I heard "The Art of Losing" quite a bit at the time. Not as often as "Flavor of the Weak", which got tons of airplay, but it was in rotation on one of my LAUNCHcast stations.

40. In This Diary - It’s a nice pop-punk tune, a little cheesy but enjoyable. Too bad that it and “The Saddest Song” got overshadowed by that cover.
39. The Taste of Ink - I was actually expecting this to be their highest ranker, but I agree with the order of their three songs here, and this is a good ranking for this song. This one’s rough emo edges are softened by great melodic verses and choruses, and an overall anthemic quality. Plus I’m glad “The Bird and the Worm” is no longer their highest ranker as I really don’t like that one.
38. Save You - I didn’t care for this one at all. It sure didn’t deserve to have a higher ranking than “Amongst The Waves”. Now get rid of my #79 and I’ll have everything below 55 cleared.
37. Just Because - This actually might be my favorite from Jane’s Addiction, who I’ve never been super into. Just a great alt-rocker, and brings back memories of Lollapalooza 2003. Glad it did fairly well.
36. What It Is To Burn - More concert memories, this band performed at my college. Not normally my style of music, but this band really clicked with me, and this song in particular resonates.
35. Fine Again - One of the better songs from one of the better post-grunge bands. I wouldn’t have minded this reaching #31 in order to become their second-best performer, but I also wouldn’t have wanted it much higher than that.
34. Signals Over The Air - Great song from my hometown boys. Wouldn’t have minded this reaching top 20, but I’ll take this.
33. Innervision - Another great one from the only nu-metal band I really love (unless you count Incubus). I actually do find it kind of surprising that *this* SOAD song would get bottom 10’s, as it’s quite tame by their standards.
32. Honestly - Love this, too bad Billy Corgan couldn’t keep this quality up after he “reformed” the Pumpkins.
31. You Know You’re Right - It was so great to have some previously unheard Nirvana in the mix with all those post-grunge pretenders. I was hoping for a little better from this, it may not be as polished as their biggest hits but it still displays their patented mix of raw energy and passion with a melodic sensibility.
30. Blue and Yellow - I’m very impressed with how far this made it. It’s only a few spots below where I put it, and absolutely deserves to be their best performing single.
29. The Hardest Button to Button - This has grown to be one of my favorite Stripes songs over the years. Was hoping for a little better.
28. The Leaving Song Part II - I like the other two singles from this album more, but it’s still a good song that I’m fine with having in the top 30.
27. Way Away - Solid song, I do love the extra something the violins bring to their sound, but this was starting to overstay.
26. The Boys of Summer - I never cared for the original, and I kind of resent this being much bigger than the non-cover singles from the album, but it’s a well-done cover and gives the song some much-needed energy.
EXTRAS: Live got way too sappy with “Heaven”. (I did like “Run Away” from this album.) “Volvo Driving Soccer Mom” was Everclear’s “Hit That”. “True Nature” is solid but I can see why it wasn’t embraced by radio. As for the Good Charlotte song, it’s mostly generic teen angst, but LOL at them swearing they’re real punks and acting all tough in the second verse.

My dad flipped his shit when he heard they changed "Deadhead sticker" to "Black Flag sticker" and changed the station immediately. Granted he's one of the biggest Grateful Dead fans in the world so that was obvious in hindsight.

31. You Know You're Right - Nirvana I'm glad some of you rralize how bad this fucking band really is? John Nirvana(I've being dying to say this), sounded especially bad here. Was he drunk? Who cares. The song is downright ugly. End of story.

