Kane Brown's 'Experiment' Eyeing No. 1 Bow on Billboard 200 Albums Chart 11/13/2018 by Keith Caulfield
Kane Brown accepts the Favorite Male Artist - Country award onstage during the 2018 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on Oct. 9, 2018 in Los Angeles.
Plus: Imagine Dragons, Trippie Redd and Lil Peep could debut in top 10, while The Beatles’ White Album set for top 10 return.
Kane Brown’s new album Experiment is heading for No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. Those in the know suggest the set, which was released on Nov. 9 via Zone 4/RCA Nashville, may earn over 130,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 15. If the set starts atop the list, it would mark both Brown’s first leader and the third country effort to reach No. 1 in 2018.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the Nov. 24-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Experiment may debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Experiment is Brown’s second full-length studio album, following his self-titled set, which was released in 2016. The album peaked at No. 5 on the Oct. 28, 2017-dated tally, after it was reissued with bonus tracks. Brown previously notched entries with a pair of EPs: Chapter I (No. 9; April 4, 2016) and Closer (No. 40; Oct. 31, 2015).
Assuming Experiment opens at No. 1, it will become the third country set to lead the list in 2018. It would follow Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty (Sept. 29) and Jason Aldean’s Rearview Town (April 28). Experiment was led by the single “Lose It,” which has so far peaked at No. 5 on both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. It climbed 6-5 on the latter tally’s most recently published list (dated Nov. 17).
Experiment’s first-week will benefit from sales of the set generated by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with a string of Brown’s tour dates through March of 2019.
Other albums aiming for likely top 10 debuts on next week’s Billboard 200 including Imagine Dragons’ Origins (with perhaps 80,000 units), Trippie Redd’s A Love Letter To You 3 (75,000) and Lil Peep’s Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2 (65,000). Meanwhile The Beatles’ self-titled former No. 1, often referred to as the White Album, is on track to re-enter the top 10 with perhaps 60,000 units. The set, first released in 1968, was remastered and reissued on Nov. 9 for its 50th anniversary in a variety of formats, including some with a bevy of bonus tracks. The White Album spent nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 between Dec. 28, 1968 and March 1, 1969.

Mariah Carey's 'Glitter' Sales Gain 8,374% in U.S. Thanks to #JusticeForGlitter Campaign News By Keith Caulfield | November 15, 2018 6:38 PM EST
Thanks to a fan-driven social media campaign, Mariah Carey’s Glitter album surged 8,374 percent in U.S. album sales in the six days ending Nov. 14, according to preliminary sales reports to Nielsen Music. In the last six days (Nov. 9-14), the album sold 3,000 copies -- up from a basically negligible figure in the previous six days (Nov. 3-8).
The surge in sales is owed to a fan awareness campaign that started on Nov. 9 with the hashtag #JusticeForGlitter. Through the hashtag’s use on Twitter, fans of Carey -- whose new album Caution arrives at midnight -- have been encouraging people to buy the album, which was released in 2001. The set, which also doubles as the soundtrack to the Carey's film of the same name, debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart and has sold 661,000 copies in the U.S. through Nov. 8.
Notably, it appears Glitter will tally its biggest sales week since 2002. While there is still one day left in the current Nielsen tracking week (ending Nov. 15), the album’s 3,000 copies sold so far would garner its largest sales frame since at least February 2002.
Further, Glitter will likely re-enter Billboard’s Soundtracks chart dated Nov. 24. On the Nov. 17-dated tally -- which runs 25-positions deep -- the No. 25 title, The Little Mermaid, earned a little over 2,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 8. With 3,000 in album sales already in the bank for Glitter in the week ending Nov. 15, Glitter is likely to jump back onto the chart somewhere in the top 15. (Glitter spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Soundtracks chart in 2001.)

