Who expects anyone to become big before they actually do 1. His name is Juice WRLD 2. He's from SoundCloud 3. His name is Juice WRLD 4. His name is Juice WRLD The odds are against him Ten years ago people thought that there was no way an act named Lady Gaga could become huge because it sounded like the name for a drag queen or a transvestite. Message board/comment section archives are littered with 'lol this tranny' comments. They learned. Then a few years later an act called The Weeknd rose to success while having a peculiar and joke-like sounding name, and also importantly, in a very different fashion from Lady Gaga.

A girl with the stage name Bhad Bhabie was birthed from a Dr. Phil meme and now has multiple Gold singles.
A respectable stage name and coming from a respectable platform isn't on the criteria for notable Hip-Hop artists in 2018.

The Childish Gambino situation with "Redbone" and "This Is America" is reminiscent of the Glenn Medeiros thing we talked about not long ago: his globally recognized signature hit is the #12-peaking "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You", yet "She Ain't Worth It" was a US #1 (also for 2 weeks). Huh.

I like Redbone better than This is America but 3005 tops them both.

^Probably not. It's still doing alright on YouTube but freefalling everywhere else. "This Is America" works great with the visuals and is very enjoyable, but I find it hard to listen to as part of my daily playlist and I believe most people feel the same way. "Redbone" is definitely a bigger hit. Redbone is an incredible song but I really like This Is America on its own apart from the video. It’s about the only rap song I like currently. Not a huge rap fan unless it’s old school.

I agree This Is America works without the video, too. It's a good song on its own. Redbone > >> though
But This Is America is his biggest hit yet imo, even if it were to drop off the charts so soon.

I like Heartbeat the most from Childish Gambino. Was that just a completely nonexistent song or what?

^Interestingly, Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You was originally sung by George Benson and he managed to return to the Hot 100 as a featured act last week's Hot 100 (6/16).

Weeknd's name isn't any weirder than the name of a lot of bands. In the 1970s, there was a band called "Bread", and they had 6 Top 10 hits.

Chainsmokers - a novelty name if ever there was one - break though with novelty single #Selfie. Destined to be a one hit wonder after subsequent singles make no mark. Hit Top 10 with Roses (feat Rozes) haha more novelty. Four more singles pass unnoticed and then bam!

I like Heartbeat as well. I found out about it because years ago people were saying Macklemore - Can't Hold Us sounds a lot like it (which is true). There were quite a few mash-ups on Youtube actually.

Youngblood is rising like hell in the Spotify U.S charts. Could this be the first top ten hit for 5SOS?

The Middle's run on the Radio Songs chart is kinda crazy: I mean, it reached #1 after peaking in audience and is falling slowly since then.
April 14 - #3 - 113.0M audience impressions April 21 - #2 - 114.7M April 28 - #2 - 117.0M May 5 - #2 - 119.9M May 12 - #2 - 121.5M May 19 - #1 - 119.1M May 26 - #1 - 118.2M June 2 - #1 - 115.0M June 9 - #1 - 115.7M June 16 - #1 - 114.2M

I'm Upset had 4.29m US views on Youtube on Thursday. Thats 4.29m views wasted but hopefully it can average about 2m views for this tracking week and make top ten on the hot 100

At least, it gave I'm Upset a huge boost on Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.

Lil Pump has another charting song as well. Lil Pump's situation is not the same. He's got 2 songs charting now, but they didn't randomly just start getting attention when Gucci Gang blew up. They were released afterwards and intentionally promoted. These artists had a song blow up, and then had either previous singles start charting by themselves (after originally flopping/getting no attention) or had album tracks start charting by themselves. This suggested an interest in the artist rather than just the particular song. Fetty Wap (My Way, 679, some other songs, I think RGF Island, Again and maybe one or two more) Lorde (Team, Tennis Court) Iggy Azalea (Work) Adele (Someone Like You, Set Fire To The Rain) fun. (Some Nights) Twenty One Pilots (Ride, I THINK, not 100% sure) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Can't Hold Us, Same Love) Kevin Gates (Really Really) Post Malone (Go Flex, White Iverson (it was already a hit before but got a resurgence after Congratulations blew up showing interest in Post Malone, not only in Congratulations) Bryson Tiller (Exchange, Sorry Not Sorry) and now we can add: Juice WRLD - All Girls Are the Same There will be others songs and artists that I have missed off as well. Post Malone and Fetty Wap were the most extreme examples by far, because they both had so many songs just start taking off by themselves. Although Fetty Wap's career faded quite quickly, so I'm not saying that Juice WRLD will be the new Drake, but I think he will get multiple hits like Lorde, Iggy Azalea, Bryson Tiller, fun., etc. People are clearly interested in him as an artist at the moment, and are not interested solely in the one song. Or maybe they're just intersted in the 2 songs lol. But basically I think he's got another hit song secured after Lucid Dreams already. This didn't happen to James Arthur, OMI, Silento, MAGIC!, Nico & Vinz, etc. So to me that suggests people loved the actual songs Cheerleader, Watch Me, Rude, etc. but didn't have so much interest in the artists themselves. Hope that makes sense, but that's my reasoning why I think Juice WRLD will likely become popular in his own right, rather than just the song being popular. And no, I see no evidence that he will become as popular as Cardi B, but I don't think he will disappear straight after this song either. Also Tyga (Molly, Dope)
