Her team has worked their magic to make her the "it" girl especially when her success doesn't showcase that at all.

I agree. I would have preferred Heaux Tales to have been Album of the Year, it is truly worthy of it. But, that doesn't take anything away from the success I want H.E.R. to experience as well. I have space in my heart for both of these females.

Yeah...No. I will congratulate her on all these amazing achievements but, no, this is not her year for another sweeping win in R&B. Let Jazmine get her flowers.
Heaux Tales was snubbed for that AOTY nom, but we all know this industry won't allow two black girls to peacefully coexist.

The only thing that was worth a nomination was Damage. I can see her winning something for Fight For You because of the Oscar win. Again, her praise just doesn’t measure up to her material. This material has been her weakest. It was definitely not her year for these nominations.

Maybe H.E.R. doesn't deserve her accolades (which is subjective), but some of the misogynistic, sexual and slanderous accusations thrown towards her are uncalled for, and no one can justify disrespecting a woman, especially a black woman, in that way. I don't find it funny at all.

I feel like a broken record with these same nominations each year. I simply do not get it. You'd think she was smashing the charts and having cultural impact with these albums.

well, at least now we know that she was in the Top 8 in the general field categories she got nominated for...
I think she's become a Grammy-darling, it's that simple. people she works and interacts with love her, and her music is good. I'm not the biggest fan of this album but I'm very happy to see "Damage" get nominated. she's like Beck and Brandi Carlile (who somehow managed to get 2 songs in SOTY this year, even though one of them barely made it per the leaked document referenced in the NYT article below, and neither of them made any noise among the masses). if we can tolerate white artists that keep getting nominated, we can tolerate HER imo.
this is the one pitfall of how the Grammys work—it's as much about your connections and likability as it is about the quality and commercial success of your music. it's still more respected than other award ceremonies where rabid fanbases rule the whole thing, but it's not perfect and I'm not sure it can ever be perfect. unless every voter makes it a point to hear every song/album submitted in each of the categories they vote in, they're likely to go with things they've already heard and familiar with, and name recognition plays a big part in that. hopefully when there's only 5/8/10 things per category to compare in this round, their votes can be based more on the music itself.

I'm not mad at her being a Grammy Nom staple. It's great to see some form of R&B is getting the main nom love.

Her music is not that good. She’s an Alicia clone without the decent voice and classic songs. The music world has never been a fair place. I just hope Jazmine can overcome the odds and finally get her due.

H.E.R. definitely has a better singing voice than Alicia Keys.

H.E.R. definitely has a better singing voice than Alicia Keys. Lol funny. No. She has a decent tone; however, nothing more than that. When she first dropped, I kept confusing her with Ella Mae and thought they sounded the same. Let’s not disrespect Alicia! Her tone alone is better than most of these new R&B chicks. HER couldn’t do any of Alicia’s songs justice.

They are both great musicians. However, Alicia has a more widely celebrated discography with multiple #1 crossover smash hits from her first 3 albums + "Empire State of Mind" and "Girl on Fire", which is unmatched even by her generation of female R&B acts. I think most of us are very convinced of H.E.R.'s talent and potential as a musician and our only wish is her team could focus on breaking her actual music outputs into the GP.

(and a bunch of other singers) over Alicia Keys. Let's not let blind stanning and blind hate be deciding factors.

Even on Alicia’s worst day, Alicia sounds better. HER can’t even perform Damage well lived and if you listen to it, you can tell she has a backing track—computerized voice—that makes the song sounds interesting. On Come Through, she sounds dead and Chris Brown is only interesting thing on the track. Don’t get me started. That girl’s voice is only vibe and nothing else. She’s an overproduced product with imaginative hype.

With this year's nominations, it's even more clear to me that the Grammys have a hard-on for H.E.R. because she is a Black female who plays instruments and was co-signed by Prince. That's it.

I want to know what instruments does she play on her latest album. I’m trying to find the album credit. Word on the street, she’s a jack of all trades and master of none. Even when she did an interview, it sounded as if she fooled around with an instrument; however, not consistent enough to be great at it.

She’s an overproduced product with imaginative hype. There's no "narrative." Alicia Keys cannot sing. She strains in every single performance and is never ever on key. And that's been the case since 2001 and has gotten even worse over time to the point that it's extremely noticeable on her current records. I love Alicia's discography, and yes, even better than H.E.R.'s. But NO, she is not a better singer. H.E.R. is selling herself short with some of these rap/sung type songs; I agree. But Alicia is still a garbage singer. All of that can still be true. Sorry.

Yeah I’m not gonna get into an Alicia v HER vocal battle cause I love me both of them.
But to come in here and deny HER her talent when a simple YouTube search can demonstrate the skills she has on the drums, the piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, who knows what else.
The woman is so immensely talented but if all you’re interested in is hits, then really, that’s such a limited scope to consume music.

Say what you want about her music and popularity (or lack thereof), but her talents are evident, and to deny it is such stupidity.
