WU-WOO?

Much chatter around the biz has surrounded the iTunes dominance of Chinese pop star Kris Wu, who's had multiple tracks on the singles Top 10 and his full-length, Antares (on Chinese imprint Ace Unit Culture Media, via Interscope) at #1 on the album side. As we know, Ariana Grande's new single, "thank u, next," has been #1 on Spotify and Apple Music since its arrival over the weekend and is only kept from the top spot at iTunes by three Wu tracks.

Tech-world nerds believe the Wu phenomenon at iTunes springs from Chinese fans who couldn't yet buy his music in their home territory... and so spoofed the system with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Wu's music is due to become available in China imminently; once that happens, these same nerds say, things should normalize on the iTunes chart.

The fans' subterfuge has sparked no small amount of grumbling from the Grande camp, especially her fans. How will all this be reflected on the charts? Will the President call it a rigged election and voter fraud from China? Stay tuned.

I haven’t heard more people talk about a song since IMF over the summer like I have with TUN truly a hit right here, if it doesn’t hit #1 this week it will next week. This is her #1 smash hit.

This is how you handle gimmicks/all forms of cheating. If Billboard had an ounce of integrity, they would've done the same with bundles and other nonsense.

It appears they've essentially blacklisted the Explicit album product and its contents on the charts. The Clean album is in the 100-120 range right now on iTunes.

Ariana Grande dropped her new single "thank u, next" just a few days ago, and the song has truly taken over Twitter since.

Fans were moved by her shout-out to "Malcolm," referring to her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, whom she called "an angel" in the song. They also praised Grande -- who was named Billboard's 2018 Woman of the Year on Tuesday (Nov. 6) -- for her strength and inspiring determination to move on after her recent breakup with ex-fiancé Pete Davidson.

A tweet from Grande on Friday marked the first appearance of the phrase "thank u, next," and since then, "thank u, next" has appeared in more than 1.5 million tweets and Ariana Grande has been mentioned in more than 3.4 million tweets.

Of course, the song lyrics provided the perfect opportunity to create memes. In the past 48 hours, this trend gathered more than 240,000 tweets, peaking Monday night around 10 p.m. ET with 16,000 tweets posted in one hour.

Bohemian Rhapsody has the best shot at all. This week it is above Africa on Hot Rock Songs and that song has just left the Hot 100. Although I don't know if it could chart on Hot 100 or go to Recurrents.
