My phone showed this to me as an article this morning.
I wasn't surprised but still angry - these racist, misogynists in suits, thinking they own the world......

The funny thing about careers in pop music and time spent at the top of the singles chart. It is finite. Once you get older things start to slow down.
At the time of the Super Bowl, in 2004, Janet Jackson was 37, pushing 38 and had been churning out hit singles at that time for 20 years. You would have to wonder how many more years on top would she have had anyway? Two? Three?
Granted the time is different for all but the general trend it seems is that the number one hits seem to slow down a bit as you get older.
Justin Timberlake is now as old as Janet was then. He too will find that the number one hits will stop sooner rather than later.

With Janet, keep in mind that in 2004 she had already been declared an icon/legend. Moonves wasn't just trying to end her career, he was trying to strip her of her legacy. And for a long while, it actually worked. That's the most disturbing thing of all, that one man could have enough power to undo 20 years of work in the general public's mind just b/c he didn't get an "adequate" apology. Fawk him. I probably should be angry about it just on principle, but TBH this just makes all the accolades Janet is receiving now that much sweeter. Glad he's still alive to see it. gives a whisper-Janet chuckle

What we need to discuss is the motives that drove this man to attempt to sabotage Janet Jackson's career and, in turn, her legacy.

I've always been of the opinion Damita Jo would have flopped and that she was about to transition to a "legacy act" that point regardless, but I agree with all of this: With Janet, keep in mind that in 2004 she had already been declared an icon/legend. Moonves wasn't just trying to end her career, he was trying to strip her of her legacy. And for a long while, it actually worked. Granted the time is different for all but the general trend it seems is that the number one hits seem to slow down a bit as you get older. Justin Timberlake is now as old as Janet was then. He too will find that the number one hits will stop sooner rather than later. Agreed that the charts are one measure of success and influence, but even if Janet was done ruling the Hot 100, having her music esssentially muted from public consciousness proved to cause significant damage. For fans, we’ll never know what could’ve been of a Damita Jo tour, and even the tours she was able to launch were severely impacted. Janet lost out on some major movie roles, both from a production and acting standpoint. And even today as any statistician would know, her music remains essentially undiscovered to a whole generation of potential fans, because they didn’t grow up hearing anything about her they way they heard about Madonna, Mariah or Beyoncé. So to me, it makes a difference when the truth comes out that this wasn’t some ‘national reaction’ to the Super Bowl incident, but rather this was a blacklist orchestrated by one powerful, overly PRIVILEGED male executive. If it was truly about the $550k fine, Moonves could’ve just sued Janet and been done with it. But to be so vindicative as to try and wipe her off the map? That’s a strange mix of racism, sexism and jealousy that most of us couldn’t have imagined. Pathetic and unforgivable. However many ‘good years’ she had left on one chart, she didn’t deserve to have them eradicated in this manner.

He tried it but in the history books they will be talking about Janet Jackson and if anything is written about him, it will say disgusting sexual deviant.

Kathy Griffin went in on him and Julie Chen over this Janet news. She's ruthless. Rightfully so. The media scrutiny and sabotage was so overwhelming back in 2004.
