I don't think Cardi will endure for years and years simply because she doesn't seem interested in that. She's very private and seems to resent people prying into her personal life. Fame seems like a drag for her. I get the impression she wants to make her money now then enjoy her life with her new baby. Maybe she'll change her mind but she doesn't strike me as someone looking to be in the public eye for decades. I agree. It helps explain/support why she's such a workhorse right now while the iron is hot - pregnant and all. |

I'm just happy that we are up to 7 #1 songs this year so far (8 if you count "Perfect"), the more the merrier. God it gets boring when songs sit at the top for months on end. Congrats to Cardi, me and my friends all happy for her, she's bae. Perfect hit #1 in late 2017, it shouldn't be counted for this year as well. |

I have to say, I have not seen much here mentioned about Bad Bunny and J.Balvin, who have also achieved their first Hot 100 #1. I see a lot of "Congrats Cardi" etc.... posts but they are a LARGE reason why this song has gone #1; I would argue this is just as much their #1 as it is Cardi's. They are 2 of the most popular, highest-streamed artists in the WORLD, consistently. They are a very large reason, I'd even dare say "the" reason, for why this song is doing so well internationally. Having them on the track, plus the "I Like It" classic sample, and Cardi's currently US popularity was a sure formula for a #1.

Like the "Perfect Duet" is a 2017 #1 and "Perfect" itself a 2017 #1. xD Obviously I only count it once (and always give the credit to B). |

But it still was #1 in 2018 For some of us who keep track of just how many #1's there have been since 1955 (or since the beginning of the Hot 100 in 1958), when it comes to the final #1 song of the calendar year, if it happens to stay over into the new year, we try not to include them with the count in the new year because then we are counting them twice and our overall count will be inaccurate. That's the way I do it anyway. So if "Perfect" is counted as the final #1 of 2017, then it can't be counted as the first #1 of 2018 as well. That honor should go to "Havana." That's my system, yours may differ. |

What a "year" is has always been kind of a grey area. Until recently the chart date was 13 days ahead of the actual week. This would mean that the first week of January really falls in the prior year.
Anyway, those who keep track of #1's in any year do it in their own way.

This pretend to care about J balvin/bad bunny thing is a kii. But yes I doubt anyone thinks j balvin and bad bunny had no contributions to it at all. hopefully I like it can pull out ahead and Nice for what will be 2nd. Coming to murder the charts. I'm really curious to see how July plays out because they lowered his SPS and I just assumed July was his game but he might just have 3 good weeks and then other songs might rebound.
