BTS IS TCB Back in May, BTSβ Love Yourself: Tear became the first K-Pop album to hit #1. The band appears due to reach that summit once again as their new album, Love Yourself: Answer, seems a lock for #1 next Friday on the HITS Top 50. As always, we must add the caveat that a surprise release could change the outcome. For now, however, that seems unlikely as there are currently no rumors swirling of an impending surprise drop. BTS (Bighit/Columbia) 155-185k total activity, 120-140k album hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=313137

Great numbers for a shit album.
Also, good job putting previous songs from other albums to inflate the numbers.

Great numbers for a s**t album. Also, good job putting previous songs from other albums to inflate the numbers. I read online somewhere it's meant to be a compilation album including some new songs?

Putting out compilations of songs that came out on an album within the last year is asinine. Especially when their fans already have them.

iirc, "repackaging" an album with new songs is pretty common practice in K-pop industry so there's that. Besides, it's not like western acts never do something like that either (Nicki with Roman Reloaded: Re-up, Gaga with Fame Monster, Katy with Complete Confection, etc).
Besides, that kind of number for what essentially is a re-release is pretty darn impressive. It's not like their fans were coerced into buying their stuff.

Thereβs like 27 songs on the album. Songs from their other albums like βDNAβ and βFAKE LOVEβ.

Iβm assuming the 27 songs consists of new songs and then the previous tracks from the Love Yourself trilogy (βHerβ and βTearβ). Itβs not the first time theyβve done this as they did that for their The Most Beautiful Moment in Life series as well.

I didn't really bother to check the album out since I'm not really into them despite everyone around me being so. I forgot whether Billboard have a rule to prevent double counting of a single track in more than one album or not, so eh.

This criticism of including past songs is odd given that the album is generating most of its units from pure sales at a high $17.99 price point.

For people curious about the breakdown of new/old songs, Love Yourself: Answer has:
9 new songs that haven't been on other albums (if you count IDOL as 2 songs) 3 remixes that weren't released on albums previously 1 extended version of a song from Love Yourself: Her 13 songs from LY: Her/LY: Tear

For songs like "DNA", does it contribute towards Love Yourself: Her's SPS (because that's where it originally came from) or Love Yourself: Answer's SPS?

For songs like "DNA", does it contribute towards Love Yourself: Her's SPS (because that's where it originally came from) or Love Yourself: Answer's SPS? I thought the rule was, "for charting purposes, songs that appear on multiple albums by the same artist will be assigned to the highest ranking album on which the song appears." So for this week, streams and sales of DNA would only count for Answer's SPS because it'll be the highest ranking album on which the song appears.

The single is trash and that video gave me a severe headache. Talent lost.

Although it's already been brought up above that it's a common practice to tack on songs in the Kpop world, let's also consider the fact that they are selling 120k-140k. So, regardless if they're trying to use streams of their "hit" songs, they are still poised to be #1 based on that alone and the probably streams of their new songs. (That is of course, Ariana is not too far behind).

I know how big a rabid their fanbase is but I didn't expect their numbers to be quite this high. Didn't think it would beat the SPS of their last debut.

KPop CDs have really great packaging and usually have other freebies so the album becomes a must-have fan merchandise, not surprised they are selling this well. If US acts do a lot more merchandising effort with their CDs, the physical media won't die out completely. Taylor Swift did it with Reputation

The vast majority of the special editions made for the Japan releases are so much better than the ones produced for other markets.

So happy for the turnover at #1. I would hate for Drake to have 13903930 weeks at #1 with that album.

The turnover is partially due to sales completely collapsing. An album like Scorpion, Invasion of Privacy or Beerbongs & Bentleys can only do so much from streaming only, which usually results in around 90k or so.
I think at one point the album chart might end up being completely worthless.

Taylor, Adele, and soundtracks will keep the album Industry stronger than vinyl industry for the foreseeable future. Once those acts start selling under 500k albums will be dead. I think we still have a few years

Not sure the big emphasis on sales as we all know:
Buying an album isn't the only way to "consume " it anymore
