My only issue with radio is... I know not that many people are listening to the radio anymore. And I know the “older folks” argument but still let’s be real here there’s no way it’s pulling in that much audience impressions That's my issue with it, too. The audience impressions are largely exaggerated and all that for a metric that isn't controlled in any way by the listener. Listeners get to choose which songs/albums/artists they get to stream. They get to choose which songs they get to download digitally. They get to choose which artists they pay to see on tour. All of this is controlled by the fan/listener. All but radio. While it's true that audience numbers need adjusting regularly, and aren't as scientifically accurate as a stream or a sale, it's also true that people who listen to the radio do it because they choose to. They choose to listen to stations that play the music they like, and they choose to not change the channel. It's really no different than choosing to listen to curated Spotify playlists all day, as many do I'm sure. Many people enjoy music being played for them in a more passive way, whether it's via radio or streaming.

Remember when Ed Sheeran having two top 10 debuts was a big deal? Literally anyone can do that or better now...

Listeners dictate what is played on the radio - they always have --- just as not as "real time" as streaming though

Remember when Ed Sheeran having two top 10 debuts was a big deal? Literally anyone can do that or better now... Just goes to show how dominant the Beatles were in the 60s. Many of the Beatles records stood for decades until Drake and the gang started to dismantle them in the streaming era. The Beatles did what they did without the benefit of real-time tracking of sales and plays and without the benefit of being able to debut 22 singles in one week The next few years will now be about matching or beating Drake

Billboard will try tho.

Rap at number 1? People complain. Non rap at number 1? People complain. Whatever the situation, not everyone is going to be happy.

The way some of y'all are popping off about Mona Lisa being two with literally zero airplay makes me think that y'all just want the Hot 100 to be 75% steams, 20% Airplays and 5% Sales lol.
Just like in 2015, Number 1 sales =\= Number one on the Hot 100. Its the same now but with streams. Crazy to think but there are actually people that still listen to the radio, wild I know.

I can't believe y'all thing AI is way off and radio is dead. It's certainly not at its peak, but radio is still a very popular medium for music. Get out of your circles every once in a while and you'll notice just how many people still indeed listen to the radio. Airplay has always been important to the music industry and still is, there's no way it will be leaving the Hot 100 anytime soon. Digital sales will leave before airplay.
Also, y'all didn't deserve "Perfect." It died for your souls.

Streaming isn't weighed heavily enough imo
I'm not good at all with the numbers but 65% streaming 30% radio 5% sales seems good to me but uhhh I might be way off

Lol I'm exaggerating guys chill
Radio isn't dead, but I do find a problem with the #19th streaming song being #1 because of it's radio dominance. It'll be around on radio for a long ass time judging by how the overall AI has been and GLY is just lingering, and because of that, it'll stick around for a long time. Same BS with Perfect, Shape of You, and possibly Meant to Be.

Lil Wayne Charts 22 Songs From 'Tha Carter V' on Billboard Hot 100
10/8/2018 by Xander Zellner
= He ties Drake with a record 22 debuts in a single week.
As Lil Wayne celebrates his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Oct. 13) -- thanks to Tha Carter V opening with 480,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music -- a hefty 22 tracks from the set debut on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Mona Lisa," featuring Kendrick Lamar, and "Don't Cry," featuring XXXTentacion, lead the way at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively, as Wayne becomes the first act to ever debut two songs in the Hot 100's top five simultaneously. Following is "Uproar" at No. 7 and "Let It Fly," featuring Travis Scott, at No. 10, which brings Lil Wayne's total number of top 10s to 22, passing JAY-Z for the second-most top 10s on the Hot 100 among rappers, after Drake's 31.

Lil Wayne further matches Drake's record 22 debuts in a single week; Drake first set the mark on July 14. Meanwhile, in the Hot 100's 60-year history, only Drake has landed more songs on the chart simultaneously than Lil Wayne (22 total this week), logging a record 27 overall on July 14.

Girls Like You blocked Mona Lisa. Wayne with one of his best performances in years, loses his #1 debut to Levine putting absolutely no effort with his voice. I hate the charts so much.

Girls Like You is not the biggest song in America, just because it gets a lot of radio play doesn't mean it's actually the biggest song. The weight that radio has needs to be hella dropped tbh Radio weight needs to go up lol, more people listen to radio then they stream

Maybe you care too much about charts? I mean, Wayne will be fine. This is a massive rebound from where he was chart wise in the last few years. And I'm glad stuff like that song or Nonstop haven't gone #1 yet. These album bomb songs die so fast... although it will happen eventually. Peaks are starting to become meaningless without context (i.e. Don't Matter to Me going top 10 versus a song like FRIENDS or Back to You missing top 10)