40. In This Diary - The AtarisAt least it crept into the top 40, but you people need a serious Poppunk kick in the ass. 39. The Taste of Ink - The UsedFUCK! I knew it. The wrong one out first. American Idiot has a good looking top 10, it's just falling victim to Pulse voters. 38. Save You - Pearl JamNot terrible, but seriously, They just phoned this one in. 37. Just Because - Jane's Addictionremember when I put one of thier songs in my top 5? I learned my lesson quick. Anyway, I love this one. Very glamy, but not one of their best. 36. What It Is to Burn - FinchI remember digging this a lot more when it was on the airwaves. Now? Not so much. 35. Fine Again - SeetherDecent enough "Boost" Grunge ballad., but it still just misses my top 50. 34. Signals Over the Air - ThursdayKind of run of the mill music to me. Didn't exactly inspire me to grab my barbells. 33. Innervision - System of a DownThis should have been an intrumental. Those vocals were bad with a capital "B". 32. Honestly - ZwanI really dug this back in the day. This is one, that sounds like fine wine. 31. Drunk ass John Nirvana
oh look at that I still have some bottom tens in this game. :kii: 30. Blue and Yellow - The UsedThe vibe of this song is majorly boring. 29. The Hardest Button to Button - The White StripesThis is good garage rock. I really thought, Top 20. Especially with this bunch. 28. The Leaving Song Pt. II - AFISaw the name and almost had a heart attack. I'm glad it's this song. Sorry, but not even Davey will get free pass with me. 27. Way Away - YellowcardSorry but this isn't the uptempo sing a long Yellowcard, song I downloaded. 26. The Boys of Summer - The AtarisI'm ok with this rank. Unpopular opinion, but I think this cover is more fierce.

EXTRASHeaven - Livecan't believe how poorly this did on the alt chart? Anyway, easily one of my top songs of the year. Arctic Snow - Burning BridesFUCK what was that? Download? Check> Volvo Driving Soccer Mom - EverclearI wonder how quickly I would have lost this one, if I had put it in my top 10? The Art of Losing - American Hi-FiAnother favorite of mine. Obviously, Influenced by "Longview". True Nature - Jane's AddictionDamn! I love fierce guitar in Alternative music. The Young and the Hopeless - Good CharlotteIt would have been hopeless for me to put this song, as high as I would like?

Good evening, everyone. It's time to see what songs just missed the top ten. Let's do this!
Oh, wait, what's that? We're starting with a reveal? No hint? Why?
...
Oh, it's THIS one. Well, can't we do a hint for it?
...
...sigh, okay, fine, no hint. But you just want me to reveal it with no buildup and no fanfare?
...
This doesn't really seem like me. Then again, I did reveal "Bring Me to Life" out of nowhere, so I guess it's not TOO out of the ordinary.
Congrats on clearing your bottom ten, Lordef†ones and Pipa.
My condolences, Daryl the Beryl, @humanshazam, and rowellfarm490. Didn't even get to the level of "Bodysnatchers"...that bodes well for them over the next couple of years, eh?25

Well, that was a "fun" reveal, eh? That's just the beginning of tonight's big reveals. One of the few bands to not lose a single song yet will lose one here. #24 never left the top 30, and outside of a couple of rankings, it spent pretty much every ranking in the top 25. It was in the top ten on different occasions, with its last appearance being fairly late in the process.
All but six posters ranked this song in their top half. Of those posters, 2/3 (or 18) ranked it in their top 30, 1/3 (nine) ranked it in their top 20, and six went a little further and ranked it top ten. Of those top tens, three are top fives. One is losing their first top ten here. This song doesn't even have a bottom 20 ranking. It does have a bottom 30, but it's not a particularly low one.

#23 spent time in the top ten early, was promptly flushed out of the top 20, and bounced in and out of the top 20 for the rest of its run. Like "Cochise", it was in the top 20 until fairly late in the rankdown.
Though nobody ranked this particular song in their bottom ten, one did rank it in their bottom twenty. Three other posters joined that poster with a bottom thirty ranking. Around 3/4 of the rankdown participants ranked this song in their top half, meanwhile, with all but five of those posters ranking it top 30. Thirteen of the 24 posters who ranked it top half also ranked it top 20, and a whopping nine of those posters placed this song in their top ten. Two top fives are lost...one of which is a #1.

#22 spent time in the top ten early. It also spent time below the top 30 early...and a little later on in the ranking process. Beyond that, though, this song spent most of its time in the early twenties, particularly spending time at #21 and #22 late.
Only two posters even ranked this song in their bottom thirty, but they're both bottom twenty rankings. All but five posters ranked this song in their top half, on the other hand. Of those posters, twenty ranked it in their top 30 and eleven in their top 20. Only three posters ranked it in their top ten, however, and none are top fives. Here's a fun fact for you: This is the last song in the entire rankdown to not have a top three ranking. In fact, it's the last song to not have a top five ranking.
