I wonder if some of their callout scores are holding back some of these A-listers especially Keith & Carrie. Both their current singles callout scores are pretty bad. Carrie's already has a high fatigue score (14.0+) which isn't good for a pretty new song. I know callouts usually are negative for female artists, but generally Carrie's scores have been usually good.

Its bullet is very minimal. I don’t understand what they’re doing. Who radio or the label. This chart run is discouraging especially since on Mediabase Eli Young Band just passed her. I wonder if the underperformance of "Cry Pretty" has kind of made radio hesitant with this era. I am fearing that radio wise this album era could go like Miranda Lambert's last one did where the lead single struggles into the Top 15 and followups fail or maybe just scratch the Top 20. The relative poor performance of "Cry Pretty" certainly wouldn't help, and I can see it having hurt. Maybe they thought going with a more traditional-sounding single would work after "CP," but I think they should have gone with something more bold. Plus, "LW" is not going to sell the album, and with the holiday stall at radio quickly approaching, that isn't good news for the album. Also, y'all are talking about Keith Urban's latest, but as of today it has a bigger weekly bullet and daily bullet than "Love Wins."

I'm surprised at how poorly this is doing, too. It definitely wouldn't have been my choice as a single (neither would "Cry Pretty"), but Carrie has released plenty of bad album tracks as singles before. Not sure why this is the time that radio has decided not to get on board.

I mean... Carrie finally comes out to start actively & routinely slamming radio for its gender bias, and she also starts putting out (vaguely) political songs (including this one, as a single) that address topics appealing to left-sided views more than right-sided ones, and she suddenly starts getting derailed at radio? Feels very on-brand and on-track to me.
Cry Pretty is chock full of radio hits & phenomenal, artistic songs. If she suffers in airplay this go-around, it's most certainly not a reflection on her or her output. As mentioned above, even songs like "Mama's Song" went Top 2.

^ I think it's a combination of those factors and also partially due to being at the new label. UMG might not be playing same game like Sony did in terms of radio.
If country radio plan on being stupid this era, I say just concentrate on getting those pop smashes out of DA, Backsliding and TSTWUTMLT instead.

If country radio really is shunning Carrie for calling them out for gender bias, that would be the most ironic thing ever, since Carrie is basically the ONLY female in the past decade and a half that they have consistently supported... So if they stop fully supporting her, they will literally have zero females that they can guarantee a top 5 single with anything they release, which will only make their gender bias even more blatantly obvious. Country radio is digging its own grave if they stop fully supporting country music’s flagship female artist.

It’s amazing. Most other industries have at least paid lip service to more equality. It does seem like country radio is eager to punish anyone- women artists, fans for doing request parties, etc. I hope less and less people listen to CM radio.

I go back and forth, but I don't think this is performing poorly at all. Is it doing as well as past CU singles? No. But there are only two songs younger than this above it: Tim McGraw's lead single and Thomas Rhett.
It really isn't blowing up in sales either. Both this and "Cry Pretty" had very average sales so I don't think it's reasonable to act like this one is a super smash that radio is just ignoring for extracurricular reasons...

Most certainly agreed, but I do think acknowledging the parallels between the performance of the first 2 singles off a new album from the format's biggest female artist + the extracurricular reasons listed above is important and worth keeping in mind. I don't think LW is a strong song, but I can't exactly get behind it not performing well just because of that reason, especially when you look at the quality of 90% of the other songs succeeding at radio (aka, the music being put out by men).

I feel like she needed a different single before this one. This is one of the weaker songs on the album.

I agree with the above posts that its a little crazy its the second single on a new label that seems to want to promote her that is failing (so far). She has had several bad singles before that have made it to the top, so I definitely thought this one would follow suit, as its way more radio-friendly than Cry Pretty was.

I feel like she needed a different single before this one. This is one of the weaker songs on the album. Agree. I think she needed a clear undeniable smash, before trying to slip this one in. This would be ok to attempt as a 4th or 5th single, but not as the important 2nd single.

I wonder if the discrepancy in how this era's singles from Carrie are performing vs the previous eras' singles all going top ten regardless of quality (to each other) and order of release (1st, 2nd, 3rd single etc.) could be in large part attributable to the fact she's with a new label. Since her debut it was Sony promoting her, and they had specific target with her singles etc, and different strategies. The new label may not have the same pull with radio in regards to Carrie's songs.

They're consistently named the #1 promo team in all of Nashville by Billboard, Country Aircheck, Music Row, etc. So I don't think the label change is the problem here.

They didnt have the same history thru her early years with her and programmers and DJs, and might be feeling their way in this era that is quite a but different than when she started out, in regards to what's popular in modern country and how a large part of it's current audience has become mostly listeners that seem to prefer the Male "artists" in country. I dont know if I'm expressing what I'm trying to say very clearly but hopefully someone gets and/or clarifies my point.

I, personally, am kind of tired of her bad singles being rewarded just because she's Carrie Underwood. Hopefully they go with something solid for the third single whenever this peaks.

Still struggling in the 30's. I'm hoping that the label will realize this, and put out something else before the Christmas rush takes over.

