Someone on Twitter is saying that Ariana put out "No Tears Left to Cry" the day that Avicii died, "The Light Is Coming" the day that XXX died and "Sweetener" the day that Aretha died. Does this all add up?

Or we could just respect the fact that Aretha died before worrying about a f**king chart position R-E-S-P-E-C-T comes in different forms Her life was about music - that is what is being celebrated here. Exactly. Any chart positions she may have next week are absolutely irrelevant to her passing or to her legacy but it's a sign of respect to want to see her remembered by the public that way. Prince is my all-time favorite artist and I was devastated by his death. His amazing showing on the singles and albums chart didn't undo his death or make it less sad but it was nice to see him respected that way. I wish the same for Aretha and her fans.

Wanting high chart positions is one thing but wanting her to pass away at a certain date to get the highest position possible is disrespectful.

Wanting high chart positions is one thing but wanting her to pass away at a certain date to get the highest position possible is disrespectful. Pretty sure that's not what they were thinking. They weren't like "yay! She died on Thursday! Hopefully, she'll chart high!". It was more like "well, at least she died on a Thursday... She's likely to be remembered more". I doubt there was much joy. Think when a parent dies. The child is probably better off if they're too young to remember it too well. Not the best analogy, but I'm sure you get the point.

Date and time of death is irrelevant
Sales/interest spikes last usually 1-2 weeks after the death of a major artist. Some longer
The hour and time then become pointless as all get remembered in their own way.
Remembering the music is what is happening here. If we are thinking "yay she died, now we can get Aretha back on the charts", then those who thought that did not read the posts very carefully.
We all celebrate/grieve/mourn/remember the life of a celebrity differently. In my opinion, no wrong way to do that.

In other news, Madonna turns 60 today. She and Michael Jackson, the Queen and King of Pop, were both born on the same month that the Hot 100 started.

The birth of the Hot 100, not really a major event in music history

Arianaβs terrible music is quite literally killing talented musicians. Your life must be pretty s**tty. I just looked at your most recent posts and literally all of them are something negative or attacking. I went to look to see what artist you liked to say something about them and I literally couldn't find any posts you've made about a singer you like. Maybe you need to up your sex life or smoke some weed or pop a xanny or something cus it seems like you need more positivity in your life.

I hope Ariana Grande gets the entire top 10 on Spotify and Apple Music. I'm so tired of only rappers getting the top ten of streaming platforms.

Would be awesome to see that I sadly don't see it happening though However, I do expect a good streaming presence for the album as both No Tears & GIAW had really big debuts on Spotify So maybe she could sneak those 2 back into the top 10 alongside maybe another album track or two

GIAW reaching top 10 is what I think Ariana's label needs to focus on during release week. It's probably it's best chance.

Maybe 5/10 because I really cant see 10 songs on Sweetener having >=1.7m streams on Spotify. Even on the first day buzz. And I'd actually be very elated if just 1 song from sweetener manages to reach the top ten on AM. I really want Ari to do well

Please. Half of ya'll were speculating about when she's die and how the chart would look afterward as a result. As I said before, not particularly unlike sitting around the table deciding how to split the inheritance of your dying parent. Agree or disagree on whether it's disrespectful but that's what was being discussed.
She's an accomplished human all around and she made her mark. RIP

This site went nuts a few years ago when all the Whitney songs recharted. This should not be any different. Discussing the bigger songs and when or if they will chart again is a form of celebrating the biggest accomplishments of the individual. As we have all seen this happen time and again. Normal for a music message board I think as none of us will be getting any inheritance from this LOL 'Celebrating life' happens differently for different people. Some people choose one method, others choose a different method, sometimes apparently those methods clash with each other

Meh. Agree to disagree but if you run into any of her family members and say "yeah, some friends and I were wondering when she was going to pass because we were curious about how some of her greatest hits would impact the Hot 100. Now we know. Cool!"

Your sarcasm aside Do you really think that a music message board that constantly discusses charts and chart positions and how outside events impact them is really the same thing as being inside the house of a dying family member? I don't know if you have experienced this or not but I have, when I had a family member die, none of us were dreaming about inheritance money, but we were all discussing the family member's favorite accomplishments. Kind of what I see what was going on here. Not that I was speculating about date and time of death but if others were, not sure they were thinking anything morbid. Anyway, the reality is the songs are spiking now on itunes so moot discussion. Time to move on.
