite now lol.

I guess it's the opposite now lol. In terms of weeks in the top 10 it's close: Perfect 26 (counting this week - May 19), rockstar 25, Havana 23. Rockstar has the advantage in weeks at #1, top 2, top 3, and top 5, tho.

I think it will start to get overlooked over Better Now and Ball For Me. Never Be The Same will probably reach 30-35 weeks with its huge airplay it has. Very surprised Ed hasn't released a fourth US single yet.