Kane Brown Earns First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With 'Experiment' 11/18/2018 by Keith Caulfield
Plus: Imagine Dragons, Trippie Redd and Lil Peep debut in top 10 and the Beatles’ White Album returns to the region. Country singer-songwriter Kane Brown earns his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as his second full-length studio effort, Experiment, bows in the top slot. The set, which was released on Nov. 9 via Zone 4/RCA Nashville, starts with 124,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Nov. 15, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 105,000 were in album sales.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Nov. 24-dated chart (where Experiment starts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Experiment is just the third country album to reach No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart in 2018. It follows Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty (Sept. 29; 266,000 units in its debut frame) and Jason Aldean’s Rearview Town (April 28; 183,000). There were four country leaders in 2017, but they all occurred in the last four months of the year: Luke Bryan’s What Makes You Country (Dec. 30; 108,000), Kenny Chesney’s Live in No Shoes Nation (Nov. 18; 219,000), Shania Twain’s Now (Oct. 21; 137,000) and Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes (Sept. 30; 123,000).
Experiment bows with the fourth-largest week for any country album in 2018, both in terms of overall units and album sales. Ahead of it are the debut frames of Cry Pretty (266,000 units, of which 251,000 were in album sales), Rearview Town (183,000 units, with 162,000 in album sales) and Keith Urban’s Graffiti U (May 12; 145,000 units, with 137,000 in album sales). All four albums received a first-week boost from sales generated by concert ticket/album sale redemption offers.
Experiment follows Brown’s debut self-titled full-length album, released in 2016. The latter peaked at No. 5 on the Oct. 28, 2017-dated tally, after it was reissued with bonus tracks. Brown previously notched entries with a pair of EPs: Chapter I (No. 9; April 4, 2016) and Closer (No. 40; Oct. 31, 2015).
Experiment was led by the single “Lose It,” which has so far peaked at No. 5 on both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. It climbed 6-5 on the most recently published latter list (dated Nov. 17).
At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Imagine Dragons logs its fourth top two-charting effort, as its fourth full-length studio effort Origins enters with 91,000 units (61,000 in album sales). The rock group’s last studio set, Evolve, debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the July 15, 2017-dated list (starting with 146,000 units). The quartet also visited the top two with its two earlier studio sets: Smoke + Mirrors (No. 1; March 7, 2015) and Night Visions (No. 2; Sept. 22, 2012).
The debut parade continues on the Billboard 200, as Trippie Redd’s A Love Letter to You 3 starts, appropriately enough, at No. 3. The set enters with 84,000 units (11,000 in album sales). The hip-hop artist’s album is powered largely by streaming activity, as it collected 72,000 in SEA units (which translates to 108.8 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s tracks in its first week). Love Letter is also the week’s most-streamed album overall.
A Love Letter to You 3 marks the fourth entry on the Billboard 200 for Trippie Redd, following Life’s a Trip (No. 4; Aug. 25), A Love Letter to You 2 (No. 34; Oct. 28, 2017) and A Love Letter to You (No. 64; Jan. 27, 2018).
The late Lil Peep debuts at No. 4 with his first posthumous album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2. The set starts with 81,000 units (43,000 in album sales, bolstered by sales from an array of merchandise/album bundles). The new album is Lil Peep’s first top 10 effort and follows Come Over When You’re Sober, which reached No. 38 (Dec. 9, 2017). The latter set was released on Aug. 15, 2017 but didn’t debut on the chart until Dec. 2, 2017 — after Lil Peep died on Nov. 15, 2017.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s former three-week No. 1 A Star Is Born soundtrack slips from No. 2 to No. 5 with 68,000 units (down 13 percent). The Beatles’ self-titled album, often referred to as the White Album, re-enters the chart at No. 6 following its 50th anniversary reissue on Nov. 9. The set climbs back onto the tally with 63,000 units earned (up 1,499 percent), of which 52,000 were in traditional album sales (up 5,596 percent).
The album, first released in 1968, was remastered and reissued in a variety of formats, including some with a bevy of bonus tracks. The White Album spent nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 between Dec. 28, 1968 and March 1, 1969.
Until this week, it was last higher on the chart on March 29, 1969, when it ranked at No. 5 (the final week in the top 10 of its initial chart run). Rounding out the new top 10 on the Billboard 200: Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack falls 3-7 (54,000 units; down 8 percent), Metro Boomin’s Not All Heroes Wear Capes slides 1-8 in its second week (52,000 units; down 47 percent), Drake’s former five-week leader Scorpion dips 5-9 (43,000 units; down 5 percent) and Travis Scott’s former two-week topper Astroworld descends 8-10 (41,000 units; up 2 percent).

