Lol I'm exaggerating guys chill Radio isn't dead, but I do find a problem with the #19th streaming song being #1 because of it's radio dominance. It'll be around on radio for a long ass time judging by how the overall AI has been and GLY is just lingering, and because of that, it'll stick around for a long time. Same BS with Perfect, Shape of You, and possibly Meant to Be. It sounds like your issue is with radio holding onto songs for a long time rather than the Billboard Hot 100 formula. If you look at the Top 20 overall airplay, a lot of it is extremely stale. You can't blame Billboard for radio choosing to spin the hell out of certain songs.

Radio is not a dead nor dying metric but...
This millenium thus far, Radio's strongest years were:
1) 2004 - 2005. 2) 2014 - 2015.
The years 2004 & 2005 had the most Airplay number-ones peak over 170M AI via. Neilsen BDS and 200M AI via. Mediabase, and the years 2014 & 2015 followed suit too. 2006 & 2016 were relatively strong years also.
Radio's weakest years were 2008 & 2009, and 2018 has been the weakest this decade thus far.
The current Airplay number-one is and has been posting sub-125M AI for multiple weeks, the lowest total since 2009 - "Blame It; Knock You Down; Best I Ever Had; You Belong With Me" etc.
Early this year "The Middle" peaked at 112M AI. The lowest total since 2000 when Sisqo's "Thong Song" topped Radio songs with 110M AI.
The lowest OVERALL Airplay number-one this century is Aaliyah's "Try Again" which peaked at 90M AI.

Thanks, this is interesting. Although surely the methodology used to estimate audience impressions has changed during this period? Meant To Be stands out this year on radio. I remember its peak AI being SO HIGH compared to what we've been used to for most of the rest of this year.

Bradley Cooper Scores First Billboard Hot 100 Hit With Lady Gaga Duet 'Shallow' From 'A Star Is Born'
10/8/2018 by Xander Zellner
The ballad launches at No. 28.
Bradley Cooper earns his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Oct. 13), as “Shallow,” with Lady Gaga, arrives at No. 28.
After the actor made his first Billboard chart visit last week, the song debuts on the Hot 100 following its first full week of tracking. It bows with 8.3 million U.S. streams and 58,000 downloads sold in the week ending Oct. 4, according to Nielsen Music, as it jumps from No. 14 to No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart (marking Gaga's sixth leader on the list).
While the track scores Cooper his first Hot 100 entry, Gaga earns her 21st top 40 hit (among 27 total entries).
The duet is "definitely an event record," says Nikki Chuminatto, music director at WTMX Chicago, which played it 31 times last week.
"Shallow" is the focus track from A Star Is Born, which premiered in theaters on Friday, the same day that its soundtrack was released. The song was co-written by Gaga, Mark Ronson, former Dirty Pretty Things vocalist Anthony Rossomando and Miike Snow vocalist Andrew Wyatt.
The A Star Is Born soundtrack features four other Gaga/Cooper duets, along with five solo Cooper cuts and eight songs solely by Gaga. Writing credits on the set include Jason Isbell, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Lukas Nelson and Natalie Hemby.
Cooper makes his directorial debut with A Star Is Born and co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay for the film. He portrays musician Jackson Maine, who discovers Gaga's character Ally, in the latest remake of the original 1937 movie starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The film was adapted into a musical in 1954 starring Judy Garland and remade as a musical in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
As previously reported, Maroon 5's "Girls Like You," featuring Cardi B, leads the Hot 100 for a third week and Lil Wayne becomes the first artist to debut two songs in the top five simultaneously.

The number 1 song in America is #19 on streaming .... The #2 song in America is #76 on iTunes and has 0 airplay. What's your point? And the biggest selling song is #28 All this happens when songs do not hit well on all components

I'm so happy for Lil Wayne. Amazing to see Tha Carter V, an album that was delayed because of label issues and complications, finally get released and still perform this well commercially. I see what you did...

The #2 song in America is #5 on the Digital Song Sales chart this week. So you’re saying that despite being #5 on Digital Song Sales for the week, it’s already down to #76 by the time the chart was even published? That doesn’t sound like a particularly strong #2, let alone #1. I'm talking about the chart dated October 13. If Mona Lisa is #999 on iTunes today it has nothing to do with last week's chart.

Lil Wayne got 4 top 10s, #1 would be too much.

Yup - based on chart performance, Alicia Key's No One seemed like the decade airplay #1 (it spent the same amount in the top 10 that airplay monsters like We Belong Together & Yeah spent in the top 20) No One (2008): 14 weeks at #1, Top 10 - 28 weeks We Belong Together (2005): 16 weeks at #1, Top 10 - 25 weeks, Top 20 - 29 weeks Yeah (2004): 12 weeks at #1, Top 10 - 24 weeks, Top 20 - 29 weeks

I'd like Girls Like You to stay at 1 if the next song in contention is Lucid Dreams. It can stay at 1 until another hopeful song comes to take the lead. Lucid Dreams is not a 1 worthy song.

It would've been interesting to see how long "Perfect" really could've held on with the new recurrent rule imo

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but 6 years ago Maroon 5 blocked the #1 streaming song Gangnam Style because of it's radio dominance with One More Night and everyone erupted over it.
Also the people bitching about GLY being #19 streaming probably also complained when Harlem Shake hit #1 because it was streaming dominant.

The number 1 song in America is #19 on streaming .... The #2 song in America is #76 on iTunes and has 0 airplay. What's your point? Because streaming is way more popular than sales and radio. It is by far the most popular way people consume music. That's the point. Billboard weights sales and radio way more than they really should be.
