None of these songs blew me away. “Cry” is a really good song though.

25. "Cry" - Faith Hill Should be a better Faith Hill song but she is probably still the worst Adult Contemporary leaning 90s country female artist I have heard. The phrasing of "I just want what is mine" is extremely awkward, and the melody is dated and uninspired af. 24. "Right Where I Need To Be" - Gary Allan I tried the Gary Allan rankdown playlist for a few times but just can't get into him, especially not this song. The melody seems a bit short ranged? 23. "Wild Angels" - Martina McBride Decent upbeat song with fine vocals from her.

Sad to see "Wild Angels" and "Cry" out already, but then this is a stellar group of songs, so I'm not exactly surprised. Definitely ready to see one (or both) of the George Strait songs go, even though these are his best two songs.

Both of the runner-ups to Gary Allan's two wins ("Tomorrow" and "Smoke Rings") were better than "Right Where I Need to Be" so... #bye. A little sad to see "Cry" and "Wild Angels" out now, even though I ranked both in the 20s right around where they ended up, lol. Too many quality songs.

When you said time was all you really needed I walked away and let you have your space, 'Cause leavin' didn't hurt me near as badly As the tears I saw rollin' down your face.

I love "Just To See You Smile", but I am definitely super bitter that it continues to be Tim McGraw's most-loved song despite so many people liking many of his other songs more... That being said, thank God it won the Tim McGraw rankdown over "Humble and Kind"!! HaK is amazing, but the recency bias was way too real in that case... No way is it even in Tim's best 10 hits of all time, imo...

She laid her heart and soul right in your hands, And you stole her every dream, and you crushed her plans. She never even knew she had a choice, And that's what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can't. Stupid boy.

I absolutely love this one, the lyrics, Keith's delivery, the production so basically everything. Sad to see it barely miss the top 20.

Yikes. “Just To See You Smile” missing the top 20. Makes me wonder how well "Please Remember Me" would have done in this rankdown, if it hadn't been brutally murdered by one of the final submitters...

I really enjoy Keith’s songs, the ones I’ve heard so far. His style is close to what I would do if I was a country artist.

One Sunday morning She didn't go to church. He wondered why she didn't leave. He went up to the bedroom, Found a note by the window, With the curtains blowin' in the breeze...

"A Broken Wing" is one of those songs that consistently does well in rankdowns. As you can see, it has been in five country rankdowns so far, which I believe is the most out of any song in this rankdown. It consistently makes it near the top in Martina-related rankdowns, was comfortably within the top 10 in both year-end rankdowns, and has even kept its top 20 streak alive in more competitive rankdowns such as this one and the CMA Songs of the Year one! However, it is also one of the more contentious rankdown winners... "Whatever You Say" and "Wrong Again" both put up a hell of a fight in the Evolution album rankdown. "Whatever You Say" was actually the clear frontrunner to win, and had the most #1 votes of the rankdown, but "A Broken Wing" managed to sneak in at the last second due to the final list I received. It had not been #1 at any other point in the submission process, and was actually on pace to finish behind both "Whatever You Say" and "Wrong Again"... So in the end ABW got lucky to be included in this playlist, and WYS and WA had to settle for a tie in the runner-up spot. Such an amazing album though, so I would have been happy to see any of those 3 win Despite all that, I feel like "A Broken Wing" belongs in a playlist like this, because it is by far one of the most iconic country songs of the late '90s, and also one of the most pivotal songs of Martina's entire career. It's a shame it couldn't be a top 15 contender, at minimum...

Shania defying the odds for a Top 18 finish <3 QUEEN.
I love A Broken Wing. Only had it at #18 but would have liked to see it do better considering some of the material left to go.

Also side note, but I feel like "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is one of those songs that is going to suffer from "Bye Bye" syndrome... It finished behind "Is There Life Out There" at #4 in the 1992 Country rankdown, so it is incredibly well-liked too. And then made it to #2 in the Reba rankdown, once again finishing right behind ITLOT. When an album rankdown eventually happens for For My Broken Heart, I wouldn't be surprised to see ITLOT win that one too, since that is what always happens...
So when is "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" ever going to get its chance, if it is constantly overshadowed by another song on the same album?! It is the exact same case as Jo Dee's "Bye Bye", which has now finished at #2 behind "I'm Alright" in 3 different rankdowns.
Another side note: I feel like the same thing has potential to happen with Sara Evans' Born To Fly album. "Born To Fly" and "I Could Not Ask For More" are especially well-loved, and will always appear together in rankdowns... We just don't know it yet, because a Sara Evans rankdown has not happened, and so far the early 2000s have not really been covered in any country rankdowns. I look forward to seeing what happens with that one!
