Go Ariana and Bebe I'm not a huge fan of I Like It but it is easily one of the best #1s of the year so far (I guess second after Havana and tied with Perfect)

Not to discredit Cardi, I really do think she has to potential to stay around as a huge hitmaker.. but she has had four hits, two of which she was featured on (Bodak Yellow, No Limit, Finesse, I Like It). That's only a little more than Iggy Azalea (Fancy, Problem and Black Widow). In 2015 I remember people thought Fetty Wap would stay huge (Trap Queen, My Way, 679) and when I compared him to Macklemore (Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us, Same Love, White Walls and Downtown) and Iggy Azalea, people didn't seem to agree. I just think (unless done so as a joke), it's a bit early to be calling Cardi B the next anything. I hope the best for her as she goes on with her career, but I won't be surprised if she suddenly becomes 'irrelevant'
Also, lol at this being my 8,000th post

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8463605/cardi-b-i-like-it-hot-100-number-one-j-balvin-bad-bunnyThanks to "Bodak Yellow" and now "Like," Cardi B passes four female rappers who previously topped the tally with one No. 1 apiece: Lauryn Hill, with "Doo Wop (That Thing)," for two weeks in 1998; Lil' Kim, with "Lady Marmalade," with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk (five weeks, 2001); Shawnna, as featured on Ludacris' "Stand Up" (one, 2003); and, Iggy Azalea, with "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX (seven, 2014). Wow, are those seriously the only female rap #1s in the history of the Hot 100? Only 3 artists (Cardi, Lauryn, Iggy) have their own #1 songs? That's insane to me. I didn't even realize Lil Kim doesn't have a #1 with her own song. Hopefully with the new chart rules, this stops happening. Remy Ma also reached #1 with Lean Back, but that song is credited to Terror Squad rather than the individual rappers on it, so BB must have overlooked it when checking the stats. Not that this one additional person makes it much better. I don't think the new chart rules are going to help much with this. Historically, the # of female rappers who become large mainstream crossovers is low, and even within hip-hop they are always fighting to be put on an equal playing field with the boys. They have a lot stacked against them just in that the two demos they need most to top the charts are not inherently checking for them. The only two who surprise me for not having a Hot 100 #1 are Nicki and Missy, b/c both are/were big crossover acts with songs that "feel" like #1 hits. Nicki was a "right place at the wrong time" situation - pop was dominant when she was releasing her biggest songs, so she was always running up against the behemoth pop hits (Anaconda blocked by Shake It Off, Bang Bang blocked by SIO and All About That Bass, Starships getting caught up in the Somebody That I Used To Know/Call Me Maybe/We Are Young/Payphone storm, Super Bass blocked by Party Rock and Last Friday Night). Cardi OTOH is showing up when urban is the dominant genre with the help of streaming. Missy was getting blocked by other urban artists so hers is an especially strange stroke of bad luck.

I was typing my "I don't think Cardi will last long" thought process earlier today, but didn't end up hitting send. I didn't want to come off any type of way about her. She's having a moment, a big one, making some history, but I just don't think she'll last. Not that I don't like her, or that she's not worthy, but history shows how difficult it is for any act to stick around long, and often those that hit hard and fast out of the gate are the quickest to fall off. I realize she had some stinkers before Bodak that didn't chart, but I refer to when she really gained prominence with Bodak. It's like we chew up certain acts like they're cheesecake for a year or two and spit them out, while a select few we savor for several years to life. There are always exceptions, and maybe she'll be an exception... but my gut tells me she's having her big hit-making moment right now and there won't be much more after maybe another album of singles with mediocre returns. Just a hunch. She's certainly maximizing her time, working overtime, so I feel like she knows the reality of the game. History has endless receipts of how things usually play out.

Let's just ignore the fact that this album has had 2 #1 singles(BY/ILI) on the Hot 100... 2 Top 15 singles (Be Careful/Bartier) and every other song on the album has charted on the hot 100... although this is something no other female rappers have done and only a handful of pop girls have done.. stop downplaying her success and let's celebrate the FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR CARDI B :)

If you are only doing top ten hits for Cardi, then you are missing Motorsport and Girls Like You, so Cardi has six hits under her belt Oops, I forgot about those two, thanks for pointing them out I still stand by my overall point, though First off Iggy album flop... cardi album is doing numbers fetty/iggy/remy none of them have ever done . not a fair comparison Fetty was arguably bigger than Iggy but that didn't stop him from fading away to nothing. I'm not saying they are perfect examples, I just mean their careers chart wise are pretty similar so far Funny you posted this... I was typing my "I don't think Cardi will last long" thought process earlier today, but didn't end up hitting send. I didn't want to come off any type of way about her. I definitely agree with a lot of what you're saying. I remember when Twenty One Pilots were huge two years ago, I couldn't see a world when they weren't huge. Especially since they had a huge fanbase before being charts big. They got three spread out hits over a year which were all huge, and now.. "twenty one who?". I think Cardi will last but if she suddenly stops charting high, I wouldn't be surprised at all EDIT: Let's just ignore the fact that this album has had 2 #1 singles(BY/ILI) on the Hot 100... 2 Top 15 singles (Be Careful/Bartier) and every other song on the album has charted on the hot 100... although this is something no other female rappers have done and only a handful of pop girls have done.. stop downplaying her success and let's celebrate the FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR CARDI B I'm not trying to downplay her success. That doesn't mean they weren't huge during their peaks. I am just pointing out the similarities of Cardi to past artists who, at the time, we couldn't see as not being huge

This is turning out to be such a strong year for #1s Really? I love I Like It and I'm glad to see that one go to #1 but before then we had a really long depressing string of nondescript, moody songs that I really don't think anyone's gonna remember. Like compare this year to 2011 where we had Rolling In The Deep, Party Rock Anthem, Give Me Everything, Last Friday Night, Firework, E.T., Moves Like Jagger, Someone Like You all legendary hits whereas this year we have had I Like It, Havana which barely counts since it was already #2 in 2017 and a song everyone associated with 2017, and I guess Nice For What but even that song is just decent IMO.

To be fair Twenty One Pilots haven’t made new music since then.. Very true... it's all about what happens AFTER a big era. Looks like we could get new 21P music any time now, btw, song titles are being registered. Should be interesting. They wouldn't be the first to crash and burn after a highly successful era, but then again, they've got a fan base that carried them just fine well before hitting the big time with Stressed Out. That's a big difference between artists like them and some other artists who establish a fanbase during their mainstream success. Loyalty vs. bandwagon. Either way, that kind of hugeness is USUALLY confined to one era, maybe two if they're lucky. And that's ok.

I'm just happy that we are up to 7 #1 songs this year so far (8 if you count "Perfect"), the more the merrier. God it gets boring when songs sit at the top for months on end. Congrats to Cardi, me and my friends all happy for her, she's bae.

I don't think Cardi will endure for years and years simply because she doesn't seem interested in that. She's very private and seems to resent people prying into her personal life. Fame seems like a drag for her. I get the impression she wants to make her money now then enjoy her life with her new baby. Maybe she'll change her mind but she doesn't strike me as someone looking to be in the public eye for decades.
