Mariah's lead is really amazing. She is ahead of everyone by far, even the Beatles, and I don't see how anyone can beat her anytime soon, if ever. This really shows that she is possibly the most successful female charting artist of all time, even more than Madonna, who isn't even on this list.

What would these look like if we only counted the primary artist for each song and don't count the Featuring/And spots?
And Beyonce's seems to be inflated by 6 weeks anyway you cut it. I think that might come from Ed Sheeran's "Perfect"? But that seems to be contrary to what all the archives show of her never being credited as part of the song.

Beyonce' being credited on "Perfect" for as long as she was so annoying to me. The main version was getting way more points for every week minus the first possibly second week, she was very lucky to get those extra weeks credited. Also Drake is catching up fast, very impressive for him to have that many weeks at #1 considering he only has 5 #1 singles.

How does that work? She use to be credited. Billboard credits her for five weeks. The archive is wrong, they should fix it to avoid confusion.

They have her on at least one print version, and bring her up in at least one of the preview articles, which was the error that they already fixed in the online version. Probably because the Beyonce remix wasn't the more consumed version during any of the weeks. But can't be certain. I just know that they went out of their way to remove Beyonce from the credits to the song. Either way, Beyonce certainly doesn't have 42 weeks at #1. Even in the print version.

As with other lists, if we start at 1955 instead of 1958, this list will look different

Remix was definitely the most consumed in the first week. And I remember that she was credited in 5/6 weeks. I highly doubt they would go back and erase those credits, it seems like the archive is lacking a feature allowing it to show 1 song with different crediting at different times.

I highly doubt they would go back and erase those credits, Well you can suspend your doubt because they specifically went out of their way to change the credits. Probably in an attempt to fix an error quietly without drawing attention to the fact that they were previously wrong. Erratum 12/30 chart: web.archive.org/web/20180101221501/https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100Corrected 12/30 chart: www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/2018-01-03And it isn't totally unheard of. They also fixed "Nicki Minja" on that Lil Uzi Vert song last year. And they fixed "Too Hotty" being credited to "Quality Control". And there were a few instances of the charts coming out with new songs being credited to "Unknown Artist". I believe Kesha was officially credited as a featured artist on "Right Round" at one point. But she currently doesn't appear to be. As for the yearly "archive" pages, you may be correct about them being unable to separate one song into two different credits. But that would be irrelevant, since "Perfect" is not credited to Beyonce for any week.

Well I checked Wikipedia and she is credited for 5 weeks according to their #1s of 2018 page Attachment DeletedSo I’m sure she was previously credited. I guess it’s possible that they could have erased this crediting but it just doesn’t seem right...

^ They could have taken away the credits not due to a typo or clerical error or anything like that. It could be political, after considering all types of industry and methodological pressures, maybe they decided they didn't want her to keep them.

It'll likely just take Drake 1 or 2 more albums to catch up. He's been getting number one hits at over 9 weeks at number one for so many times in just the past few years.

If you include Elvis' stats from April 1956 (when he scored his first #1 "Heartbreak Hotel" on Billboard's pre-Hot 100 singles chart) onward, he comes out with 79 total weeks at #1; same as Mariah. But once again, these days Billboard acts like everything that happened before the Hot 100 came along (at best) wasn't important, or (at worst) didn't happen. It's a truly bizarre attitude.

Yeah but the gap is still 42 weeks, so that is still a very tall order to overcome, even in this day and age with #1's spending more time at the top. For instance, he would have to have like 4 more 11-week #1's, 3 more 15-week #'s, etc. Artists don't just keep churning out 10+ weekers year after year after year like that, and someone like Drake has probably already reached his peak or will very soon anyway. I'd say Rihanna has the best shot, but still a very weak one, because her career has probably peaked as well. Someone could eventually beat Mariah, but it would probably be someone new or who doesn't exist yet and it would take several more decades.

If drake lasts 3 decades, as the biggest legends have (Madonna, Mariah,) he should easily be able to beat that record.

With "Feelings" continuing its Hot 100 command, Drake passes Usher for the most total weeks at No. 1 among solo males: 48. Among all acts, Drake also claims a solo share of fifth place. Here is a look at the artists to spend the most time at No. 1 (and their number of leaders) in the Hot 100's 60-year history:
79 weeks, Mariah Carey (18 No. 1s) 60 weeks, Rihanna (14) 59 weeks, The Beatles (20) 50 weeks, Boyz II Men (five) 48 weeks, Drake (six) 47 weeks, Usher (nine) 41 weeks, Beyoncé (six) 37 weeks, Michael Jackson (13) 34 weeks, Elton John (nine)
