"I Like Me Better" hits Pop Songs Top 10 (Mainstream Top 40), but is not an official "Hot 100 top 40 hit". Other than the airplay-only 90s, has this happened recently?

David Lee Murphy & Kenny Chesney Set Records Atop Country Airplay Chart
NewsRecord Labels
By Jim Asker | June 19, 2018 10:41 AM EDT Kenny Chesney
With "Everything's Gonna Be Alright," Murphy ends the longest break between No. 1s, while Chesney earns his record-tying 29th leader.
David Lee Murphy and Kenny Chesney's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" ascends 3-1 in its 32nd week on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated June 23). It increases 6 percent to 42 million audience impressions in the week ending June 17, according to Nielsen Music.
On the Hot Country Songs chart, which blends airplay, streaming and sales data, "Alright" ranks at No. 11 after reaching No. 9.
The song, co-written by Murphy, Jimmy Yeary and Chris Stevens, marks Murphy's second Country Airplay No. 1 (among six top 10s) and his first in 22 years, five months and three weeks. His first, "Dust on the Bottle," hit No. 1 on the chart dated Oct. 28, 1995, for its first of a two-week reign.
"I loved David Lee's music when he was making 'Dust on the Bottle' and [1995's No. 6-peaking] 'Party Crowd,' and I love it just as much now," Chesney tellsBillboard. "It's so great hearing his voice on the radio, and I'm honored to be part of this No. 1."
"This one's really special," says Murphy. "I've never received more heart-warming messages on a song in my life, and to stand there with Kenny and sing it to a stadium full of people singing it with us is unbelievable. so many people to thank, especially Kenny, for making this happen."
The gap between Murphy's No. 1s is the second-longest ever on the Country Airplay chart, which launched Jan. 20, 1990. Vince Gill holds the record, having returned to the penthouse when Chris Young's "Sober Saturday Night," featuring Gill, crowned the March 18, 2017-dated chart, 23 years and one week after his own "Tryin' to Get Over You" (March 12, 1994).
Murphy rewrites the record for longest break between No. 1s in a lead role on both songs. He more than doubles Garth Brooks' mark of 10 years and three months, between "More Than a Memory," which became the only song to debut at the pinnacle (Sept. 15, 2007), and "Ask Me How I Know" (Dec. 16, 2017).
Chesney makes his own history, as "Alright" is his 29th Country Airplay No. 1, tying him with Tim McGraw for the most leaders in the chart's archives. Alan Jackson and George Strait follow with 26 each.
Meanwhile, Chesney's solo single "Get Along" holds at No. 8 on Country Airplay after reaching No. 7 (32.7 million, up 7 percent).

Oooh Selena looking like she might be able to peak inside the top 20 for the first time in forever instead of 21 three times in a row. Delicate, an almost top 20 hit. Look at what releasing good music does Taylor.... Even though these sub 40k point number one weeks are exciting, its honestly just making it easier for Drake to eviscerate the top 10 in 3 weeks. My prediction is 5 total songs in the 10 minimum. I'm in the camp of Girls Like You as the next number one, just seems more likely than I Like It and Lucid Dreams #10 - It Ain't Me #20 - Bad Liar #27 - Fetish #20 - Wolves #22 - Back To You Where did she hit #21? oops I've been mistaken. It just felt like she's around the same position for forever lol

