Luis Fonsi's 'Calypso' Hits No. 1 on Latin Airplay Chart
9/12/2018 by Pamela Bustios
Plus: J Balvin, Zion & Lennox and Carlos Vives log new top 10s across Latin charts.
Luis Fonsi’s “Calypso” vaults 5-1 on the Latin Airplay chart (dated Sept. 15), securing his ninth No. 1 on the list. The song takes the week’s Greatest Gainer honors (up 42 percent to 15.5 million audience impressions) in the week ending Sept. 9, according to Nielsen Music.
The tune originally only featured Stefflon Don, but Karol G later jumped onboard for a remix, which is likely sparking the surge in audience gains. “Calypso” also gives Don her first leader and Karol G her second.
Notably, out of Fonsi's nine No. 1s, “Calypso” marks his third collaborative leader. All three of those, however, credit him in a lead role. The other two collaborations? “Despacito” with Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, which led the chart for 19 weeks, and “Echame La Culpa” with Demi Lovato, which reigned for one week (Jan. 20).
Meanwhile, further down the list, J Balvin enters the top 10 for the sixth time in 2018, as “No Es Justo” with Zion & Lennox moves 11-9 with 9 million in audience.
The lift earns him his 15th top 10 on the tally, while Zion & Lennox, their 10th. The two acts previously teamed up for an earlier chart hit, “Otra Vez” (Zion & Lennox featuring Balvin), which reached No. 1 (Nov. 5, 2016).
Lastly, Carlos Vives marks his 18th top 10 on the Latin Pop Songs airplay tally with “Hoy Tengo Tiempo (Pinta Sensual),” as the song soars 16-7 (up 26 percent in spins). Vives secures his first top 10 of the year. He last visited the region when “Robarte Un Beso” with Sebastián Yatra peaked at No. 4 in 2017.
Concurrently, “Hoy” commands the Tropical Songs list for a third consecutive week.

6ix9ine's 'BEBE' Feat. Anuel AA Debuts at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs Chart
9/12/2018 by Pamela Bustios
The all-Spanish track is the first to debut at No. 1 in nearly two years.
Rapper 6ix9ine makes his Latin chart debut with “BEBE” as the Spanish language song, featuring Anuel AA, bows at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart (dated Sept. 15).
Notably, “BEBE” is the first song to debut at No. 1 on the chart in nearly two years, since Shakira’s “Chantaje,” featuring Maluma, opened atop the Nov. 19, 2016-dated list.
The tune, released via ScumGang/TenThousand Projects/UMLE/Caroline on Aug. 31, opens in the penthouse mostly on the strength of streams and digital sales. It collected 24.7 million U.S. streams and 10,000 in downloads sold in week ending Sept. 6, according to Nielsen Music.
The video has already amassed over 91 million YouTube global views through Sept. 11.
While it is both acts first chart leader and 6ix9ine’s first chart entry, it earns Anuel AA his first top 10, besting his No. 16 peak with “Brindemos” featuring Ozuna (Aug. 25-dated chart). Since first arriving on the chart dated May 28, 2016, Anuel has now charted 13 entries on the Hot Latin Songs; more than half of those (8) debuted in 2018. (The Hot Latin Songs chart blends airplay, digital sales, and streams data.)
Concurrently, the song debuts in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (at No. 30). It is 6ix9ine’s second-highest debut following “FEFE” featuring Nicki Minaj & Murda Beatz, which debuted at No. 4 on the Aug. 4-dated tally. For Anuel AA, “BEBE” earns him his first chart entry on the Hot 100.
Elsewhere, the song lands atop both the Latin Streaming Songs and Latin Digital Songs charts. It's the first chart leader for both acts.