I think there are quite a few factors at play as to why this is struggling, one being that this was released in an election year and many radio stations may be more reluctant to play this because of the message it’s promoting. Country radio still caters to a predominantly conservative demographic and I can see how this might be viewed as a polarizing song for PD’s to put in higher rotation. I think once Election Day passes and Carrie performs this at the CMA’s we’ll see “Love Wins” start performing slightly better on the charts, but I think it’s still going to be a struggle to get to the top 20.
Overall I think this is going to end up being a lukewarm era for Carrie as she really needed to deliver a more consistent album and at least in my opinion missed the mark. “Ghosts on the Stereo” will likely be the third single and should bring her back to the top of the charts, but after that she’ll likely struggle again with whichever songs they decide to release. I think after this era we’ll see Carrie and her team go back to the drawing board and maybe rethink the direction they were going in. I’m probably in the minority on Pulse when I say I much prefer the “Smoke Break”/“See You Again” Carrie vs. the “Cry Pretty”/“Something in the Water” Carrie.

I do love this song a ton, but it still isn't near one of my favorites from the album and was too risky of a single choice after Cry Pretty stalled lower than Carrie is used to. "Drinking Alone" and "Backsliding" would have been much more radio-friendly single choices for country radio and I hope one of them is next. I do hope that Love Wins can at least somehow sneak into the top 15, but I'd much rather see it flop and release something else sooner rather than push it for a 30+ week run just to squeeze out a semi-decent peak and then kill all momentum for this era.
I do hope that a killer CMA performance of this (plus the election being over - good point Tim) can help this grow more.

I guess I can kinda understand the reasons people are giving for why this one is struggling a bit, but... I still listen to this and every time I hear it, I think it sounds like a typical Carrie Underwood smash hit, so I also don't really understand. Like, from first listen, this just sounded like something that would do just fine for her on the charts. I also felt like "Cry Pretty" was a huge grower and I was a little perplexed that one was met with such resistance as well. The main takeaway for me from how this is doing and how "Cry Pretty" performed when she hadn't just performed it on TV, is that her single sales aren't up to her usual standard this era, which suggests to me that country radio isn't holding her back all on its own. The promotion for this era has definitely left a lot to be desired imo. I do hope that after the CMAs this one picks up the pace and at least makes the Top 20, because it's already rather disappointing her Top 3 streak got snapped with her last single and it'll be upsetting to see her streak lowered again right away after it was reduced to a Top 10 streak.
"Drinking Alone" seemed to be moving the needle a lot upon release so they could potentially salvage this mess of an era with that one if its the third single (which it really needs to be). I could see songs like "Ghosts on the Stereo" or "Southbound" being safe radio hits for her as a fourth single as well. They better stay the heck away from "That Song..." and "Backsliding" though because I think those would be another notch in the 'miss' column for her if released, at least to country radio. Maybe they could take a stab at pushing one of those to HAC/CHR though since this album was a clear experiment in her trying a bunch of different styles of music (for better or worse).

I’m probably in the minority on Pulse when I say I much prefer the “Smoke Break”/“See You Again” Carrie vs. the “Cry Pretty”/“Something in the Water” Carrie. I think she needs a truly killer performance for people to connect with this song. Even though Cry Pretty stalled - I'm pretty sure it would've performed worse without the ACMs performance. I imagine her pregnancy isn't much of a problem, otherwise, people probably would've brought it up. But, does the fact that she isn't available to promote at radio have anything to do with this song stalling (I'm not sure how often she usually promotes at radio)? I think all that coupled with the fact that this is one of her more least country-sounding songs along with the polarization you mentioned probably has something to do with its performance. I personally listen to this song more than any other on the album because I think its feel-good, hopeful and uplifting. It's not everyone's cup of tea since it doesn't even seem to be a fan favorite and its been criticized for being lukewarm, cheesy and vague.

The two weakest songs from an overall fantastic album were chosen as the first two singles (but CP is still great). They need to dump LW, get a new single ready to push, and promote it heavily after the start of the new year.
(I’m fully aware that that likely won’t happen and we’ll be getting a performance of LW on the CMAs next week.)

She might as well perform "Love Wins" at the CMAs and salvage what can be done with it as a single. Performing something new to then not push it for another 2 months would be odd, and it wouldn't give the new single any momentum. If she were to perform something new, it would need to be a single pretty quickly.

Or, she could perform something new and just not even worry about it being a single or not. See: “Spinning Bottles” at the AMAs, “Ghosts on the Stereo” on Kimmel, Kacey Musgraves literally performing almost the entire GH record on various TV appearances, etc. Wishful thinking, aware it won’t happen, etc.

It's strange to see a Carrie Underwood single somewhat struggling on the charts. However, this song just feels like an album track and doesn't feel like a radio single. I still hear Carrie a lot on the radio, but I feel like it's usually BA or Storyteller singles. Ghosts on the Stereo is an amazing song and I'll be so upset if that one never gets released (though literally ever Carrie album except her debut has one or two songs I thought for sure would be singles and never were, so I expect that will happen here as well). Drinking Alone would also make a great radio single as well. I just hope we don't end up with 6-8 more months of watching Love Wins slowly creep up the charts...I'm hoping it either starts to pick up the pace or after the holidays they move on to something else if it doesn't show any signs of picking up.

Around 5:30 pm everyday and 8:30am every morning I hear either BHC or Blown Away on my commute to work. These songs are being played instead of Cry Pretty or Love Wins. When I hear BHC and Blown Away I'm reminded of how much better those two songs are compared to anything on her current Album. Her new Album has ok songs but nothing that stands out to me.
