That was before all formats were included, though. That total was actually pretty huge for 1993 considering it was from a limited panel. “Dreamlover” was #1 Hot 100 Airplay for the year despite its full chart run not counting since it was still charting when the chart year ended. Since Billboard added all radio formats to the Hot 100 Airplay in 1998, Pink's Blow Me One Last Kiss had one of the lowest #1 AI totals, around 93 or 94 million iirc, but I don't know if that was the lowest. Found this: I always wonder what caused them to reweight the formats at the end of the 2000s, and why they never discussed it. #1's at radio just went from doing 150-225 million to 85-125 million through 2008-2012, out of nowhere |

Delicate keeps gaining on radio each day 😁 I'm hoping delicate can keep rising on BB100 a top 10 is stretch but top 20 is also good .

I always thought that was due to the bottom finally falling out of the huge Rhythmic / Hip-Hop ratings after an almost 10 year stranglehold.
This in turn led Pop to migrate away from those sounds, and build their own hits, thus wiping away those huge audience levels.
Maybe not?

You Don't Know My Name reached #1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay with 93.4 million in 2004. Now: To go from 93 million for a #1 to 33 million means they definitely had to have massively change format's audience numbers, instead of there being a lack of crossovers. Literally almost 3x smaller numbers for the #1 today, still wonder why they never talked about why they cut down the numbers so big. |

If Nice For What returns to #1 this week, I think it will be the first song (since Billboard created its Streaming Songs chart - Jan. 26, 2013) to lead the Hot 100 despite not being in the top 2 of any metric (sales, airplay, streaming).

As for airplay audience numbers changing over time, I don't think it's so much how they calculate the numbers or that they "rewrite the formula," I think it's just that audience levels change over time for various reasons, both in terms of overall listenership and proportionally for different formats. For instance, overall listenership seemed to go down from the early 2000s to the late 2000s, up sharply again during the early 2010s, and now slightly down again.
