What hits are well-known in the US (and also in Canada and Oceania whose charts are relatively similar with american charts) but not in worldwide ?
Recent example : Boo'd Up by Ella Mai

"Bad at Love" - Halsey
Hit #5 in the US last year. Went only #22 in Canada, #42 in Australia, and failed to reach the Top 100 in the UK.

Basically every rap song that isn’t by Post Malone, Drake or Eminem. Or Kendrick.

A bunch of alternative rock from the late 90s. Tonic’s If You Could Only See was pretty successful in the US and Canada, but only charted at 20 in Australia and 100 in the Netherlands. The Verve Pipe’s The Freshmen also charted only in those four countries. Another one that’s not so alternative is Duncan Sheik’s Barely Breathing. It only charted in the US and Canada.

The majority of US genres are the definition of local, tbh. We only export pop and warfare.

The majority of US genres are the definition of local, tbh. We only export pop and warfare. The savagery. To be fair, I can't speak for every non-US region but I do know that back in the day (definitely the 90's and 2000's, possibly earlier as well) Australia would get the big pop crossover hits from the US (like, the R&B or alt hits that got huge on the Hot 100 or something) so this is not actually 100% true.

And while my mind’s still fresh on alternative let’s talk about the opposite. Popular worldwide hits that never charted in the US. Spaceman by Babylon Zoo. #1 in at least 11 countries, top ten in almost every country charted. It even got onto Canada’s Alternative chart. But never even touched by US charts, and I just can’t understand why. Rock was pretty big in 1996, and it would’ve been successful on alternative stations.

One sweet day by Mariah Carey and B2M. It was a HUGE success in the US, but failed to reach similar success in other countries.

Pretty much any country song. Those aren’t even known in many regions of the US itself!

Anyway Shania Twain remains the only country singer to have managed to sell in worldwide. I don't count Taylor Swift who became successful overseas with pop songs.

I'm talking about Europe, Australia & Asia. Bar Spain he's surprisingly underperforming in those countries. Even at countries which Latin music is popular like my country.....

Love on the brain-Rihanna Peaked at #5 in the U.S and pretty much flopped everywhere else. The US exhibiting taste for once! Regarding 'We Belong Together', it hit #1 in Australia and top five in the UK, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, El Salvador, New Zealand so while it didn't match its enormous US success, it was a very sizable international hit. And since it's been brought up, does anyone have any insight into how Shania was able to crossover so successfully in international markets? It's pretty wild that she matched COO's success abroad.

That Don't Impress Me and Don't Be Stupid had remixes, but most of it was simply because of World Class bops.

I seriously doubt Bad Bunny is underperforming in countries where Latin Music is popular. Anyways, why would music in Spanish be popular in those regions? There's literally nothing surprising about that. It's like saying how surprising that Marília Mendonça is "underperforming" outside of Brazil or Portugal.
