This one pretty much always hovered around the cusp of the top 20 throughout the submissions, easily besting all the other selections from this album. In the end, however, Three Chords and the Truth becomes the first album era to completely bite the dust in this rankdown as its title track becomes our earliest casualty inside the top 20. Despite missing the top 40 of the country charts upon release and failing to break her out as a star, this tune has held up in popularity among her early material thanks to its timeless hook. A neotraditional weeper, "Three Chords and the Truth" tells the story of a woman who leaves her man behind only to realize in the middle of a song on the radio that she made a mistake. Ranks for this one were rather divisive, likely due to its different sonic nature compared to the bulk of her later material, but this one wasn't without its fans as several take a big hit to their top 10s here (including a pair of #2s). No one ranked this one in their bottom 5, but a sizable chunk of lists placing this one in the 31-35 range just outside of it prevented it from advancing further. "I turned on the radio And a voice came over sweet and low And I didn't know the tears were gonna start But what amazed me even more Is I'd never heard that song before But somehow I knew each word by heart"

Robbed. “Three Cords” was one of my early favorites from her, so I’m sad to see it gone so soon.

Up next, we flip from one of her earliest singles to follow it up with one of her most recent hits. "My Heart Can't Tell You No," a brooding number dealing with the torture of being unable to move on from someone she loves, was released on the heels of Sara Evans' big comeback hit in 2011 and narrowly missed out on a top 20 finish on the country charts... while here it lands just inside that same threshold. This marks the second loss from Stronger, leaving behind only its title track still in the running. Originally written as a country song, it was recorded instead by Rod Stewart in the late 80s, until Sara covered it over two decades later and reverted it back into the country tune it was intended to be. Unfortunately with this reveal, we welcome our second #1 loss of the game as @xfer's pinnacle Sara track is told "no" by the majority here. A trio of additional top 5 ranks also fall here, and a large number of ranks in the teens as well, but about half of the participants put this one in the bottom half of their lists and it is unable to get the support needed to make it any further. "I don't want you to call me up no more, Saying you need me You're crazy if you think just half your love Could ever please me"

Coming in with less than a 10-point difference over the second single from Stronger, we see the second single from Slow Me Down follow it right out the door! "Put My Heart Down" is sung from the perspective of a woman who is in a toxic relationship telling her lover to leave because she's done trying to make it work, and features a catchy and big-voiced chorus vocal from Sara Evans. Ill-fated on the charts from the start due to a late and messy release after the peak of "Slow Me Down" roughly 4 months earlier and given minimal push as her final single under her mainstream contract at RCA before striking out independent with her own record label, this song is the last one of Sara's to grace the airplay charts at all, almost exactly four years ago. Kanenrá:ke winds up alone on an island in his strong support of this one as his #2 is the only top 5 loss for this one, as most of y'all chose to support it by ranking it closer to the middle. It did narrowly make austin's top 10 and came close on a number of other lists, however, and it only made the bottom 10 of sabre14's list. "So pack up all your things and just leave some air to breathe A million toxic tears falling like rain 'round here This is the final hour The end of our story tonight And I don't wanna fight"

MHCTYN deserved way better (on the charts and on this rankdown). Such a well written song, and that chorus is heavenly (even though its lyrical content is vulnerable and heartbreaking... quite the opposite of heavenly). Will always be one of my favorites by her.

Sara Evans' home state anthem, "Missing Missouri," is shown the door out of this rankdown a few spots shy of the top 15. It had an impressive run as the final standing non-single as it secured a spot ahead of even one of the actual hit singles from Real Fine Place, though three more from said record still remain in the running. A rousing and upbeat jam, the song details the relieving aspect of coming back home to where one grew up and being able to turn off and recharge from life on the road, and managed to rack up enough unsolicited airplay to be able to chart at #52 on the country charts in 2006. We our second personal #1 casualty of the top 20 reveal so far as this time someguy loses his top Sara tune. No one else ranked it quite that high, but a handful of others see a blow to their top 10 (myself included), and most of us lose something from our upper half, with a few exceptions like the three who placed it bottom 10. "The road just ain't no place for whiners It's motels, truck stops, all-night diners Hoping that your song'll sell And having to smile when it ain't doin' well"