The Beatles' White Album Returns to Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart
News
By Keith Caulfield | November 18, 2018 5:03 PM EST The Beatles
The former No. 1 revisits the top 10 for the first time since 1969, following the album’s 50th anniversary reissue.
The Beatles’ self-titled album, often referred to as the White Album, re-enters the Billboard 200 chart at No. 6 following its 50th anniversary reissue on Nov. 9. The set climbs back onto the tally with 63,000 units earned (up 1,499 percent) in the week ending Nov. 15, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 52,000 were in traditional album sales (up 5,596 percent).
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Nov. 24-dated chart (where the White Album re-enters at No. 6 and Kane Brown's Experiment debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
The White Album, first released in 1968, was remastered and reissued in a variety of formats, including some with a bevy of bonus tracks. The set spent nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 between Dec. 28, 1968 and March 1, 1969. It’s one of the Beatles’ record 19 No. 1 albums on the tally.
Until this week, the White Album was last higher on the chart on March 29, 1969, when it ranked at No. 5 (the final week in the top 10 of its initial chart run).
The White Album includes such Beatles classics as "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Blackbird."
The White Album isn’t the first Beatles album to revisit the top 10 decades after its release. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band also managed the feat, following its 50th anniversary reissue in 2017. The former No. 1 album re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3 on June 17, 2017 — nearly 50 years after it bowed in the top 10 (No. 8, June 24, 1967). The album racked up 15 consecutive weeks at No. 1 between July 1-Oct. 7, 1967. Background Media:

I'm surprised Glitter didn't re-enter considering Kacey's album is nearly 40 spots below it on Album Sales and did re-enter the Billboard 200. I know Glitter isn't available for streaming, but is Kacey's streaming all that good?

Mariah Carey's 'Glitter' Soundtrack Returns to Billboard Charts After #JusticeForGlitter Campaign
11/19/2018 by Keith Caulfield
The set scores its best sales week in 16 years.
Following a fan-created viral campaign, Mariah Carey’s Glitter soundtrack scores its best sales week in over 16 years and returns to a number of Billboard charts.
The set, first released in 2001, re-enters the Soundtracks chart (dated Nov. 24) at No. 14, with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 15 (up 9,016 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Nearly all of that sum was driven by album sales (up 10,805 percent) and almost entirely from digital album sales..
The Soundtracks chart ranks the most popular soundtracks of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Nov. 24-dated chart (where Glitter returns to the list) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Glitter also re-enters the Soundtrack Album Sales chart at No. 4, and debuts on the R&B/Hip-Hop Catalog Albums sales chart at No. 1, the Catalog Album Sales tally at No. 8 and the Digital Albums list at No. 15.
The surge in sales is owed to a fan awareness campaign that started on Nov. 9 with the hashtag #JusticeForGlitter. Through the hashtag’s use on Twitter, fans of Carey have been encouraging people to buy the album, which was released in 2001. The set, which also doubles as the soundtrack to the Carey film of the same name, debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart and has sold 666,000 copies in the U.S. through Nov. 15.
With the rise in sales, Glitter tallies is largest sales week in more than 16 years. It last sold more in the week ending Jan. 27, 2002, when it shifted a handful of copies more (but still rounding to 5,000).

Sorry to ask Gary, no Top Album Sales chart yet? I see the "preview" for it on Billboard Biz (nothing too see except the date and chart name, actually). The chart hasn't been refreshed on the main Billboard site either.

Any chance there is a “Top Cassette Sales” chart? ...Baby One More Time was just reissued on Cassette at Target and I’m curious what sales it has pulled in so far.