Lauv's 'I Like Me Better' & Dua Lipa's 'New Rules' Set Longevity Records on Pop Songs Chart
6/18/2018 by Gary Trust
Lauv's song reaches the top 10 in its 35th week, while Lipa's logs an unprecedented 42nd frame on the radio airplay survey.
Lauv and Dua Lipa each make history with long-running hits on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart.
(And, oddly enough, both hits simultaneously dethrone the same song for their respective record-breaking feats).
Lauv Read More Pop Shop Podcast: Lauv on the Slow Climb of the 'Fastest' Song He's Written, 'I Like Me Better,' Plus BBMA Highlights With J.Lo, Dua Lipa & More
Lauv's "I Like Me Better" completes the longest ascent to the tally's top 10, rising from No. 11 to No. 10 in its 35th week on the chart (dated June 23). The single was released over a year ago and debuted on the chart dated Nov. 4, 2017. It surpasses the 31-week climb to the top 10 made by Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" in 1998.
The Pop Songs chart, which launched on Oct. 3, 1992, measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 160 mainstream top 40 stations.
Here's a look at the titles to take the most time to reach the Pop Songs top 10:
Weeks to Top 10, Title, Artist, Date Reached Top 10, Peak Pos. 35 weeks, "I Like Me Better," Lauv, June 23, 2018, No. 10 (to date) 31 weeks, "I'll Be," Edwin McCain, Oct. 17, 1998, No. 10 27 weeks, "Lights Down Low," MAX feat. gnash, Feb. 3, 2018, No. 7 25 weeks, "All Time Low," Jon Bellion, March 11, 2017, No. 10 25 weeks, "Sit Still, Look Pretty," Daya, Oct. 15, 2016, No. 8 25 weeks, "Classic," MKTO, July 12, 2014, No. 8
Perhaps unsurprisingly, of those six hits, all were either the first (as is the case with Lauv), second or third chart Pop Songs entries for each (lead) artist, with the acts' relative unfamiliarity likely playing a part in the songs' steady ascents.
Lauv boasts one additional top 10 as a co-writer and co-producer: Cheat Codes' "No Promises," featuring Demi Lovato, hit No. 7 in September 2017. He produced and co-wrote "Better."
Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa and Macklemore. Read More Chart Beat Podcast: Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa & More Are Winning for Warner Bros.
Meanwhile. Lipa's "New Rules" breaks the record for the longest stay on Pop Songs, logging its 42nd week on the chart, as it dips 13-15. The single, which topped Pop Songs for four weeks in February, passes the 41-week run of, again, McCain's "I'll Be."
Here's a rundown of the longest-charting Pop Songs hits:
Weeks on Chart, Title, Artist, Peak Pos./Date 42 weeks, "New Rules," Dua Lipa, No. 1 (four weeks), Feb. 3, 2018 41 weeks, "I'll Be," Edwin McCain, No. 10, Oct. 17, 1998 39 weeks, "Slide," Goo Goo Dolls, No. 1 (two weeks), Feb. 6, 1999 39 weeks, "Iris," Goo Goo Dolls, No. 1 (four weeks), July 25, 1998 39 weeks, "Another Night," Real McCoy, No. 1 (six weeks), Nov. 26, 1994 38 weeks, "U + Ur Hand," P!nk, No. 1 (four weeks), May 19, 2007 38 weeks, "Smooth," Santana feat. Rob Thomas, No. 1 (eight weeks), Nov. 13, 1999 37 weeks, "Lights Down Low," MAX feat. gnash, No. 7, March 10, 2018

Louis Prima Sets Record For Longest Break Between Hot 100 Hits, Debuting on Kids See Ghosts' '4th Dimension'
News
By Gary Trust | June 19, 2018 11:39 PM EDT Louis Prima
Kanye West & Kid Cudi's collab brings the late Prima back to the chart for the first time since 1961.
Nearly 40 years after his passing, Louis Prima makes history on the Billboard Hot 100.
The jazz trumpeter, singer, composer and bandleader, who died in August 1978, debuts at No. 42 on the chart (dated June 23) as the featured artist on Kids See Ghosts' song "4th Dimension." Kids See Ghosts is the tandem of Kanye West and Kid Cudi, whose self-titled first album under that billing debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Prima had last appeared on the Hot 100 dated Feb. 13, 1961, with the song "Wonderland by Night." He, thus, ends a record break of 57 years, four months and two weeks between Hot 100 appearances. (The Hot 100 launched on Aug. 4, 1958.)
Prima receives credit on "Dimension" as the song contains a sample of "What Will Santa Claus Say (When He Finds Everybody Swingin')," which he wrote and performed; it was originally released in 1936.
Prima passes another late artist, Bobby Helms, whose span between Hot 100 visits covered 54 years, 11 months and two weeks, thanks to the same song: his Christmas classic "Jingle Bell Rock." The carol had last appeared on the chart dated Dec. 29, 1962 (after debuting in December 1958), until it returned on Jan. 9, 2016. (A rule change to allow older songs to re-enter the Hot 100 if ranking in the top 50 has resulted in several holiday hits returning this decade.)
As Helms' hiatus involved the same single, Prima passes the late Burl Ives for the longest break between Hot 100 hits involving different titles: Ives charted with "Pearly Shells (Popo O Ewa)," which logged its last week on the list dated Oct. 17, 1964, and didn't return until his holiday chestnut "A Holly Jolly Christmas" made its first appearance on the chart dated Jan. 7, 2017, ending a gap of 54 years, two months and three weeks.
If we count acts returning with new releases (unlike Ives), Prima bests The Chipmunks, who waited 45 years and one week between "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," last on the Hot 100 dated Dec. 29, 1962, and "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) (2007)," which bowed on Jan. 5, 2008.
And, if we narrow the search down to acts reappearing with new compositions (as opposed to remakes, like The Chipmunks'), Prima passes legend Tony Bennett, who went 43 years, 10 months and one week between charted Hot 100 titles: "For Once in My Life," last on the chart dated Nov. 25, 1967, and his Amy Winehouse duet "Body and Soul," which debuted on Oct. 1, 2011.
As for Kids See Ghosts, "4th Dimension" is one of seven songs that the duo debuts on the Hot 100, encompassing the album's entire track list. The others: "Reborn" (No. 39); "Feel the Love" (No. 47); "Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)" (No. 62); "Fire" (No. 67); "Cudi Montage" (No. 69); and the act and album namesake "Kids See Ghosts" (No. 73).
Unlike Prima, West waited no time between Hot 100 visits: A week ago, he debuted all seven songs from his new solo set, Ye.

