Wow better first week sales than radio males Morgan Evans, Jimmie Allen, Chris Lane, Michael Ray, and Jordan Davis combined...

Radio is playing those guys in high rotation while PA will be lucky to scrape top 50

How about it being similar to both Dustin Lynch and Kip Moore's first week of their third album? Current Mood: 27k pure sales, 36k SPS Slowheart: 25k pure sales, 29k SPS or Dan + Shay for that matter? (24k pure sales and 44k SPS)

Point is that radio shoves safe generic fluff down our throats and in reality stuff like this is what's moving the needle for consumers. Time for radio to wake up!
Nice comeback numbers for the ladies.

Radio and sales are different though. When the sales and streaming fall off after this week, should their sales still be an indication of where you think they should be radio wise? Or does it only count for first week sales?

They didn't get a "massive promo push," and having a single with millions of audience impressions on country radio to promote an album is a huge 'get' for any artist and they didn't have that. Miranda's name recognition probably helps them more than anything, but there's definitely a lot more interest in them/their music than country radio would indicate, and also a lot less for most of those male artists than country radio may suggest.

Or does it only count for first week sales? Yes, because there's a very obvious interest from the public in hearing their product.

Or does it only count for first week sales? No of couse it doesn't only count for the first week. How are all the artists I mentioned doing in sales after week 1? Still pretty bad. The only artist who (so far) had terrible first week numbers but is now trending a lot better is Morgan Wallen. My point is...radio, who essentially forces all the artists I mentioned onto us, gave those fellas a LOT of airplay with which they could generate interest and consumption for their albums...didn't happen. These girls, on the other hand (like Kacey Musgraves), show that people want to hear their music...and with no help from radio, sold more. Radio can and should play whatever their consumers want to hear...that's not what happens here. When you have giant corporations controlling the majority of the stations, it doesn't matter what John and Sue want to hear on their hometown station on the way to work. They hear what the CEO says to play...right now that's Evans, Lane, Allen, Tenpenny, Ray, etc. Not Pistol Annies.

I like the album, but I have a dumb question. What does "Didn't put no money on your commissary" mean? The only commissary I know is the grocery store my parents get to go to because they're retired military. I know you can spend money AT it, but I don't know how you put money ON it. I Googled the phrase but couldn't find anything. (Told you it was dumb! Sorry!)

There are three ways an inmate can get money into their commissary account. The first way an inmate can get money for their commissary account is by working a job within the institution, usually for a menial pay. The second way is if the inmate has some sort of trust fund, inheritance, or legal settlement. The last way is by friends and family members sending them money. In case of this song she is saying that she did not give any money to the family member who is in prison.

I'm just going to throw this out there, how many listeners of The Pistol Annies or Kacey Musgraves that have bought the albums are radio listeners? Because I feel like their music doesn't cater or translate to the average radio listener compared to all the artists already listed.

They probably aren't listening to the radio, because they aren't playing the music they want to hear on the radio, which brings us back to the problem of radio not playing what people actually want.

My two cents is that radio should get money from adverts - for advertising purposes the more people listening the better. If this bro country love fest on radio selected the listeners for people that like that type of music, the rest probably opted for alternative ways to consume music - spotify, applemusic, etc. Which to me explains why we are getting fewer and fewer women on radio - they get less play, people that love them move on, and thus becomes a cycle. The narrow minded view of radio will also prove its downfall from my perspective - 10 years ago having a successful career without radio was utopic, but now look at Kacey Musgraves. Give it another 20 years and we are all going to be listening to music taylormade for our tastes.
I would say the Pistol Annies had minimal promo - a couple of performances, virtually no radio play and a handful of shows to support the album - given that I think the sales numbers are great. And this album is miles better than anything Morgan Evans and company put out recently.

HDD slightly elevated the prediction: 28-31k pure sales and 31-34k SPS. #12 overall.