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Mariah Carey, Elvis Presley & Bing Crosby Return With 'Christmas' Albums 11/21/2018 by Keith Caulfield
Kevin Mazur/AMA2018/Getty Images Mariah Carey performs at the 2018 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on Oct. 9, 2018 in Los Angeles.
On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Nov. 24), Kane Brown scored his first No. 1 with Experiment. The country singer-songwriter’s album arrived atop the list with 126,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Nov. 15, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 107,000 were in album sales. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:
-- Mariah Carey, Merry Christmas – No. 102 -- The pop powerhouse’s Merry Christmas album -- featuring her enduring hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" -- returns to the chart at No. 102 (9,000 units; up 68 percent) as we march towards the Christmas holiday. The set, like many holiday efforts, revisits the chart each season. Last Christmas season, it reached No. 18 (chart dated Jan. 7, 2018) -- the album’s highest rank since its initial chart run back in 1994 and 1995, when it peaked at No. 3 (Dec. 17, 1994).
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, a number of Christmas albums return to the tally, including: the TV soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas (No. 147 with 6,000 units; up 1,645 percent), Pentatonix’s That’s Christmas To Me (No. 150 with 6,000 units; up 58 percent), Elvis Presley’s The Classic Christmas Album (No. 187 with 6,000 units; up 37 percent) and Bing Crosby’s The Best of Bing Crosby -- 20th Century Masters: The Christmas Collection (No. 199 with 5,000 units; up 48 percent).
-- Josh Groban, Bridges – No. 25 -- The singer’s former top 10 album returns to the list with 7,000 units (up 64 percent), of which 6,000 were in album sales (up 79 percent). The surge in activity is owed to sales generated by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with his current tour. A few steps below Bridges, Groban’s holiday album Noel jingles its way back onto the tally at No. 141 (7,000 units; up 42 percent). Noel spent five weeks atop the chart in 2007 and 2008, and finished 2007 as the top selling album in the U.S.
-- Sarah Brightman, Hymn – No. 50 -- Sarah Brightman is back on the chart for the first time in more than five years, as her new album, Hymn, debuts at No. 50 (13,000 units). The soprano was last on the tally in May of 2013 when Dreamchaser spent two weeks on the list, peaking at No. 17. The new effort also enters at No. 1 on both the Classical Crossover Albums and overall Classical Albums charts (her eighth leader on both tallies). On both charts, she becomes the female artist with the most No. 1s (stepping ahead of Jackie Evancho, with seven).
-- The Piano Guys, Limitless – No. 58 -- The Piano Guys ring up a debut at No. 58 with Limitless (12,000 units) and also start at No. 1 on the New Age Albums chart (11,000 sales). The set is the act’s eighth chart-topper on the New Age list, tying Enya for the fourth-most No. 1s in the chart’s 30-year history. Ahead of them: Jim Brickman (22 No. 1s), Mannheim Steamroller (19) and Yanni (17).
-- Various Artists, Cities 97.1 Sampler: The Final Chapter – No. 80 -- The final edition in the durable charity compilation series from KTCZ Minneapolis (Cities 97) debuts with 10,000 units (all from album sales). The new effort features live recordings, performed in-studio at KTCZ, from acts including Imagine Dragons, A Great Big World, Leon Bridges and Portugal. The Man. Available on CD only in limited quantities (due to publishing company and record label requirements), The Final Chapter was available exclusively via local Minneapolis Target stores and online at Target.com. The set also debuts at No. 1 on the Compilation Albums chart, 12 on Top Rock Albums and No. 6 on Internet Albums. According to KTCZ, the CD series has raised $13 million for Minnesota charities.
-- The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Ladyland – No. 92 -- Following a 50th anniversary deluxe reissue of the set on Nov. 9, the album re-enters the list at No. 92 with 9,000 units (up 2,143 percent). Of that sum, 8,000 were in album sales (up 2,722 percent). The chart-topping album was reissued with a variety of bonus content in multiple configurations. (All versions of the album, past and present, have been merged together for tracking purposes.)
-- Kacey Musgraves, Golden Hour – No. 195 -- The Country Music Association (CMA) Award-winner for album of the year jumps back onto the list with 6,000 units (up 117 percent). The set sold 3,000 copies in the tracking week (up 287 percent). The album took home the CMA Award on Nov. 14 during ABC-TV’s live broadcast of the CMA Awards.