News
By Gary Trust | June 22, 2018 10:38 AM EDT
Bazzi's "Mine" also hits the Radio Songs top 10, while Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne add to their lofty totals of Hot 100 appearances.
As previously reported, Drake's "Nice for What" returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, rising from No. 2, for a seventh total week on top.
Plus, late jazz star Louis Prima makes history on the Hot 100, ending the longest break between appearances on the chart (57 years, four months and two weeks), as he debuts at No. 42 as the featured artist on Kids See Ghosts' "4th Dimension."
Who else makes notable Hot 100 chart moves?
"Delicate," Taylor Swift As it jumps to a new high on the Hot 100 (37-25), the fourth radio single from reputation becomes the set's second top 10 on the Radio Songs chart, where it pushes 12-9 (73.4 million in audience, up 9 percent in the tracking week, according to Nielsen Music). Lead reputation single "Look What You Made Me Do" hit No. 5 last October, followed by "β¦Ready for It?" (No. 17, December) and "End Game," featuring Ed Sheeran and Future (No. 15, January).
Swift scores her 14th total Radio Songs top 10 with "Delicate," which concurrently climbs 7-4 on Adult Pop Songs, 10-8 on Pop Songs and 11-10 on Adult Contemporary, where it becomes her first top 10 from reputation and her 12th total.
"Mine," Bazzi Bazzi's debut hit rebounds 23-15 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 11 on April 7, and becomes his first Radio Songs top 10 (11-10; 69.9 million, up 4 percent). On Pop Songs, the track rises 3-2.
"Rich Sex," Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne Following its June 11 release, the song starts at No. 88 on the Hot 100, driven most-heavily by 5.6 million U.S. streams (in the week ending June 14); it should jump on next week's charts following its first full week of tracking.
With the bow, Minaj extends her record for the most Hot 100 visits among women (to 90), while Lil Wayne further solidifies his overall third-place ranking (138).
Here's an updated look at the acts with the most Hot 100 appearances, dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, launch:
207, Glee Cast 164, Drake 138, Lil Wayne 108, Elvis Presley 97, JAY-Z 91, James Brown 91, Kanye West 90, Chris Brown 90, Nicki Minaj 77, Taylor Swift 75, Ray Charles 73, Aretha Franklin 71, The Beatles

Yeah Billboard is weird with this stuff! When Ed Sheeran blew the old record for most top 10 weeks in airplay out of the park with "Shape of You" (38 weeks), I thought there would be some type of article about it (the old record was "Torn" with 32 weeks). But they made an article about the largest drop from the top 5 of radio songs for "Look What You Made Me Do"...

I mean, an article about the largest drop ever is still warranted and something people would be interested in reading. This article about "Delicate," though, is bizarre.

Taylor Swift gets more clicks than Ed Sheeran, probably.

1. Psycho 2. No Tears Left To Cry 3. Delicate 4. Girls Like You 5. Nice For What how'd ya find that out? super interesting My listening habits, every night my station has a "most requested" Top 5 so I listened over the course of the week and sorted out the average Top 5. Same goes for the iHeartRadio Top 5, as for recurrent airplay that also goes by my listening habits. For some reason pop stations around the country have been playing lots of old songs, along with my local station and those 5 songs are what I've heard the most this week. Most of the recurrent airplay I believe comes from the workout hour or whatever, aside from Shape Of You and Despacito which get played all the time anyways. I'm trying to put some sort of a spreadsheet together. I listen to a lot of radio lmao.

My station played Frozen by Madonna once months ago late at night and I was shocked cuz I didn't even know that song ever got airplay, apparently it went to #4 on Pop in it's prime. They chopped it down to 4 minutes so I guess it makes sense.

At least the other 4 are ones that I could probably get if I had 100 guesses (I Write Sings Not Tragedies I probably wouldn't guess, but I can understand it). You would think if they wanted a song like that they would choose Rihanna's similar, earlier and more famous song (Only Girl) or David Guetta's also more famous sound-a-like that came first (Sexy Chick).

I've heard plenty of Rihanna's old stuff on my station, Umbrella and S&M are the ones I hear the most though, aside from This Is What You Came For of course. I wish they would play Only Girl more, I love that song.
