Eminem's surprise release, Kamikaze (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), fights for its right to #1 with no presales. Marshall Mathers’ 10th album has jetted to the apex of both Apple Music and iTunes, where it has four of the Top 10 singles, with "The Ringer" at #1 and “Lucky You” f/Joyner Lucas flying in close formation right below it.
The first full-length from boyband Why Don't We, 8 Letters. (Signature Ent/Atlantic), opens at #2 followed by the second album from Capitol’s Troye Sivan, Bloom (Capitol). Jesus Culture’s live album Living With a Fire (Sparrow Records/Jesus Culture/Capitol Christian) is #4. The seventh album from Amos Lee, My New Moon (Dualtone), was in spired by his experiences performing for patients in hospitals; it’s #5. Alkaline Trio’s Is This Thing Cursed? (Epitaph) dials in at #6. Tash Sultana, the Melbourne, Australia, artist who plays 15 instruments on her Mom+Pop debut Flow State, drifts in at #7. The 10th album from Black Crow/Nettwerk's Passenger, Runaway, is fittingly #10. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=313210

I don't think they are saying it's going to be #1 on the HITS chart. It's #1 on the Apple Music and iTunes charts.

I think Em has the easy #1. Travis will likely dip below 100K this week and BTS is obviously front loaded.

I think it's obvious he'll be #1.

UPDATE:
While the vagaries of a holiday weekend oblige us to add more caveats than usual to our early read on Eminem's surprise drop, Kamikaze (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), the set is definitely achieving altitude on the major streaming platforms as well as retail. There's no physical yet, so that retail is entirely digital.
At the point the set looks like a lock for 200k+. Will it zoom past the first-week flight of Revival, which logged 267k on its maiden voyage last December? Stay tuned.
At Apple Music, Em has the Top 3 tracks ("The Ringer, "Lucky You" f/Joyner Lucas and "Greatest"), eight of the Top 10 and 13 of the Top 20; Kamikaze is also, unsurprisingly, the top album. At iTunes he has the #1 album, three of the Top 4 and four in the Top 10.
At Spotify U.S., he also has the Top 3, six of the Top 10 and 13 of the Top 20. He has 3 of the Top 4 on Spotify's Global chart.
Kamikaze is the #1 digital album at Amazon and "The Ringer" is the #2 track.

Pretty good considering there's much fewer tracks.

Yep, and no big names either like Beyonce or Ed Sheeran.

I'm rooting for Em. It's weird how whenever he takes a long break between albums, he comes back with an underwhelming and flop album (for his standards) and then in less than a year follows it up with a much more well-received project.

The songs from Kamikaze held up pretty well according to yesterday's Spotify update. We'll have to wait and see whether Monday being a holiday helps it by extending the weekend.

Also, Leon Bridges' two albums are in the top 5 of iTunes.

Also, Leon Bridges' two albums are in the top 5 of iTunes. Any reason for this? Did one of his songs get a placement on a major TV show?

Very clever of his team to release it this week as well, no other big releases.

Eminem is on course for his ninth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart next week, according to industry forecasters. His surprise new release, Kamikaze, will easily start with over 225,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 6 -- though its final first-week figure will likely be larger.

Very good numbers for no physical copy and almost 20 years into his career. Wow.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=313227Monday, September 3, 2018 EM'S KAMIKAZE HITS THE STRATOSPHEREEminem's surprise drop Kamikaze is having a marvelous Labor Day weekend on the major streaming platforms as well as retail. There's no physical yet, so that retail is entirely digital. Will Kamikaze fly past Revival, which logged 267k in its first week out last December? If our projection holds up, it will clear that bar with ease. Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 290-330k total activity, 155-170k albumsMarshall has the #1 album at iTunes as well as four of the Top 10 singles, including the #2 (“The Ringer”) and #3 (“Lucky You”) songs. He has seven of Top 10 at Apple Music, including #1 and #2 (the same two in the same order) and #1 album. Spotify U.S.: six in Top 10 with “Lucky You” #1, “The Ringer” #2. Spotify Global: “The Ringer” #1, “Lucky You” #3, “Greatest” #4 Kamikaze is the #1 digital album at Amazon, and "The Ringer" is the top-selling track.

300k would be fantastic for Em at this point. Marshall outsells all of his peers, no other big hip-hop artist from that era is still doing this well. Jay did 262k last year which is good, but Em still managed to beat him with Revival and he's gonna pass him even further with Kamikaze. The only other artist in general from that era that can still move records is Pink.

P!nk didn't crak 200k sps without ticket bundle's 240k ish sales. JT - Man of the Woods 293,000 Eminem - Revival 267,000 they're pretty much same group to me. both can still move numbers. that's all.

As a general reminder, I'd say the first week is now more irrelevant than before.. If a big touring act has a bundle, it can easily cross 200k (look at Kenny Chesney's live album) but what happens after that is what matters considering the legacy of the album.
