Audiences were obviously *so* hungry for new Bieber in 2016 and 2017. So many high debuts as a featuring artist. I feel like he should have struck while the iron was hot and released some stuff then. But I guess he's taking his time. Weird and unfortunate that the one song he did as a main artist basically flopped after all of those home runs as a featured artist. He sort of did though right after his album finished producing singles he released Cold Water and let me love you. Then when they burned out he Released Despacito, Im the one, 2U and Friends all within a few months of each other. I don't think he could released anymore singles then he did during that time otherwise they would of underperformed like the latter two did. |

Top 6, but it's so close between #1 and #6 (and YouTube is completely lost with its numbers this week) that I prefer to wait for tomorrow's Spotify update to see where it's going. 30k sales + 3M airplay + 44M on-demand/YouTube streams and it's going #1. |

Urban and Rhythmic stations outplayed Prince when he died, I don’t listen to those stations though so I wouldn’t know if XXX got played a lot yesterday I would check our info from Mediabase. |

I think the #1 predictions for SAD might be a bit premature. It could drop steadily through the rest of the week. Airplay won't help it much either.

My totally subjective POV/opinion: The fact that "Friends" didn't smash or have much in the way of longevity was a sign that people needed a break, so he took one. That song sounded like an absolute smash, and fell victim to Bieber burnout. "2U" was the first sign of burnout, but I didn't feel like that was smash material to begin with. I know one could argue that Friends smashed on arrival, but I feel like that was largely fanbase-driven, hence its relatively short 10-week life on the Hot 100. |

I wouldn't mind "SAD!" going #1 either, if only because posthumous #1's are rare and we even had one in a while (since Static Major on Lil Wayne's "Lollipop", I believe), and we certainly haven't had one by a deceased leading artist in a longer while (since B.I.G. in '97). Also, I kinda like the song.
Thing is, is there a chance "SAD!" could stick around? It was a hit on its own this year, making top 10 some time before he died and even with the controversy. I think we're counting on it being a "now or never" thing, but maybe the song just hangs about for some time and perhaps even hits #1 down the line?

Also, just so it doesn't seem like I only ever criticize hip-hop: "The Light Is Coming" is God-awful. Ok ok there's a hip-hop star in it and her verses are meh and unnecessary, but the bulk of the song is crap. IMO ofc.