After just losing the second single, we quickly bid farewell to the title track, sole top 20 radio hit (and last to date for Sara Evans), and final remnant of the Slow Me Down era here just one spot -- and about 13 points shy -- of the top 15 here. "Slow Me Down" is a dramatic number with an eerie incorporation of plucked strings and an explosive chorus both vocally and instrumentally that finds Sara Evans hoping that as she walks out on her man that he'll take the opportunity to stop her while he still has the chance. The song is also memorable for Sara's wedding dress look in the video and for NASCAR driver Carl Edwards starring as her love interest. It has the distinction of being our first reveal to not have a single bottom 10 placement. What ultimately held it back was a lack of fervent support up top as nobody ranked it in their top 5 and it only received a few lower top 10s, despite making most people's top 20s. "The wheels are turning in my mind Don't want to leave, but I might this time"

The reason I can't listen to "Slow Me Down" IS because of the vocals... I honestly can't stand her vibrato in the verse. It's not all Sara's fault though and I wouldn't even say her delivery is to blame, whoever wrote that vocal arrangement needs to take a few more musical theory classes because what they came up with is absolutely cringeworthy IMO. Yeah so I listened again and it's definitely the composer's fault. omg.

Glad to see “Three Chords and the Truth” sneak into the top 20. It’s always been one of my favorites and I remember seeing the video quite a bit during the summer of 1997. I also love how Sara’s voice and the fiddle arrangement blend so well together…and there’s that steel guitar again! I almost snuck “My Heart Can’t Tell You No” into my top 10 but I opted to put the former song in that spot instead. I absolutely love everything about this song from what is yet another great vocal performance by Sara to the production with the steel guitar and lyrical arrangement. Everything just flows so smoothly that I can’t help but get sucked into it. It’s hard not to get pulled into the chorus on “Put My Heart Down” and I find it be quite infectious. Not one of her songs that I immediately reach out to play often but I do enjoy it. You don’t have to be from “Missouri” for this song to make you feel nostalgic about missing home. This is also one of my favorite songs to put on in the summer especially on a road trip as the open road and blue clear sky is a perfect match for this tune. Perfect ranking for “Slow Me Down”! Does Sara ever not look gorgeous in her videos?!? "Coalmine" does not deserve a spot in the Top 15 over "Slow Me Down". I love "Slow Me Down" and she sounds amazing on it, unlike that other song.

You may not have to be from Missouri to enjoy “Missing Missouri”. But if you are from the “Show Me” state you legit thought it was a single because it got played so much there. Also I’ve always found it interesting that the Cardinals get a shout out in the song, even though I am pretty certain Sara is Royal’s fan. I’m proabably wrong about that? I believe she helped them tweak the lyrics slightly. Although being the Cardinals fan I am (and most Missourians are) I enjoy it endlessly.

I knew "Missing Missouri" was on borrowed time at this point, so I was expecting it to leave. I'm glad it lasted as long as it did, being an album track. It's easily my favourite thing that she's ever done though. It was such a missed opportunity as a single.

I am missing the true meaning of the clue, but it’s giving me “As If” vibes for some reason. It also seems like it’s about time for that one to go. The level of sarcasm leds me to believe it might be “Cheatin’ too.

I'm thinking "As If" as well, but I can see it being "I Keep Looking".
'Put My Heart Down" is sooo catchy and I love her vocals on it. I knew it wouldn't make the top 10 and was even worried for the top 20 so I'm glad with it's results!

I'm about 95% sure of this prediction. raylatch98 wins! It didn't cross my mind that the concept for the "As If" video is also reminiscent of the one she did for "Cryin' Game" ten years earlier, but yeah, the Jana Kramer video reminded me of that music video. We say goodbye to the lead single from the No Place That Far record. Despite being a catchy radio-friendly ditty and noticeably more modern than the dated debut era preceding it, "Cryin' Game" totally bombed on the country charts. Pulse seems to hold it in a much more favorable light than country radio, however, as it lands in the top 15 here, outlasting several far bigger hits. Kanenrá:ke unfortunately loses his #1 here so this reveal might leave him teary-eyed, and possibly the other nine who ranked it top 10. On the other hand, happy tears may be shed by the three who plopped this one in their bottom 10. "Tell me truth don't tell me lies Don't want to hear no alibis I've been down that road before Ain't gonna play the crying game no more"
