I really hope I Like It doesn't become #1, I really don't want the precedent set that you can get a hit by having a big name artist make an upbeat song with 2 random reggaeton artists. If SAD! went to number 1, it would be a song we remember for ages and would be the song we link to the tragic murder of a young artist. Like it or not, X is gonna be one of those cultural "too early" deaths, and will probably be the most talked-about dead celebrity of this decade. I Like It is literally just Mi Gente 2. So you don't want a smash (I like it) on all formats: streaming, radio, sales to set a precedent yet you want a song that has no business being #1 and is re-peaking either way due to sympathy for his death because WE will remember it. I hate to say this but I really don't think XXX's death will serve an Anna Nicole cultural impact much less a "too early" Amy winehouse, Tupac, Aaliyah type set up. I feel like I like it will be one of those cute summer smashes that reminds you of where you were at in life in the summer of 2018. I think I like it will have more impact than a song that'll peak for a week and then fall off..

I Like It is literally just Mi Gente 2.you're on a different level of ignorant to even say this, ESPECIALLY when I Like It and Mi Gente are influenced by two entirely different genres (boogaloo and moombahton, respectively) and "two random reggaetón artists"? Bad Bunny isn't even reggaetón to begin with. and they aren't "random" neither. they're two of the hottest acts in the mainstream latin music scene. they're everything BUT "random" at this period in time. i feel like you just wrote this post to sound ~different~ from some other people in this thread who said they'd feel indifferent if SAD! were to go #1. Superstar urban female musician singing English while the 2 Latin artists sing in Spanish is what I meant, I know the actual genres are different. I don't think I can quote multiple posts so chartslovergermany, look at Michael Jackson. Before death, he was seen as a child molester and pretty much nothing else. After death, he's a legend. I don't think you understand how death really affects the legacy of a celebrity.

He's dead now,get over it,most people here doesn't care about x someones salty Let's be real here, even if you hate X's guts and wish he was shot earlier, he is the new Tupac. He is the new Elvis. Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Ian Curtis, Biggie Smalls, Chester Bennington, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Cliff Burton, etc. I could go on and on but you get the point. His death will be a huge part in how we remember X 20 years from now and I do believe he will be loved and remembered for decades to come. That was my point, his death will make him a cultural icon. Disregard what I said about I Like It and just focus on X. If SAD! goes number 1 this week, he will join the small lists of artists with a posthumous #1 hit. He will have a defining song you can put to his name. Because he is now gone, I don't think the song will be forgotten. I don't think his other big hits will be forgotten. X has left a massive legacy and he will be romanticized by our culture. That's just how it is. Expect his biopic in 25 years. Expect to see "XXXTentacion Murdered ___ Years Ago" articles every year. Hell, expect him to be considered the frontrunner of the Soundcloud scene, kinda like how Kurt Cobain is seen as the frontman of the entire grunge scene. He's an icon now and even if a small internet community doesn't care for him, an entire culture does and will for years to come. You’re trolling right?

The millions of fans whose lives he's touched, or the trolls here who don't know when to not cross a line. You notice you don't see any public non-anonymous figures saying anything negative about XXX on the days his fans are mourning. Death puts all the pettier things into perspective. I'll think about this from now on when I see people on here complaining every week when a Hip-Hop artist breaks another boundary. And sad that the mods haven't stepped in and are still allowing some of the most toxic form of trolling to go on here. People celebrating a death does not make this place a welcoming or fun place for fans to discuss music.

yall can act like its not true but death changes an artists legacy entirely and i will stand by that point.
I understand you guys think I'm crazy now because of his allegations but trust me, X is literally the perfect candidate for the next "died too young" kinda person
-High profile murder -Conspiracies about such murder -He was at the height of his popularity -He was only 20 -He's a dad
Not to mention the cultural significance of Soundcloud and that scene. Sorry to say, but it's the new grunge or gangsta rap and even before his death, I would argue X was at the forefront of this scene. All this is why I've been saying X will be remembered by our culture.

Guys, time will tell what happens, so everyone should just relax for now. "SAD!" could still go #1, Simm himself seems to be unsure of what happens, and Billboard has been wrong befoJUST LAST WEEK! If "I Like It" goes #1, makes sense, Cardi is a hot in-demand artist and the song is perfect for the summer, mixing the most popular current genre (hip-hop) with the rising wave of latino beats that has been taking over since "Despacito". And if "SAD!" goes #1, makes sense too, it's the new posthumous chart-topper by a young artist killed whilst still on the rise, and whose personal life was attached to a lot of drama and attention from the media. If "Girls Like You" goes #1... cool, I guess, whatever. Point is, it's a close call, so let's wait till the results get in and THEN comment on the outcome. Getting this worked up about something that's, as of yet, hypothetical, is unnecessary, and especially concerning in a thread that's been a mess from the get-go.
And like I said, we're relying too much on it all being a "now-or-never" situation. I really doubt "SAD!" is gonna freefall next week... The novelty of his death will not have worn out THAT quickly and the streams will still be there, just like they've been there for Drake or Cardi all along. Heck, maybe radio will even jump in on it, since he did die and everything. And if it doesn't go #1, well, it happens. Think of the huuuuge amount of iconic, relevant, enduring songs that have stalled at #2, some even deemed to be some of the best ever made (like "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Like a Rolling Stone"). "SAD!" would just be joining the list of unjusticed songs, not the worst thing ever.

I don't think you understand how death really affects the legacy of a celebrity. Wrong, Michael Jackson actually had an ouevre of songs that the general public loved in spite of the problematic nature of the artist. In my childhood, hits like Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Billie Jean, and Beat It were frequently spun on the radio long before the death, not to mention his hits with the Jackson 5. You have to face the fact that, not only did X only have two proper hits to his name, neither of which radio or tastemakers (e.g. music critics, the ones who would do retrospectives) were fond of, kneecapping his influence postmortem, but his material just wasn’t substantial to warrant an ouevre in the first place. 2 minute songs that are mostly chorus just flat out are not enough.

Some artists, especially ones that sing about depressing stuff, will get those kinds of things said about them after they pass away. It's not a recent thing either, I believe in the Behind the Music episode, James Hetfield of Metallica said that he constantly gets notes about how Fade to Black has helped people with dark times. I apologize for destroying this thread, this is my last post

Michael Jackson's fondness for little boys was at the forefront of his public persona the last 15-20 years of his life. That lost focus when he died as he had a large body of work that people chose to remember instead.
XXX doesn't have the same body of work, unless there are unreleased works that we don't know about

See, all this joking around about suicide takes me back to the point I made yesterday: jokes about serious issues CAN be funny, given the right context. The jokes/replies being thrown around here, however, are inappropriate, disrespectful and in incredibly poor taste. This is not a "Desburrito" situation, if someone tells you they've been suicidal in the past, common sense dictates that you not mock them.

Lauryn Hill deserves it but sadly she isn't credited for Nice For What Weird that "Doo Wop" is her only top 10 hit ever, including the Fugees who scored none. Ah, Billboard in the 90's, you sure sucked.
