Self-titled set could earn Mendes his biggest week ever in both units & album sales.

Shawn Mendes is on his way to a third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters.

Those in the know suggest Mendes’ new self-titled album, which was released on May 25 via Island Records, could earn over 165,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 31. Of that sum, traditional album sales could comprise over 135,000. Both figures would represent new highs for Mendes.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the June 9-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Mendes’ new album will debut) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, June 3.

Mendes’ new effort is his third full-length studio set, and it follows Illuminate (No. 1 in 2016) and Handwritten (No. 1 in 2015). He’s also charted with two live albums (MTV Unplugged; No. 71 in 2017 and Live at Madison Square Garden, No. 200 in 2017) along with his debut project, The Shawn Mendes EP, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 in 2014.

If Mendes’ new album starts as expected, it will log the pop singer-songwriter his best week in both overall units and album sales. His previous high-water marks were earned with Illuminate, which bowed with 145,000 units (with 121,000 of that in album sales), according to Nielsen Music.

Other albums aiming for top 10 bows on next week’s Billboard 200 chart include A$AP Rocky’s Testing, Pusha T’s Daytona and Chvrches’ Love Is Dead.

Shawn Mendes’ new self-titled, third full-length studio album bows atop the Billboard 200 chart, scoring the pop singer-songwriter his third No. 1. The set — which was released on May 25 via Island Records — launches with 182,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 31, according to Nielsen Music. Of that figure, 142,000 were in traditional album sales. Both sums represent new highs for the artist.

Mendes also debuted at No. 1 on the chart with his two earlier full-length studio sets: Illuminate (in 2016) and Handwritten (2015).

The new June 9-dated chart (where Mendes debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, June 5.

Here’s a look at some notable achievements Mendes claims with his album debut:

Mendes’ Best Week Ever: With Mendes’ sizable start, he tallies his best week ever in units and sales. He surpasses his previous high-water mark, logged with the No. 1 debut of his last studio set, Illuminate, in 2016. That effort bowed with 145,000 units, of which 121,000 were in traditional album sales. (Like Illuminate, Mendes’ new album was boosted by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer.)

2018’s Second-Largest Week for a Pop Album: Mendes’ bow of 182,000 units is the second-biggest week for a pop set in 2018. It trails only Justin Timberlake’s No. 1 arrival with Man of the Woods (293,000 units; Feb. 17-dated chart).

Second-Largest Streaming Week of 2018 for a Pop Album: SEA units comprise 34,000 of Mendes’ overall starting unit sum. As each SEA unit represents 1,500 on-demand audio streams, that means Mendes’ album earned 50.3 million streams for its tracks in its opening week. That’s Mendes’ biggest streaming week ever, and the second-biggest streaming week for a pop set in 2018, following only the debut frame of Timberlake’s Man of the Woods (37,000 SEA units, equaling 55.2 million on-demand audio streams).

Third-Youngest Artist to Earn Three No. 1 Albums: As Mendes is 19 years and 10 months old, he becomes just the third solo artist to collect three No. 1 albums at such a young age. Just two acts notched their first three No. 1s at younger ages: Justin Bieber was 17 years and eight months old when he topped the list with his third leader (Under the Mistletoe, in 2011) and Miley Cyrus was just 15 years and eight months old when she collected her third No. 1 (Breakout, in 2008).

Fifth-Biggest Sales Week of 2018: Mendes’ sales bow of 142,000 copies sold is the fifth-biggest sales week of the year. Ahead of it: the debut weeks of Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys (153,000), Jason Aldean’s Rearview Town (162,000), J. Cole’s KOD (174,000) and Timberlake’s Man of the Woods (242,000).

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Post Malone’s former No. 1 beerbongs & bentleys is a non-mover with 104,000 units (down 15 percent).

Pusha T notches his highest charting album yet, as his third studio set, Daytona, debuts at No. 3. The seven-track album bows with 77,000 units, of which 39,000 were in traditional album sales. Interestingly, unlike most hip-hop albums lately, over half of Daytona’s starting sum was powered by traditional album sales. SEA units represented 36,000 of its overall launch. But, since Daytona only has seven tracks, the album’s SEA start is still impressive, as it collected 53.8 million on-demand audio streams for those seven songs during the tracking week.

Pusha T previously visited the top 10 once before, with My Name Is My Name, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 in 2013.

Coming in at No. 4 on the new Billboard 200 is A$AP Rocky’s Testing, bowing with 75,000 units (album sales represent 13,000 of that figure). SEA units drive the debut, as the album starts with 60,000 SEA units (89.3 million on-demand audio streams). It’s the third straight top five-charting effort for the hip-hop star, following a pair of No. 1s: At.Long.Last.A$AP (in 2015) and Long.Live.A$AP (2013).

Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy holds steady at No. 5 on the new Billboard 200, tallying 47,000 units (down two percent).

BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear falls from No. 1 to No. 6 in its second week with 46,000 units (down 66 percent).

Lil Baby’s Harder Than Ever slips 3-7 in its second week with 45,000 units (down 36 percent).

At No. 8, hip-hop artist Juice WRLD nabs his first top 10 with his debut studio set, as Goodbye & Good Riddance jumps seven spots in its second chart week with 43,000 units (up 84 percent). The big rise is owed to the album logging its first full tracking week, after debuting on the list a week earlier from only two days of activity (the set was released on May 23, during the tracking week that ended on May 25).

Rounding out the new top 10: The Greatest Showman soundtrack falls 6-9 with 43,000 units (down 2 percent) and

J. Cole’s KOD dips 7-10 with 37,000 units (down 9 percent).

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Billie Eilish's 'Don't Smile at Me' Hits New High

On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated June 9), Shawn Mendes notched his third No. 1 album, as his new self-titled set arrived atop the list. The project earned 182,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 31, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 142,000 were in traditional album sales. Both figures represent new weekly highs for Mendes.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:

— Billie Eilish, Don’t Smile at Me – No. 97 — The set breaks into the top 100 for the first time, as it rises 121-97 in its 21st week on the list. The effort tallied its best week yet, as it earned 7,000 units (up 10 percent). Don’t Smile at Me is likely reaping the rewards of Eilish’s exposure on her new collaboration with Khalid, “Lovely,” from the 13 Reasons Why: Season 2 soundtrack. (However, “Lovely” is not on Don’t Smile at Me.)

— Imagine Dragons, Evolve – No. 17 — After 49 weeks on the list, the album has yet to leave the top 20. On the latest chart, it rises 20-17 with 21,000 units (up 1 percent). So far, the set has earned 1.7 million equivalent album units, of which 585,000 are in traditional album sales. The album is currently enjoying its third top 20-charting hit single on the Billboard Hot 100, as “Whatever It Takes” shifts 17-18, after previously peaking at No. 12. Earlier, the set launched the top 10 hits “Believer” (No. 4) and “Thunder” (No. 4).

— Maroon 5, Red Pill Blues – No. 38 — Thanks to the success of the album’s “Girls Like You,” the set rebounds into the top 40 with a 75-38 climb (13,000 units; up 53 percent). “Girls,” now featuring Cardi B, debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 94 and is bubbling under the threshold of the Pop Songs airplay chart.

— Soundtrack, Solo: A Star Wars Story – No. 61 — The film’s soundtrack arrives at No. 61 with 10,000 units (9,000 from traditional album sales), and also bows at No. 1 on the Classical Albums chart.

The new movie is set in the Star Wars universe, but it’s not part of the main Star Wars saga of films.

The Star Wars saga has launched eight films thus far, and its most recent release was 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The latter movie’s companion album debuted and peaked at No. 12 in January 2018.

All eight of the main Star Wars film soundtracks have reached the top 20, with six of them hitting the top 10.

Two spin-off prequels — Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — reached Nos. 61 and 29, respectively.

Post Malone's 'Beerbongs' Boasts Most Weeks at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in 2018

The set is the first to spend its first five weeks atop the list since 2014 and first by a male act since 2002.

As Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys spends its fifth week at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (dated June 9), it becomes the first album since 2014 to spend its first five weeks at the top.

Before beerbongs, Beyonce’s 2013 self-titled LP was the most recent album to log as much time in charge out of the gate. The set spent its first eight weeks at No. 1 in December 2013 – February 2014, and later grabbed two additional weeks at the top in March of that year.

Among albums by male artists, beerbongs records the best start for any set in more than 15 years. Eminem’s The Eminem Show was the last LP to rent the penthouse for its first five frames on the chart, dating to its No. 1 entrance on June 8, 2002. The album latter grabbed a sixth week in charge that September.

Beerbongs has maintained its momentum largely through streaming. The set broke the one-week U.S. streaming record among albums in its first seven days, exploding to 431.3 million on-demand audio streams for its songs in the week ending April 27. Through its first five weeks, beerbongs has tallied at least 127 million combined on-demand audio streams each week for its 18 songs.

Beerbongs contains six songs that have reached the top 10 of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, including the No. 1 smash single “Rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage, which ruled for 14 weeks in 2017-18. Current single “Psycho,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, returns to its No. 2 peak on both the current Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Billboard Hot 100 charts. Now in its 14th week on both charts, “Psycho” has yet to depart the top five of either list.

Post Malone’s beerbongs, however, isn’t his only album making an impact. His debut LP, Stoney, is steady at No. 8 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and collects its 70th week in the chart’s top 10. The album, already in second place for the most weeks in the region, inches closer to the all-time record of 76 weeks, earned by Michael Jackson’s Thriller in 1983-84.
