This is definately another novelty-type song just like their last two 1st singles, "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" and "Original Prankster". Dexter, from The Offspring, said it's about a jerk who thinks he's all that. A rip-off of "Pretty Fly" if you ask me. I miss the old Offspring. Hopefully this song will be good though. I'm looking forward to hearing it. It'll be nice to have The Offspring back.. hopfully I won't be disapointed like most of the other comebacks these days.

Hopefully it bombs so these talentless, whining fools can live up to their word and disappear for good. What was Dexter's quote? Something to the effect of "waaaaaaaaa, if our next record doesn't sell 10 million copies we're breaking up."
Good riddance.

Ok, so why is their album not going to be called Chinese Democracy anymore? That was funny...that was actually funny! But they had to back out of it.

Yeah, Chinese Democracy would have been an awesome name for their CD. Offspring are good, IMO. Their older albums are really excellent punk-rock material, almost to the likes of Green Day. Their use of humor and sarcasm really gets their point across.
"Pretty Fly", "Original Prankster", and "Kids Aren't Alright" were definitely over-played on alternative radio, but I still love hearing these songs, especially when I'm down and in the need for some up-beat, fun rock tracks.

Yeah...that's what was so funny about it. "You snooze, you lose"! [ ]

From VH1.com:
The first single from Splinter, "Hit That," will go to radio October 28. While the buoyant dance-pop keyboards and electronic drumming give the music a frivolous tone comparable to the band's 1998 hit "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)," the lyrics address a serious subject.
"It's about taking responsibility," Holland said. "A generation ago, people were talking about the disintegration of the family because everyone was getting divorced, and how it was taking such a terrible toll on society. Well, you look around nowadays, and it's disintegrated so much more. Joe Blow has got three different kids by three different girls and vice versa, and it's happening more and more. And ultimately the kids are the ones who suffer from that. But when you get down to it, people are gonna hook up, so there's nothing you can do about it."

I don't understand why they had to back out of it. It was my understanding that they actually WON the lawsuit. I see the song will probably make top 50 this week. Anyone hear it yet- is it any good?

I really like this song! Just like TKAA, the music is the very upbeat and you'd never know the lyrics aren't similarly upbeat unless you sit and think about them.
I think I remember seeing an Offspring peak posting, but that might have been on the R&R board; can someone please post where Offspring peaked in the past? My local alternative station, WXRK in New York, has played both Self Esteem and TKAA ten times per week, so this song will probably be big here.
I can't wait to pick up this album and hear more from the Offspring!

I really agree with the subject matter of the song. And I was looking forward to new Pffspring snce "Defy You" early last year.
Can I hear this anywhere online? Or is there an mp3 floating around yet?

So they're leading with another novelty song? Why must they insist on wasting their talent? Why can't they go back and make whole albums in the pre-Americana style? Either don't care about your credibility (like Sugar Ray) and ruin it all, or get back to the punk rock full-time. You can't have it both ways.
I am displeased.

I hear you.... but at least the subject matter is a little more deep than Sugar Ray or "Pretty Fly"/"Original Prankster."

I heard it for the first time today. It's okay, but I don't like the beginning, and whatever those horn things are throughout the verses. I like the chorus. The novelty subject matter part didn't really bother me.

I've only partially heard this, but the "novelty" of this song (if you want to call it that) doesn't bother me because they're taking a subject that is taken way too seriously by the media and the general public, and making a joke out of it. That's something I like to do myself, so it's cool with me.

The bassline and the drums in the verses are rip-offs of Eminem's "Without Me"

I wouldn't say that. Did you read the interview snippet I posted?

Yeah, I read it. That interview's a lot more PC than the lyrics to the song, but I wouldn't expect to have The Offspring's lyrics be any other way.

Well, it sounds like it won't be nearly as disappointing as "Pretty Fly" and "Original Prankster" were. I quite liked "Why Don't You Get a Job?", though.

This is better than the first singles from their past two albums. I still like "Gone Away" a thousand times better, though. I think I like it as much as "The Kids Aren't Alright".

I don't know if it's going to hit #1 but it sure seems like it's destined to go there. I'm looking at Mediabase numbers and the it looks like it's going to jump Away from Me and even Weak and Powerless in the next couple of days.
My personal opinion of the song: Middle of the Road. It's not terrible, but I wouldn't stop what I'm doing to listen to it.

What's the deal with the video?
When is it coming out? Or has it been out and I'm just totally missing it?
